JMX: Much More Than Just Application Monitoring

55:43
You have probably heard of Java Management Extensions (JMX) as the enabling technology behind JVM profiling tools such as JConsole and VisualVM that are part of JDK 6 and later. But did you know that using JMX, part of the Java SE platform, is a lightweight way to manage any resource (such as hardware, networks, storage, operating systems, middleware, and applications)? In this session, you will learn about • The JMX architecture • Managing a resource in JMX, with a code example • JMX notifications • JMX connectors (RMI for remote clients and WS-Man for Web services clients) • Protocol adapters (HTML and SNMP) • JConsole and VisualVM, the "out of the box" JMX clients for JVM monitoring • Practical applications of JMX in the real world • JMX-enabled Java products" Copyright © 2013 Oracle and/or its affiliates. Is Java Certification Worth It? | Programming Tip by Tim Buchalka

06:51
Is Java Certification Worth It? | Programming Tip by Tim Buchalka Is it really worth getting Java-certified? Certifications can be expensive for some people and I often get asked if it's really worth every buck. I'll discuss more about that in today's video. Please keep on watching! Here are some links mentioned in this video: Oracle Java Certification - Pass the Associate 1Z0-808 Exam: https://lpa.dev/jcvideo-oracle-cert/yt Java Programming Masterclass for Software Developers: https://lpa.dev/jcvideo-java-mclass/yt Learn Java Programming Crash Course: https://lpa.dev/jcvideo-java-crash/yt My name is Tim Buchalka and I have put together a series of videos which I call the "Programming Tip of the Day". And basically, each video goes through talking about some of the pitfalls and things that you'll need to overcome to succeed as a programmer, things like overcoming frustration and keeping yourself motivated. In this series I will also answer common questions about choosing a programming language to learn, questions about your career path and things of that nature. Now there's a lot of other things as well that I'll cover in these videos and I'm also opening the lines for you to tell me what you want me to cover. Now I've been a programmer for over 35 years so I think I'm real qualified to answer a lot of these questions. So if you do have a question, pop the question in the comments section of this video and I'll do my best to address that in a future video. Google still free to use Java in Android, Oracle to appeal decision

02:06
On Thursday Google dodged a bullet that could have cost the company 9 Billion dollars. Here's the play by play. Google uses the open source platform Java in its Android operating system. Oracle, which owns the copyright for Java, sued Google for copyright infringement. Thursday a federal court ruling in favor of Google stated that the company’s use of 37 of Java’s API is protected by Fair use. This isn’t merely a win for google, it a win for everyone that uses apps. If this judgment had gone the other way, app developers who depend on the ability to freely use API’s, would have been hamstrung by an assortment of legal roadblocks. Running Oracle Forms 11g Applications Using Java Web Start Launcher, No Any Web Browser Required

17:31
How to run oracle form in any browser? How to run Oracle Forms Applications without Web Browser? The Java Plugin has been used by Oracle Forms for many years. Browser technology has since evolved beyond the need or desire to continue supporting plugins of any kind. With modern browser vendors working to restrict and reduce plugin support in their products so it's getting increasingly difficult to run Java applets through browsers, which is a problem for Oracle Forms applications. Developers of applications that rely on the Java browser plugin need to consider alternative options such as migrating from Java Applets (which rely on a browser plugin) to the plugin-free Java Web Start technology. This video tutorial describes the steps to deploy Forms applications using Java(TM) Web Start Launcher. You'll learn how to run Oracle Forms Applications with Java Web Start Launcher from the Desktop or the Java Cache Viewer by creating JNLP File. Even though Java plug-in does not work in web browsers after installing Java, Firefox 52 ESR 32-bit release still supports NAPAPI plug-ins. Alternatively we shall download and install Firefox 52 ESR 32-bit release to run Oracle Forms Applications. You'll also learn how to manage and configure Java Security Exception Site List and set the security level within the Java Control Panel to get rid of the following errors or Java exceptions. (You can add the URL of the application to Exception Site List) oracle.forms.engine.Main ExitException: Unsigned application requesting unrestricted access to system. The following resource is signed with a weak signature algorithm MD5withRSA and is treated as unsigned: http:XXXX:7001/forms/java/frmall.jar This application will run with unrestricted access which may put your computer and personal information at risk. Run this application only if you trust the location and publisher above. Applications Blocked by Java Security. Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running. Warning: an unsigned application from the location below is requesting permission to run Downloading Patches 19933795 from My Oracle Support can also solve many problem. Var with Style: Local Variable Type Inference in Java

38:34
Stuart Marks, Consulting Member of Technical Staff, Oracle Java 10 introduced a feature called local variable type inference, which enables programmers to declare local variables by using “var” instead of an explicit type. This feature makes it possible to write code that is more concise and more readable. However, it’s also possible for this feature to be misused, obfuscating code instead of making it more readable. The Java team has published a set of style guidelines that help direct programmers toward uses of var that improve code quality and help them avoid uses that detract from code quality. This session presents an overview of the new var feature and describes these style rules. The presentation is liberally supplemented with code examples of good uses as well as misuses of var.

Programming with Lambda Expressions in Java

58:51
Now that Java is supporting lambda expressions, it’s time to hone our skills to make use of them. Lambda expressions can help create concise code, but it takes more than learning the syntax to put them to good use. In this session, you will learn the idiomatic use of lambda expressions, explore the ways you can use them to do common tasks, and look into libraries and APIs that make use of them in Java. Developing RESTful Web Services in Java

01:14:32
With the new major revision of the JAX-RS 2.0 API, a completely reworked reference implementation provided by Jersey 2.0 was released earlier this year. However, Jersey is not just a JAX-RS reference implementation. It also provides many additional features such as JSON binding support; integration with various containers and client transports (Grizzly, AHC, and so on); support for server-sent events (SSEs); MVC view templates (analogous to .NET Razor templates); and EclipseLink MOXy integration, with all its bells and whistles (JSON and XML bindings, custom object graphs, externalized descriptors, and so on). This session takes an in-depth look at these cool Jersey features that address additional use cases not covered by the standard JAX-RS API. Author: Marek Potočiar Marek Potociar is a Software Engineering Manager at Oracle. He's been involved with web services development for the last eight years. At present, Marek is a specification lead of Java EE RESTful web services API (JAX-RS) as well as the project manager and development lead of Jersey which provides the next major JAX-RS reference implementation release. Previous to this role Marek was leading development on Metro - The open-source SOAP web services framework for Java.
