Last Air Display - Sea Vixen 'Foxy Lady', XP924 G-CVIX - Duxford Air Festival 2017

06:09
The Fly Navy Heritage Trust's de Havilland DH110 Sea Vixen, XP924, G-CVIX, 'Foxy Lady', is seen here displaying for what sadly may have been the last ever time, during the Imperial War Museum (IWM) Duxford Air Festival 2017, immediately before her unfortunate 'wheels-up' landing following her return to base at RNAS Yeovilton . This was her first public display appearance of 2017. Sadly the aircraft suffered a hydraulic failure on its return to RNAS Yeovilton following this display. This led to the undercarriage failing to deploy. The brave pilot, Commander Simon Hargreaves, elected to complete a controlled wheels up 'belly landing' on the hard runway in order to preserve the aircraft and to prevent potential loss of life and damage on the ground. He remained with the aircraft at risk to himself, rather than abandoning it using the fitted ejection seat. The aircraft was skilfully landed on its wing tanks and belly. Fortunately Commander Hargreaves was unharmed and damage to the aircraft was minimised. Following the emergency landing of Sea Vixen G-CVIX XP924 at RNAS Yeovilton on 27 May 17, Navy Wings is urgently seeking a ‘white knight’ sponsor to save the aircraft and restore this unique and nationally important naval heritage fighter to full flying condition. Unfortunately the structural damage to the airframe is more serious than first thought. This includes cracks on both tail booms, warping of the main bulk heads in the engine compartment and major damage to the gear box. The important factor here was speed of landing. The Sea Vixen suffered a major hydraulic failure of both systems and the pilot, Commander Simon Hargreaves was unable to lower the flaps along with the under-carriage. This necessitated a high speed, low angle run on and the energy transferred itself through the airframe. Work by Assessors estimate that it could take between 3-4 years and cost £2-3M to get her flying again. A white knight is needed in the next month who would be prepared to come to the rescue and under-write these costs and save the last flying Sea Vixen in the world, recognising her uniqueness and value to the Nation’s naval aviation heritage. Sea Vixen " XP924 " at Eastbourne Airshow 2016.

02:26
It was one of those days for the Sea Vixen and pilot Simon Hargreaves. His display at Herne bay was cancelled at short notice due to the incident with the prop plane crash landing into the sea and flipping over. Then upon arrival to Eastbourne, the pilot detected a flap was stuck down. He had it visually checked by the Eastbourne display director, so we got a couple of nice flypasts, but as a precaution the pilot decided to return to RNAS Yeovilton where he landed uneventfully. Can anyone spot anything unusual in the video?

De Havilland Sea Vixen - Shoreham Airshow 2013

05:25
De Havilland Sea Vixen 'Foxy Lady', G-CVIX, still wearing her last military colours as XP924 of 899 Squadron, Fleet Air Arm, displaying at Shoreham Airshow 2011. XP924 was one of the last Sea Vixens in service. This particular aircraft entered service in 1964 as a FAW.2, seeing active service exclusively with 899 Squadron on HMS Eagle and at Yeovilton. In 1973 the Vixen went to Llanbedr to serve as a high-speed radar target with the Royal Aircraft Establishment. XP924 was subsequently converted by Flight Refuelling to D3 drone status and served further at Llanbedr in this capacity from 1986 to 1991 when it was finally withdrawn from service. This aircraft is unique in terms of being not only the sole example of its type capable of flying, but being the sole representative of its generation of fighters likely to fly in the UK. The Vixen is the fastest ex-military jet in private ownership, and is capable of Mach 1.2. http://www.dehavillandaviation.co.uk/Projects/seavixen.htm Video and Audio content is Copyright © 2013 Stephen Keeler This video and audio material may not be reproduced in any form (except as the videos Youtube embedded video option on any other website), without written permission.

De Havilland Sea Vixen Royal Navy fast jet fighter. This video of Sea Vixen, G-CVIX (XP924) in the sponsor colours of Red Bull, was filmed in 2003 and 2004. A dynamic aerobatic display of a classic British designed fighter aircraft. The twin-boom de Havilland tail design was previously used on their Vampire and Venom 1950s jet fighters. Today this Sea Vixen flies in original Royal Navy markings. The de Havilland DH.110 Sea Vixen was a two seat, twin Rolls Royce Avon engined, carrier-borne jet fighter used by the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy in the 1960s. It was retired from Royal Navy service in 1972.

de Havilland Sea Vixen RC Model Plan

00:30
https://www.sarikhobbies.com/product/dh110-sea-vixen-50/ Order Code: MW3659 - Plan - Parts - Wood-pack https://www.sarikhobbies.com/product/dh110-sea-vixen-50/ Designed by Phil Noel, this RC model plan contains full details of how to build an impressive electric ducted-fan powered model of de Havilland's supersonic carrier-based interceptor, the Sea Vixen. The design uses balsa, ply and spruce construction. Retracting undercarriage can be fitted (Spring Air 600 units or similar), and the outer wing panels are plug-in for ease of transport. The completed model has a wingspan of 50" (1270mm) and is powered by twin 70 mm fan units. The de Havilland Sea Vixen was designed as a fighter/interceptor for the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, however the RAF eventually chose the Gloster Javelin for the role, leaving the Sea Vixen to enter carrier-borne service with the Fleet Air Arm in 1959. Such was the trust placed in the new air-to-air missiles then being introduced that provision for cannons was removed, and the Sea Vixen was armed with Red Top or Firestreak missiles. It could also carry out ground attack missions using rockets and bombs, as well as photo reconnaissance. The pilot sat in a fighter-style cockpit off-set to the left of the centre-line of the aircraft, with his observer sitting below and to his right in the unpopular 'coal hole' compartment. The Sea Vixen was a powerful and effective aircraft, but operating big, heavy jet aircraft from aircraft carriers is inherently hazardous. Sadly 51 Sea Vixen aircrew lost their lives in accidents - a reminder that though the Cold War had no battles, it had many casualties. The Sea Vixen was eventually replaced by the McDonnell Douglas Phantom in 1972. The model is of all-wood construction, but a moulded cockpit canopy is available. A laser-cut wood-pack is available that contains most of the shaped wood parts needed such as fuselage formers and wing ribs. This saves a great deal of time in the build and ensures accuracy, but you will need to buy additional sheet and strip wood to complete the model, as well as all the hardware needed. The start of an awesome day down at Old Warden. I enjoyed the season Premiere but this was outstanding. So many great displays in the air and on the ground and other organisers are going to have to work hard to beat this show. For a start we get a classic jet doing it's flat display. The only display the CAA permit for classic Jet's at the moment but it was fantastic to see the Sea Vixen again. We got a bonus of seeing her with the Sea Hurricane. After a tough year for the Heritage trust last year it's great to see them out in force at this show. The Vixen was just one of them. I was too busy watching it to film a lot of it but at Cosford i'll get it some more if I do get to go to that event. I haven't seen her since her Red Bull days so this was so exciting to see. Those Rolls Royce Avon 208's sounds lovely too. Enjoy!
