Why is the sky blue? Why aren’t there any more dinosaurs? Why do trees change colors? If you’ve been around kids long enough, you know the incessant barrage of questions that, as simple as they seem, often have you scratching your head. However, just because we grow up, it doesn’t mean that our curiosity about the world around us goes away. If you’re ready to finally get the answers to the random questions that lie abandoned in the back of your brain, then you’ve tuned in to the right video! TIMESTAMPS Why do you get goosebumps? 1:00 Why does your voice sound different on a recording? 1:49 Why do you get a brain freeze from cold drinks or foods? 2:39 Why does the sun darken your skin yet lighten your hair? 3:28 Why does time pass more slowly for a child? 4:08 Why don't your eyeballs get cold when it's freezing out? 5:18 Why do your eyes close when sneeze? 5:41 Why don't city pigeons perch in trees? 6:28 Why is dust white against a black backdrop and black against a white one? 7:08 Why do raccoons wash their food? 7:37 Why do birds fly in V-formations? 8:06 Why do we yawn when we’re tired? 8:48 Why does a brook babble? 9:29 Why do you get motion sickness? 9:55 Why do clock hands move circularly? 10:42 Why is the ring finger used for blood tests? 11:29 Why did pirates wear eye patches? 12:15 Why do goats have rectangular pupils? 12:57 Why do you need to sleep? 13:39 Where does toilet waste go on a plane? 14:20 SUMMARY - Goose bumps form when tiny muscles at the base of hair follicles contract. In the animal kingdom, this helps them warm up faster by standing each hair on end and creating a sort of insulation. - Other people hear the soundwaves of your voice coming only through the air, and a recording also contains just these sounds. Yet the way we hear our own voices is a combination of the regular sounds and the low-frequency sounds conducted by the bones of our skulls. - When something extremely cold touches the roof of your mouth, the nerve center located there tends to overreact. - In both cases, the sun’s UV rays break down melanin, which is the pigment responsible for the color of your hair and skin. The difference is in the fact that hair is made up of dead cells while skin cells are alive. - Kids are only starting to get acquainted with the world around them, and their memory has to collect more data. So their year contains more new and unfamiliar "events" than that of a grown-up. - The pigeons hanging out in urban areas have developed a habit of settling on the rocky landscape where there are no trees. It means they didn’t inherit the tree-perching reflex of their rural or jungle relatives. - Dust is actually gray, but the tiny size of its particles prevents us from seeing its true color. - Dust is actually gray, but the tiny size of its particles prevents us from seeing its true color. - When you sleep, it optimizes the synapses in your brain. What this means is that your memories solidify and the tidbits of information you’ve gotten throughout the day move from your short-term to your long-term memory. This power is quite enough to keep a low-wattage LED lamp shining! - The fun part: the enamel which covers the top of your teeth is the hardest part of your whole body. - Hydrochloric acid is a typical "inhabitant" of a human stomach. This type of acid is industrial-grade and can, in fact, destroy metals! - Even the content of your bloodstreams such as vitamins, drugs, or alcohol, can be found out from a strand of hair analysis. - According to scientists, there are four main facial expressions: angry, afraid/surprised, happy, and sad. Based on these, all the rest of 7,000 expressions are performed. - Babies are born with as many as 270 bones. Later on, some of the bones start fusing together, for instance, the bones of the spine. - The resolution of the human eye is estimated to be around 500 megapixels. Another interesting fact about your skin is that every square inch of it is covered with more than six hundred sweat glands. - You always have a blend of old and new bones in your body. - A person blinks on average 15 times a minute, though it is proved that women do it twice as often as men. - Only one percent of the blood they filter turn into the urine, the rest is redistributed throughout the body. A kidney of an adult isn't big at all, in fact, its size can be compared to that of a fist. - Humans retain a tiny fold in the inner corner of the eye. It is what is left from a membrane birds, and mammals have had for protecting the eye and sweeping out debris, at the same time providing visibility. - People who donate part of their liver to those who are in need, don't have to worry about their health. Their liver will soon regenerate the part which has been donated. - Music, especially the one that contains a continuous increase in volume or tempo, makes your heartbeat synchronize with it. - The enzymes make human organs start to digest the body. And they then team up with microbes, and the process of decomposition begins. - All plants, animals, your food, even your car contain pieces of distant stars. - This fist-sized organ beats around 115 thousand times a day and pumps 2,000 gallons of blood. In a lifetime, the number of its beats can reach 3 billion! How much do you know about the U.S.? Were you aware that the Library of Congress could have a record of some of your social media posts? Let’s see which of these 10 little-known facts about the United States will manage to surprise you the most! For example, in fact, there were actually 6 American flags placed on the moon during the Apollo landings. It’s unknown whether all those flags are still standing, but the ones that remain have most likely been bleached completely white, from exposure to radiation from the sun. Or what do you think America’s favorite drink is? Go ahead and guess down in the comments! Tea, coffee, soda, juice? If you think soda, you wouldn’t be entirely wrong since it was the top beverage choice for Americans until recently. Now, its crown has passed to…bottled water! TIMESTAMPS: Out-of-this-world flag 1:05 Americans on the moon 2:03 The greatest of the Great Lakes 2:52 The most visited museums in America 3:49 America’s favorite drink 5:03 The Library of Congress archives 6:05 “Hollywoodland” 7:09 Halloween craze 8:04 The Empire State Building lightning strikes 9:08 The Statue of Liberty 10:05 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - In the U.S., you can see the Star-Spangled Banner waving in the wind at fast food joints, standing tall in people’s yards or attached to their houses, and printed on all kinds of stuff like clothing, pillows, and coffee mugs. - If Armstrong was the first, not many people know that the last man to walk the moon was Apollo 17 Commander Eugene Cernan. - With a surface area of about 31,700 square miles, this lake is about the size of South Carolina! And with a volume of 2,900 cubic miles, Lake Superior is big enough to cover the entirety of North and South America in a foot of water. - Both museums saw around 7 million visitors in 2017, making them tied for the #3 spot on the list of the world’s most visited museums. - In 2016, Americans consumed 88.8 gallons of coffee per capita! So, now you know why your favorite coffee shop is always so crowded! - The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world, holding over 167 million items like rare books, manuscripts, photographs, recordings, and plenty of other important and historic materials. - But when it was installed back in 1923, this iconic sign actually read “Hollywoodland” instead of “Hollywood.” It was originally meant to be a real-estate ad for an upscale district that was only supposed to stand for about a year and a half. - According to the National Retail Federation, more than 175 million Americans are estimated to participate in the holiday in 2018 and will spend around $9 billion. - The tallest building in America is the One World Trade Center at 1,776 feet. But for a long time, from 1931 to 1972, it was the 1,250-foot-tall Empire State Building that held this title. - A lesser known fact is that Lady Liberty looked quite different when she first arrived in New York from Paris. When the copper statue was completed and brought to America in 1886, it was more like the color of a penny. 30 incredible facts about the human body that will deeply impress you. We bet you’ve never heard about half of them! We tend to think that we know our bodies perfectly. We are aware of how they work and what kinds of processes occur in them every second. In fact, the human body is one complex and mysterious mechanism that sometimes confuses even the most qualified specialists — doctors and scientists. SUMMARY 1. A tongue print is absolutely unique. 2. A single hair can hold the weight of a hanging apple. 3. The number of bacteria in a person’s mouth is equal to the number of people living on Earth, or even more. 4. Nails that are soft and brittle, with no moon, could indicate an overactive thyroid. 5. The speed of an incoming brain impulse is about 400 km/h. 6. There are not just four different blood types as we used to think but in fact 29! 7. Over the course of just one day, our blood ’runs’ the distance of 11,9999 miles (or 19,312 kilometers). 8. Men also have glands that can produce milk, but its production represents an abnormality for the male body. 9. A human makes approximately 20,000 breaths per day. 10. Almost all people in the world have special mites on their eyelashes called Demodex. 11. A human eye can distinguish up to 10 million different colors. But our brain can’t remember all of them. 12. Our ears keep on growing throughout our lives with almost unbelievable speed — a quarter of a millimeter per year! 13. The heart beats 35 million times a year. 14. Every day, the human body loses about one million skin cells — that amounts to 4,5 lbs. (or 2 kilos) every year. 15. 1 square centimeter of your skin contains around a hundred pain sensors. 16. This might be very surprising to some, but 26% of men also experience PMS. 17. The average person consumes about 77,000 lbs. (or 35 tons) of food during his or her life. 18. A human spends about five years of their life blinking. Fortunately, we can do many other things simultaneously! 19. 100,000 chemical reactions occur every second in our brains. 20. Women cry average 30 to 64 times a year, and men cry just 6 to 17 times. 21. Smiling triggers 17 muscles of the face while crying activates 43. So smile more! 22. A man’s face preserves its youthful appearance a lot longer than a woman’s face does. 23. The total length of all the nerves in the human body is 46 miles (or 75 km). 24. Boys have fewer taste buds on the surface of their tongues than girls do. 25. All human beings in the world began their existence as females. X and Y chromosomes are responsible for determining an individual’s sex. 26. Men can discern far fewer shades of color than women can, and the reason for this is quite simple. Color perception is determined by retinal cone cells. 27. Women blink twice as much as men. Also, women’s hearts beat faster than men’s. 28. The speed of your sneeze is 100 miles per hour (or 140 km per hour). 29. A feeling of thirst occurs when water loss is equal to 1% of your body weight. The loss of more than 5% can cause fainting, and more than 10% cause death from dehydration. 30. The muscles which help your eyes to focus complete around 100,000 movements a day. #humanbody # Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brightside/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brightgram/ 5-Minute Crafts Youtube: https://www.goo.gl/8JVmuC ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/

Homing instinct in cats 9:45 #cats #catfacts #catlovers Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - The Mesopotamians and ancient Egyptians were the first to domesticate cats. Since these cultures were dependent on agriculture, the enemies of their livelihood were the animals that ate their crops. - Since Egyptians thought of cats so highly, they accessorized their pets with jewels. The richer and more aristocratic the owner, the bigger the jeweled collar their cat wore. - In ancient Egypt, anyone found guilty of killing a cat, even accidentally, was sentenced to death. - Egyptians thought that Bastet manifested physically as a cat and protected Egypt from invasion, just like a cat protects its owner’s home. - In Slavic mythology, it was believed that a barn cat named Ovinnik was the protector of crops and livestock. - It was only around the Middle Ages when cat folklore turned dark. During this time, cats were thought to be accomplices of witches and black magic. - You’ve likely heard about the knack cats have for always landing on their feet no matter how far they fall. This is called a “righting reflex,” - Cats can’t taste sweet foods, but they do have an extra organ that allows them to taste scents in the air. Apparently, that’s why they stare at you sometimes with their mouths open! - Cats have outstanding balance that’s only made better by their long tails. - Cats are carnivores, which (aside from cleaning themselves) is why they have that rough sandpaper tongue. It’s supposed to help them clean every last morsel of flesh from an animal bone. - Cats can drink seawater. Unlike humans, cats have kidneys that can filter out the salt from seawater. - The ridges on a cat’s noses are like fingerprints for people. That means that no two kitty noses are exactly alike! - Cats purr at a frequency of about 26 purrs per second. Did you think that the Vikings were just filthy barbarians who left no imprint on modern times? Well, think again. Vikings -10 interesting facts 1. To “Viking” means “to go on an expedition” overseas. A viking is a person who participates in such an expedition. 2. Vikings were outstanding navigators in an era before the compass was invented. If anything, they used them ceremonially. 5. Vikings loved their boats. In many cases they were buried in them or in graves shaped like boats. 6. Vikings served as personal bodyguards of the Byzantine Emperors 7. When Ericson discovered North America in 1002, he found grapes, hence the name -Wineland 8. Vikings contributed many words to the English language including: Anger, Axe, knife, scare, die, and hell -but also words such as: happy, freckle, skin, rotten and egg, 9. In comparison to other Europeans of the time, Vikings maintained an extraordinary level of hygiene. From its bloody origins to its sweet, chocolaty modern day traditions, these are 25 interesting facts you didn't know about Valentine's Day. https://twitter.com/list25 https://www.facebook.com/list25 http://list25.com Check out the text version too! - http://list25.com/25-interesting-facts-you-didnt-know-about-valentines-day/ Here's a preview: The most popular theory about Valentine's Day origin is that Emperor Claudius II didn't want Roman men to marry during wartime. Bishop Valentine went against his wishes and performed secret weddings. For this, Valentine was jailed and executed. While in jail he wrote a note to the jailor's daugter signing it "from your Valentine". In Victorian times it was considered bad luck to sign a Valentine's Day card. Based on retail statistics, about 3 per cent of pet owners will give Valentine's Day gifts to their pets. About 1 billion Valentine's Day cards are exchanged each year. This makes it the second largest seasonal card sending time of the year If you're single don't despair. You can celebrate Singles Awareness Day (SAD) instead. Meant as an alternative to Valentine's Day, the holiday is for single people to celebrate or to commiserate in their single status. Or you could pop over to Finland where Valentine's Day is called Ystävänpäivä, which translates into "Friend's day". It's more about remembering your buddies than your loved ones. Many believe the X symbol became synonymous with the kiss in medieval times. People who couldn't write their names signed in front of a witness with an X. The X was then kissed to show their sincerity. Girls of medieval times ate bizarre foods on St. Valentine's Day to make them dream of their future spouse. In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who would be their Valentine. They would wear this name pinned onto their sleeves for one week for everyone to see. This was the origin of the expression "to wear your heart on your sleeve." In 1537, England's King Henry VII officially declared Feb. 14 the holiday of St. Valentine's Day. Physicians of the 1800s commonly advised their patients to eat chocolate to calm their pining for lost love. Richard Cadbury produced the first box of chocolates for Valentine's Day in the late 1800s. More than 35 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate will be sold for Valentine's Day. 73 percent of people who buy flowers for Valentine's Day are men, while only 27 percent are women.

https://www.factretriever.com/penguin-facts Seemingly decked out in a tux, the penguin may very well be the most fashionable of our flightless friends. Waddle through these interesting penguin facts to discover just what makes this beloved sea bird the life of the party. 1. In the United States, it is illegal to eat penguins. 2. Penguins’ eyes work better underwater than they do in air. Penguins are extremely short-sighted on land. 3. A group of penguins in the water is called a “raft.” A group of penguins on land is called a “waddle.” 4. Penguins can control the blood flow to their extremities to reduce the amount of blood that gets cold, but not enough so that their extremities freeze. 5. Penguins can drink salt water because they have a special gland, the supraorbital gland, that filters salt from the bloodstream. 6. The tallest type of penguin is the Emperor penguin, at nearly 4 feet tall. The smallest is the Little Blue penguin, at about 16 inches tall. 7. Penguins often slide, or “toboggan” on their tummies over ice and snow. Researchers believe they do this for fun and as an efficient way to travel. 8. Penguins’ unique coloring is called “countershading.” Looking from above, the penguins’ black backs help them blend into the dark ocean. From underwater, the penguins’ white belly blends in against the light sky and snow. 9. Penguins do not have teeth. Instead they have spines on the roof of their beak and on their tongues to help them get a good grip on their prey. 10. By wrapping their bodies in a cloak of bubbles that come from their feathers, penguins gain a type of “turbo” speed, which allows them to jump over 9 feet (3 meters) in the air. In this video I share with you 10 fun facts about dogs! I hope that all you dog owners enjoy this video, and learn something new while you're at it. If you enjoyed this video please don't forget to like, share and subscribe! ══════════════════════ 10 Fun Facts About Dogs ═════════════════════ 1: Dogs drink water by forming the back of their tongue into a cup. Allowing them to bring larger quantities of water into their mouth. 2: Spiked dog collars were invented in ancient Greece and were originally designed to protect dogs throats from wolf attacks. 3: The wetness of a dog’s nose is essential for determining what direction a smell is coming from. 4: Seeing eye dogs pee and poo on command so that their owners can clean up after them. Male dogs are also trained to do their business without lifting their leg. 5: Dogs don’t enjoy being hugged as much as humans and other primates. Canines interpret putting a limb over another animal as a sign of dominance. 6: Dogs can see in colour It is a common myth that dogs can only see in black and white but they can actually see colours - just not as vividly as humans. They only have two cones in their eyes to detect colours, whereas humans have three. That means dogs see colours on a blue and yellow scale but cannot distinguish between red and green. On the other hand, they have better night vision than humans. 7: Dogs can smell disease If your canine friend is acting strange there might be nothing wrong with them - the problem could be with you. Research has found - dogs have an incredible ability to recognise the smell of a range of organic compounds that show the human body isn’t working as it should. That means your dog can actually diagnose cancer - as well as diabetes and the early signs of an epileptic seizure. 8: Dogs dream just like you This won’t come as a huge surprise to anyone who has watched their own dog twitching or whimpering in their sleep. Dogs have the same brain wave patterns while they are asleep as humans, so they dream just like we do. But what is more surprising is the fact that not all dogs dream the same amount. Small dogs actually have more dreams than big dogs. For example, a small dog such as a toy poodle may dream once every 10 minutes, whereas a great dane may have around an hour between each dream. 9: Dogs have three eyelids, an upper lid, a lower lid and the third lid, called a nictitating membrane, which helps keep the eye moist and protected. 10: Unlike humans who sweat everywhere, dogs only sweat through the pads of their feet. ═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════ If you enjoyed this video don't forget to like, share and subscribe!

They always hum in the key of F. Ostriches can run faster than horses, and the male ostriches can roar like lions. Bats are the only mammals that can fly. Kangaroos use their tails for balance, so if you lift a kangaroo's tail off the ground, it can't hop. On average, there are 50,000 spiders per acre in green areas. Tigers not only have stripes on their fur, they also have them on their skin. No two tigers ever have the same stripes. To escape the grip of a crocodile's jaw, push your thumb into its eyeball -- It will let you go instantly. Fleas can jump up to 200 times their height. This is equivalent to a man jumping the Empire State Building in New York. A cat has 32 muscles in each ear. Elephants can smell water up to 3 miles away. They are also one of the three mammals that undergo menopause -- the other two being humpback whales and human females. Koala bears almost exclusively eat only eucalyptus leaves and nothing else. Because beavers' teeth never stop growing, they must constantly gnaw on objects to keep them at a manageable length. Their teeth would eventually grow into their brain if they didn't maintain them. Beware an ant uprising! There are one million ants for every human in the world. These resilient creatures also never sleep and do not have lungs. Oysters can change gender depending on which is best for mating. Butterflies have two compound eyes consisting of thousands of lenses, yet they can only see the colors red, green and yellow. A snail can grow back a new eye if it loses one. You can tell a turtle's gender by the noise it makes. Males grunt and females hiss. Giraffes have no vocal cords and their tongues are blue-black in color. Millions of trees are accidentally planted by squirrels that bury nuts and then forget where they hid them. Humpback whales create the loudest sound of any living creature. Dogs' nose prints are as unique as human fingerprints and can be used to identify them. The slowest fish is the seahorse, which moves along at about 0.01 mph. Pigs communicate constantly with one another; more than 20 vocalizations have been identified that pigs use in different situations, from wooing mates to saying, "I'm hungry!" Contrary to popular belief, French poodles actually originated in Germany. Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backwards and their wings can beat at up to 80 times per second.
