Brand Name KFC Agency Name Blink Solution Introduction With the age of internet revolution prevailing in the Indian market and the Indian youth becoming more net-savvy, famous global restaurant chain brands like KFC have been increasing their presence on social media platforms. In India,KFC is the number one restaurant brand on social media. Objective The objective of the entire social media campaign that revolved around apps like the Radio KFC RJ Hunt, Design your own bucket campaign, Currycature and Wow Menu option, is to appeal to and target young audience who are their target groups and also to develop brand engagement with this segment. Ultimately the objective was to increase the sale of KFC products in India. Execution Radio KFC RJ Hunt was basically a campaign to promote KFC along with KFC in -- house radio channel. 3000 people from around 30 Indian cities participated in the competition. With the Facebook app, fans recorded their voices over the internet and were provided analog radio experience. Design Your Own Bucket was another fabulous campaign where the participants had to come up with creative and colorful KFC buckets. It received 5500 entries. Not only that, KFC also leveraged the occasion when cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar retired. They also conducted bucket entries with Sachin's picture on the KFC bucket on the day he retired. Cuurycature was another creative campaign where participants could choose either male or female characters which were wacky, have an ethnic Indian touch to them and then upload their pictures. The next was the Wow Menu Option on a INR 500 note. This app allowed users to scan currency notes of 500 denomination which would then suggest various food menus that could be purchased within this budget. Results KFC was featured among the top 5 socially devoted brands by Social Baker; post sentiment grew to 93%. Engagement rate became 3 times the industry average. Placed among the top 5 fastest growing social media brands in the country.

The worst and biggest social media fails by companies! These are the most cringeworthy brand mistakes and corporate advertising blunders to blow up online. From skin-tone swapping soap ads to women’s tortilla chips, today we look at 8 of the BIGGEST Social Media Fails By Companies. #8 Adidas Boston Survival Time heals all wounds, but in the case of the 2017 Boston Marathon, it hadn’t been nearly long enough for the phrasing Adidas used in a post-race email. Sent from Adidas to participants after the 121st annual race, the email read “Congrats, you survived the Boston Marathon!” Though seemingly innocuous out of context, this message came only 4 years after the tragic events that left more than 260 people injured. This use of “survived” would immediately spark an online uproar as recipients began posting screenshots of the email title across Twitter. A spokesman for Adidas would go on to tell TIME magazine, “We are incredibly sorry. Clearly, there was no thought given to the insensitive email subject line(...).” Adidas apologized for the mistake, recognizing the Boston Marathon as “one of the most inspirational” events across the globe and a beacon of “hope and resiliency.” In the long run, this gaffe wouldn’t harm Adidas’ relationship with the event as they continue to be one of the top four sponsors of the Boston Marathon. #7 United Airlines in 2017 When it comes to corporate advertising on social media, there’s a chance that one poor choice will have repercussions as limited as an hour of public backlash. Or it can go the exact opposite direction as it did for United Airlines in 2017. On April 9, aboard a flight chartered from Chicago to Louisville, Kentucky, the airline surprised passengers with the announcement that some customers would need to catch a later flight...to make room for more United employees. The flight was overbooked and no volunteers presented themselves, so the crew decided to attempt selecting which customers would need to find a later flight on their own. Upon learning of this decision, 69-year-old Elizabethtown resident Dr. David Dao refused to give up his seat. In response, the flight crew called law enforcement to forcibly remove the passenger, an occurrence that has since gone viral via Facebook and other platforms. The video itself features a graphic struggle as two to three security officers in blue jeans yank and drag the elderly doctor out of his seat and along the aisle of the plane, in open view of the rest of the cabin. While it is important to note that the security officers here worked for the Chicago Department of Aviation, this scene of helplessness and apparent victimization would begin a year of issues for United Airlines. From then on, what may normally have been a slight shower of customer complaints turned into a torrential downpour as new tales of terrible service became more ostentatious and article-worthy. Everything from being stung by a scorpion to the tragic loss of pets, from destroying wheelchairs to stealing $1000-seats from toddlers, the stories revolving around flying with United have become less like a Yelp review and more fitting to tell around the campfire. Despite these issues, though, United Airlines continues to survive with a relatively quiet year in 2018.

Explore the pros and cons of the different tactics you can use to develop a sustainable awareness-building program for your brand. VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: With over a trillion pages indexed by Google the odds of your site getting found by the right prospect are astronomically stacked against you. If you’d like to increase those odds, stay tuned because today we’re going to explore the pros and cons of the different tactics you can use to get your brand found online. My objective is to help you achieve a more balanced approach so that you can develop a sustainable awareness-building program for your brand. Why it matters Imagine your perfect prospect sitting at home in front of her computer. She’s never heard of your brand. How is she going to find your website, how is she going to find your online store, your blog, your social media sites, or the online contest you’re hosting? Of course, if you knew who she was you could find her through outreach activities on social media or with email. But right now let’s focus on the inbound challenge of being found by prospects online. I don’t think any online marketer needs to be convinced of the importance of building and maintaining awareness for their brand. But optimizing your web pages and waiting for Google to deliver prospects is only part of the answer. There is a lot more you could do to build brand awareness. But with so many ways to be found online the question becomes which one is best for your brand? Well, I’ve got good news on two counts. First, you don’t need to choose and second there are actually only three ways that prospects can find you online anyhow. I’d like to look at the pros and cons of each to help you build a more effective and sustainable online awareness program for your brand. What it is The first way for prospects to find you online is through paid promotion. This means paying someone money to access their audience. Adwords is the most popular form of online paid promotion. With Adwords you pay Google to gain access to the 1.2 billion people who use their search engine each month. But there are many variations on this theme such as Facebook ads, LinkedIn post promotion, banner ads and native content. In all cases you’re paying a gatekeeper to gain access to a third party’s proprietary audience. In the case of paid search, the key concepts are clickthrough rate and conversion rate. Clickthrough rate refers to the percentage of people who click on your link when it is served up in their search results. The average clickthrough rate for paid search is about 3 and a half percent. So for every 10 thousand people who are shown your link you can expect 350 visitors to your site. Conversion rate refers to the percentage of those visitors who perform the desired action, that usually means buying something. The average conversion rate for paid search is around 5 percent. So from your 350 visitors you could expect to get 18 purchases. How much Google charges per click depends on how many other people want to advertise with that word. So although the average cost per click is about 40 cents, words that are highly sought after can cost over forty dollars per click. Which means your 18 buyers could cost you anywhere from 140 to 14,000 dollars or between 8 and 8,000 dollars per sale. The biggest upside of paid promotion is that you get immediate results. And over time these results can become predictable. So you can calculate the anticipated return on your investment with regard to traffic and conversions with a fair degree of accuracy. Since everything about this investment is measurable it’s easy to show cause & effect and to explain the investment to superiors. Pay-per-click scheme also comes with a potent feel-good factor because in theory you only pay for results. On the down side, the public trust factor in this type of exposure is low since it’s essentially the brand recommending itself, so visitors arriving through paid links may be more skeptical. Paid promotion can also be expensive if it’s your sole means of driving traffic and conversion. Especially as competition for your desired keyword increases. Budget allocated to paid promotion often displaces investment in developing the brand’s website in ways that would attract organic awareness and traffic. And as the website becomes less able to attract visitors on its own, brands can find themselves completely dependent on paid promotion to maintain their sales...
