CSS Tutorial For Beginners 35 - Paragraph Spacing

03:47
Yo ninjas! In this CSS tutorial for beginners I'll walk you through how to space out paragraph tags on a page using the margin property. Consider this a gentle introduction into the box model in CSS. In the next lesson we'll learn even more about margins and the box model property. When applying spacing between paragraph tags, it's normally best just to apply a margin to either the bottom or the top of the tag. I opt for bottom, but this is your choice. Anyway, peace out, have fun and keep coding :). CSS - Upgrading HTML Tags with Style: Creating a Website Made Easy

20:00
Lesson on Upgrading HTML Tags to CSS Style from Udemy online course: Creating a Website Made Easy Full course description and 25% discount coupon: http://tharsishighlands.com/online-courses/creating-a-website-made-easy/ Transcript: In this lesson, we will take many of the basic HTML tags and use them as CSS element selectors to upgrade their style. In CSS, the HTML tags are called "elements." BODY First, we start with the [body] tag element (YouTube does not allow angle brackets in description). When you first set up your main CSS file, you typically want to establish the basics for your entire page. These can include, • background-color • background-image • default font-size, color and font-family All of these can be handled in the body element. For example, body { background-color: linen; background-image: url("pix/tree.jpg"); font-family: Vera, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; color: #24425C; } SELECTORS We've already seen a little about CSS syntax. For example, h1 { color: blue; } Each CSS style starts with a selector and is followed by one or more declarations within open and close braces — each declaration being a property-value pair: { property: value } Element selectors select all HTML tags of the same name. For instance, for the [p] tag, p { text-align: center; color: red; } [p]All paragraphs with only the p tag are centered and red. This is a demonstration of how the element selector works.[/p] The ID selector uses the ID attribute of an HTML element to select that specific element. ID is a unique identifier. On any one page, there can be only one of that ID. Also, the ID name cannot start with a numeral. For example, #first_heading { color: red; } [h1 id="first_heading"]This is the First Heading on the Page[/h1] The class selector selects all elements with a specific class attribute. .quote { border-style: solid; border-width: 1px; border-color: #880000; padding: 5px; font-size: 18px; font-style: italic; } Here, we see a class called "quote" which uses larger type, italics and a dark red border. Next, is the HTML which uses that class. [p class="quote"]"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."[/p] A class can be restricted to only one element type. For example, p.first { text-indent: 0px; } This can be helpful if all other paragraphs are given an indent. The first paragraph after a heading can be made flush left. We can also use more than one class at a time. For example, [p class="first quote"]"Houston, we have a problem..."[/p] We've already seen how selectors which share property values can be grouped. h1, h2, h3 { color: steelblue; } In the earlier lesson on the Head section, we learned how to link to an external style sheet — a file with sets of selectors and declarations. For internal CSS, you have the same selector-declaration combinations, but set within open and close [style] tags. [head] [style] body { background-color: darkslateblue; } [/style] [/head] And for inline CSS, you have the same selector-declaration combinations within a style attribute. [p style="text-indent: 50px; color: steelblue;"]This is important text.[/p] Multiple Styles Cascade into One CSS statements have a sequence of priority. The lowest priority of style is the browser defaults. Next are the external and internal style sheets in the head section. Sequence matters, so if you link to your external style sheet after the internal style declarations, the external CSS takes priority over the internal. Finally, the inline style declarations take the highest priority. For all style information that uses the same selectors, the highest priority replaces the lower priorities. For example, External: p { color: blue; text-indent: 30px; } Internal: p { color: green; } Inline: p { color: red; } The final style is: p { color: red; text-indent: 30px; } Background: The following properties control the background of HTML elements. • background-color • background-image • background-repeat • background-attachment • background-position Example: body { background-color: blue; } As we've already learned, colors can be specified, • As Hex — like "#00ffff" • As RGB — like "rgb(0,255,255)" • By name — like "aqua" We will learn more about colors and the new CSS3 color specification in a later lesson. Background Image: The default behavior of a background image is to repeat the image both vertically and horizontally in order to fill the entire background of the element with the selected picture. body { background-image: url("pix/sandbaked.gif"); } [...] In the next lesson, we talk about fonts, tables and links. CSS video tutorial - 6 - Embedded styles | style tag

11:30
Embedded Style: Styles that are placed within the style tag are called embedded styles. We use style tag to place embedded styles. Declaration block: is used to group declarations separated by semicolon in one block, so that more than one styles can applied on a selected element or more than one selected elements. { color:white; // declaration of style rule 1 background-color:black; // declaration of style rule 2 font-size:24pt; // declaration of style rule 3 } Selector: is a string used to select an element or more than one elements to which we want to apply group of style rules. selector { color:whte; background-color:black; font-size:24pt; } p { color:whte; background-color:black; font-size:24pt; } Types of selectors: tag selector, class selector, id selector, and contextual selector. Note: Embedded styles are placed within style tag and style tag should be placed within head tag. Limitations of Embedded Style: If we have many web pages with common styles, then we have to copy paste all embedded declaration blocks to every other web page. That increases the web site size. Increase in code size. Code Redundancy. No maintainability. Time consuming. To overcome this limitation we use external style. ======================================================== Follow the link for next video: https://youtu.be/zCry11BLxAk Follow the link for previous video: https://youtu.be/Kx6nBZuD0tg ========= For more benefits & Be up to date =================== Subscribe to "chidres tech tutorials" channel: it's free Visit to Chidre's Tech Tutorials website: https://www.chidrestechtutorials.com Like the Facebook fan page: https://www.facebook.com/ManjunathChidre ======================================================== ========== CSS Questions & Answers ======================== 1. HTML Paragraph Tag Tutorial / CSS Paragraph Styling

00:44
"The HTML And CSS Bootcamp" HTML stands for "Hypertext Markup Language". A standardized system for tagging text files to achieve font, color, graphic, and hyperlink effects on World Wide Web pages. The HTML "p" tag defines a paragraph or represents a paragraph of text . Paragraphs are block-level elements & are usually represented in visual media as blocks of text that are separated from adjacent blocks by vertical blank space and/or first-line indentation. HTML video tutorial - 82 - html span tag vs div tag

14:36
HTML div tag vs HTML span tag: div tag is a paired tag span tag is a paired tag div tag is a block level tag span tag is a inline level tag Inline tags should exist in context with block level tags. In modern html every html element should be meaningful. h1 indicates heading, p indicates paragraph, b indicates bold etc. we supposed to use right element for right purpose. When there is no meaningful tag present for what we want to achieve then we use div tag. For example there is no tag used to create divisions in the page hence we use div tag. span tag is used to enclose inline contents like text images etc. ======================================================== Follow the link for next video: https://youtu.be/hL93pLKLSLs Follow the link for previous video: https://youtu.be/YwJgtVjG2pg ========= For more benefits & Be up to date =================== Subscribe to "chidres tech tutorials" channel: it's free Visit to Chidre's Tech Tutorials website: https://www.chidrestechtutorials.com Like the Facebook fan page: https://www.facebook.com/ManjunathChidre ======================================================== ========== HTML Questions & Answers ====================== ========================================================

Dreamweaver Tutorial 4: Tag, Class, and ID Selectors in CSS

07:00
In this tutorial I describe the difference between tag selectors, class selectors, and ID selectors in CSS. Using an HTML example in Dreamweaver, I show how CSS style selectors of different types can be used and when they should be used. A tag selector is used to change all instances of a particular tag, such as all p tags. Class selectors allow you to change some, but not all instances of a tag. An ID selector is used for unique elements and should only be used on one tag in the entire HTML document. Examples of using each type of selector is given. The syntax of each type of selector is described. For tag selectors the name of the tag is used to represent the CSS rule. For class selectors a period is used followed by a name. For ID selectors a pound sign is used followed by a name. HTML tags automatically apply to the HTML document. However, class and ID selectors must be applied to individual HTML tags in order for the styles to apply.

CSS Tutorial — 3 ways to write CSS in an HTML page (2/13)

06:11
CSS Tutorial — 3 ways to write CSS in an HTML page (2/13) Before we write any CSS I want you to know... all browsers already have a bunch of CSS in them. The reason why H1 is bigger than P without you writing any CSS, is because the browser comes with a set of default styles. You can see these in Chrome if you just inspect element say on an H1 (so right click, inspect element) and go down to the styles tab. Here they are. I’ll tell you what they mean soon. They might be slightly different from browser to browser. But they do exist. So now that we know that, it’s time for us to write our own styles. There are 3 ways to change the styles of your page. First one is Inline styles. This means within HTML, using an attribute directly added to your elements. I tell you why that’s a terrible idea here. But here’s an example just so you know how it’s done. I take this header tag and I’ll add a style attribute, then I’ll say color is blue. Done. You can see it change but this is bad. Don’t do this. The second way is through actual CSS. Which is a much better idea. You can write your CSS inside a STYLE tag, usually in the HEAD. Whatever you put inside a STYLE tag the browser will treat as CSS. Here’s a basic CSS formula. About 90% of your CSS statements look like this: Selector… {... }... style property… : …. style value…. Sina, what…. the fuck…. Are you talking about? Alright Let me explain. A selector is what part of your HTML you want to style? Which elements. You have the select them first. And we’ll talk about selectors a lot in the next video. There’s all kinds. So for now let’s say a P selector. This will style all your paragraphs with the following styles. Style property is things like Color, Font-size, Background, Border, that kinda thing. So let’s say color which will change the color of the text. COLON. This is almost like the = sign, Style value, for example, red. This is it. You just turned all your paragraphs red. So let’s recap: Select all my p tags, change their COLOR, to RED. That’s it. You can replace any of these three to whatever you want (As long as it makes sense, you can’t say color should be small, or font-size, blue. It has to make sense). So for example: you can instead target all H1s. Or instead of COLOR you can change the BACKGROUND COLOR, and instead of RED, change it to GREEN. So then... it becomes a game of how these 3 things play together and choosing the right combinations. Writing styles in a style tag is alright I guess... but there’s an even better way. Which is to create a separate CSS file dedicated to your styles, and load it into your HTML using a LINK tag. This isn’t a LINK that the user can click on or anything like that, so don’t be tricked by the name. It just means we are linking the HTML to the CSS file. So let’s create a CSS file and move our styles there. DEMO 1 - This is the way we’re gonna do it from now on, because it separates the template (the HTML), from the styles (the CSS). This way things are clean and clear, and you know exactly where to look to find things. And you’ll have 2 small files instead 1 big one, which is hard to navigate, as your site grows. You can also mess around in Chrome Dev tools and manipulate your styles at run-time. Here’s what I mean by that... DEMO 2 - So next we’re gonna look at Selectors and what different types there are. K? BAAAAA

CSS Tutorial — Selectors, Element, Class and ID (3/13)

06:35
CSS Tutorial — Selectors, Element, Class and ID (3/13) So we just looked at a basic CSS statement and it starts with a selector. So what the hell are selectors, again? Say you are brangelina, and you have a bunch of kids, you wanna dress them for school except only one of them is old enough for school. So first you have to pick the right kid, then dress/style them. That’s what selectors are. Choose which kid you wanna prepare for school. Or since you’re not brangelina, Choose which element you wanna style. It all starts with the selector. There are different kinds of selectors. In our example, we used what’s called an element selector because it targets your styles based on the element type, That’s the most basic selector there is. By using the element type. Like a p tag. Cool? Cool. The problem with element selectors is that you might not want to turn ALL your paragraphs blue. What if you had 3 paragraphs and you only want one of them to be blue? The element type is an identifier but in this case it’s too general. I wanna show you an example. Look at this thing on atom’s website. See these two sections? One of them has a white background, the other one is beige. If you inspect it you’ll see they’re both divs, here they are, so clearly the dudes who made this couldn’t have said oh select all divs and change the background to white or beige. They needed to be more specific. You can select elements based on other kinds of identifiers. Classes and ID. Class is the most common and useful one, in fact that’s exactly what Atom is using. Take a look. They have wrapper class on one, and highlight on the other. If you click on highlight, you’ll see that class has a beige background on it. So let’s do one ourselves. Let’s say you have 4 paragraphs and you want to alternate between dark and light. So dark, light, dark, light. In other words you wanna reuse a style for multiple elements. In this case you can use a CLASS selector. The way you write these in CSS is you write the name of your class, this could be whatever you want, just can’t have spaces and some special characters, say DARK, and you put a DOT in front of it. Why a DOT? Well, I dunno what to tell you. There’s no good explanation why, that at least I know about. It’s just syntax that you have to remember. This tells the browser hey this is a CLASS selector. Then of course you have to add the class to your element in HTML. This means “hey select all the elements that have a class attribute and the value is dark. Let’s try it: DEMO 4 - I’m gonna cover ID selectors too just for the sake of it although we don’t use them much. ID attributes are specific to one element only. If you have a style that you want to apply to only one element, for some reason, you can add an ID to that element (for example: my-blue-paragraph), then use an ID selector in CSS to style it. ID selectors are just like CLASS selectors, except you put a # in front of the name instead of the DOT. That becomes the CSS selector for the element with that ID. So let’s try it. DEMO 3 - The problem with ID is that it’s limited to only 1 element. Remember IDs can’t be shared between elements. So you can’t reuse my-blue-paragraph ID for multiple elements. So those are the 3 basic selectors. Element, Class and ID. “Element” to style the elements of that type. ID to target only one specific element. And Class to reuse for multiple elements. We’ll be using all of them from now on. Selectors can get much much more complicated and they will, but now you know the basics. So next, we’re gonna look at some of our options when it comes to style properties, like color, so far that’s all we’ve used so I’m gonna talk about it in detail. Later, fonts, sizes, background, border, animations, display types, flexbox, where’d everyone go? I was talking.

4 Places To Edit WordPress CSS | WP Learning Lab

08:08
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL 4 Places To Edit WordPress CSS | WP Learning Lab To edit WordPress CSS you first need to know all the places you can find CSS. There are 4 common places. You may not have all these locations on your website because some of them are theme-dependent. The possible CSS locations are: 1. The WordPress theme or child theme stylesheet (this one you have for sure) 2. The theme options panel (this one you may or may not have) 3. A CSS editor on each page and post (this one you may or may not have) 4. Inline CSS applied directly to HTML elements on the page (this one you will have only if you're written it) Let's go through each one. The WordPress theme or child theme stylesheet When inside your WordPress dashboard if you click on Appearance then Editor you will be able to edit theme or child theme files. Usually the style.css is loaded first by default. If it's not loaded find the style.css file in the list of files on the right side of the editor page. When you find it, click on it. That will open the CSS file in WordPress editor. At this point you can make edits to the file and click on the Update button to save your changes. How to actually code CSS is beyond the scope of this tutorial, but you can check out my CSS channel over here (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeFLITjl2v9vtIkftw9UMsw) The danger in editing CSS directly in the stylesheet of the main theme is that what you create may be over written when the theme updates. You get around this problem by creating a child theme (see a tutorial on how to create a WordPress child theme here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8n1h-85SMQ). The theme options panel Not every theme has a theme options panel, but the ones that do make WordPress CSS so much easier to edit. You can simply add CSS to the CSS box in the theme options and click save changes. The upside is that theme updates won't erase the CSS code you create. A CSS editor on each page and post Some themes, like Avada and Divi, give you the option of insert CSS code right into the individual posts and pages of your website. This is great for CSS that you want to be only one page. I would only recommend doing this if you're putting more than 100 lines of CSS into the page. If it's less than 100 lines of CSS you're better to put into the main stylesheet so you stay organized. If it's more than 100 lines of CSS code that only need to exist on one page then your site will load a little bit faster overall by not loading all that CSS into every page. Inline CSS The last place in our list and the last place you'd want to create CSS code is right in your HTML elements. This is called inline CSS and can be difficult to work with for two big reasons. First, you can't apply the CSS to more than one element at a time. So if you want to style all the paragraphs on the page in the same way you have to apply the same CSS code over and over again to each p tag. This is a pain to administer and will result in larger than needed page sizes. Second, if you add inline CSS to lots of pages it will be come difficult to remember what CSS you applied where. Then trying to find it an make edits will become a pain. Inline CSS also takes precedent over CSS in the stylesheet. So you might be make changes to CSS in the stylesheet, but nothing is happening on the page. You'll go through a frustrating few minutes before you figure out the CSS is actually inline on the page. CSS Tutorial — Relative Sizes, Percentage % (7/13)

02:35
CSS Tutorial — Relative Sizes, Percentage % (7/13) Relative size is huge. The first one I wanna show you is percentage. AAAAAA this is a good one. You can say width: 50%. That’s legit CSS. But wait, 50% of what? Good question... Say we have P tag. I’ll give it a red background so we can see where it starts and where it ends. You should do that too. P tags by default are block level elements, I explain more here. so they take up the whole row. Their width is 100% of their parent. So by default it’s kinda like the P tag has an invisible rule on it that says width: 100%. They kinda just adjust to their containing parent element. Now what if I change the width to 50%; What if I add that to my CSS? BOOM. Look at that. Now it’s half the size. Wait, again, half the size of what? In this case the containing parent of our P tag is the body, I’ll add a green border to body so you can see. when I resize the window the body is getting smaller & bigger, but the width value that we gave our P tag stays 50%, relative to the body. Because it’s its parent. So when I resize the window, my P tag will automatically resize itself to be 50% whatever the body is. This is a technique used in responsive web design. It’s extremely useful. It’s not the end all be all, there are times where you don’t want a relative value, but if I used absolute values for width and height, my element might look great on one screen, but be completely unusable in a smaller device. So it’s safe to say relative values are mostly used to support different screen sizes. I don’t want you to worry about responsive web yet, it’s a whole course in and of itself, and I promise we’ll get there. There are other very important relative units I wanna show you, EM and REM, they are absolutely essential in sizing your text, something I brought up already. And that’s coming up next. Let’s go get it.

HTML CSS JQuery Media Query Mobile First Project Review

03:45
My blog article and source files: http://bit.ly/1h6irYA Audience: Those who are new to CSS Cascading Style Sheets for mobile development. This is second video in a series to build a framework for CSS Cascading Style Sheets following the mobile first responsive web design approach. This video shows reviews the project file used in the video. The file contains the base CSS Cascading Style Sheets for all the responsive design views. Mobile first designs target all mobile device by using screen widths. This is the base screen Cascading Style Sheet discussed. Progressive media queries are later used to detect wider device screen widths, overrides the CSS Cascading Style Sheet shown in the base project file. At then end of the series you have a template to target smartphones, mobile tables like the iPad, and laptops and desktops. Let's take a look at the starting project file for this video series so you are more comfortable with the HTML and CSS that's already in place. Here is our starting practice file opened up in Firefox. And we also have the Firebug plugin opened. We will use the Firebug just to get a quick familiarity with the actual HTML that we have setup. So first let's take a look at that down here in the HTML panel you can see it's a very simple structure we have an html5 header tag. We have a section tag both siblings of each other. The header tag has an h1 tag in it. And the section tag has an h2 to tag and two p tags in it. There isn't too much to that. If we use Firebug we can actually highlight over these and you can see them up here in the browser window as they're being selected. And we can also see the layout over on the right hand side. And if you look at the layout panel you'll notice that each of the tag elements that are in our document are set up for a position property of static. So that means they just flow one after another down the page as you might expect in a normal flow layout. The CSS is that the document level so we can take that tag in open up there's the style tag with the CSS. Or we can view it over here in the CSS panel for Firebug. There's nothing too surprising in the CSS for this document. We will notice that first the header and section elements are being set so they recognized for legacy browsers. Then we're using the universal selector to set color margin and padding for all the other elements. The body has a background in a family for the fonts. The header section we are targeting inside the header element the h1 for its properties such as background font size height padding and line with. And then the other major part of the documents is the section element and it has internally an h2 and a p tag and we are also targeting those. These are our base CSS selectors styles and properties. And they will apply into all different types of views including a iPhone view or a Samsung Galaxy view or an iPad or any tablet view or even as you see them right here on our web browser which is a rather wide width web browser in a very large monitor. So what we'll do is we'll modify these properties and selectors based on detecting the width of the screen using CSS media queries. And we'll do that so that are view looks more appropriate for that particular width. But first we'll start by understanding how the default mobile device width and scaling is controlled. You may have noticed web pages on your smartphone too tiny to read and requiring horizontal scrollingvto view them. We can then then start detecting device widths using CSS media queries.

How to Apply CSS

02:02
Follow this step by step guide to learn the basic technique of creating a styling sheet in web page and applying it on different parts of it. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ CSS or Cascading Style Sheets is text file in a ".css" format which contains pre-defined style and formatting of HTML pages. It consists of Fonts name, their styles, colors, spaces, and other useful attributes. When calling a Style sheet in a source code of a webpage, it simply applies its pre-defined style on the Web page while displaying on the browser. There are other methods as well for applying css styling on a web page. You can also write a styling code in an html page instead of creating it separately. Here we will show you how to apply css by creating it within a source code of a HTML page. Step # 1 -- Insert a Paragraph tag In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to apply css on a HTML page. First of all, open up the source code of your HTML page in a Text Editor. Now insert a New Paragraph by enclosing the text in "P" and "/P" tags. Once done, save your changes and refresh the browser to view the newly added paragraph on the page. Step # 2 -- Insert the Style Tag Now in the next step, move over to the "Head" tag and insert the "Style" tag in it by entering the code as style p {line-height: 2;} /style Once done, save your changes and again refresh the browser and you will see that now the selected paragraph is having more line space. Step # 3 -- Create a Class in HTML page Now in this step, create a HTML Class by typing the code as p.first: first-line {font-variant: small-caps;} Once you have entered the code, save again and refresh the browser. Here you will see that there will be no change on the formatting of the page. This is because after creating a class, we need to call it on certain objects to apply its effect on them. Step # 4 -- Call the Class on a Paragraph For applying it in the CSS, go back to the source file, move over the paragraph tag and insert the code as Class= "first" Where "Class" code is used to call the class property while "First" is the name of the class which you want call on your paragraph. Once you save your changes and refresh the browser, you will see that the first line of the paragraph is now converted into all capitals as defined in the class. In this manner, you can easily be applying css on your own webpage.

I have found a way to create a wrapper AP div tag to encase all of your other div tags. Then you will center the main wrapper and everything within the wrapper will also be centered. This also has an advantage over a normal div tag that is coded with css in that ap div tags can be arranged in layers just like in photoshop. You can also drag and move around these AP div tags instead of having to give exact numbered locations through css like you would a normal div tag.
