Bro to Gentleman | Episode 1 - "Ed"
Welcome to the first in our series of male makeovers. We take a regular bro who aspires to be more dapper in his style and fashion sense, then give him a full image reboot, including haircut, style and wardrobe overhaul! In Episode 1, we invite self-confessed “average Joe” to receive a full style and wardrobe overhaul. Ed (23) from Brisbane, Australia, works a day job in the suburbs, doesn’t go out that much, and was getting a little fed up with the monotony of his day-to-day. He recalls fondly the feeling of the last time he went to the effort of dressing dapper, and the attention it got him. It’s a feeling he wants to experience again, and this makeover is just the thing to get the wheels in motion! Rain Gear for Gentlemen - Gentleman's Gazette
What to wear in wet weather? Rain Gear and Outdoor wear for men Read the full primer here: https://gentl.mn/rain-gear-for-gentlemen #raingear #gentlemansgazette #notsponsored Want to learn more about TRENCH COATS? Go here: https://gentl.mn/2kUPefa SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. Madder Silk Tie in Dark Ruby Red Macclesfield Neats Blue Orange Pattern - https://gentl.mn/2HsL1It 2. Navy and Yellow Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks - https://gentl.mn/2xOIcC5 Normally most kind of rain gear is polyester based not very stylish. So we focus on the elegant aspects. The number one item of outerwear for a rainy day in my opinion is a trench coat. If you're wearing tailored clothes, it's just an extension in terms of originality, style and history of the suit. The second classic option are rubberized raincoats. Back in the day, it was like rubberized cotton. Modern raincoats for gentlemen are often made out of synthetics. The third option for gentlemen are classic casual wax jackets. Basically these are garments made out of cotton that have a waxy surface that creates a patina over time that's very sophisticated. The fourth thing to consider for a gentleman are performance fabric that are based in a sartorial realm. In terms of shoes and shoe care, I'm a big stickler for traditional leather dress shoes and most of them can bear some form of rain without a problem. Your feet will remain dry. If you pre-treat your shoes you don't have to worry too much. For a regular calf leather shoe with leather soles I suggest you invest in a leather sole oil and sometimes you can also find water repellent sprays that you spray on. The third option you have is to go with over shoes or galoshes. If you're into Cordovan shoes, I suggest you really try to avoid wet weather with those because it can lead to very ugly water stains which are hard to remove. So what if your leather dress shoes or your boots get really wet or soaked? Evenly wet the shoe. That seems counterintuitive but by adding water back into the shoe and letting it dry in a natural way without artificial heat, you will have a nice leather again that has no more water stains. If you live in an area where it rains a lot or you have to deal with floods regularly it pays to invest in some really sturdy rubber boots that are tall or rain boots that are 100% waterproof. During the cold days of the year. A pair of unlined dressy leather gloves or even lined leather gloves that are waterproof can be a godsend. A felt hat can be a great way to keep dry. They're usually made out of rabbit hair which is naturally water repellent. The better option is to go with an umbrella because it's much wider and it really keeps you much drier. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks Light Brown and Blue - https://gentl.mn/2r0lOjg 4. Eagle Claw Cufflinks with Tiger's Eye Balls - https://gentl.mn/2KeMS6t Trad is an adaptation of the North Eastern American style which is not as popular as prep or Ivy style. Arguably, trad is the most classic and refined version of this northern American style. It's, in fact, a somewhat contemporary take on the fashions of the roaring 20s. Its core is similar to Ivy style, trad was born as a form of rebellion against the fathers and the parents. It was a way for students to develop their own identity using clothes that were somewhat related to what their fathers would have deemed appropriate, at the same time, adding their own touch to it. Trad was way for young men to distinguish themselves from polo and boat shoes wearing young men as well as very stodgy old Saxon wearers. So what exactly is the difference between prep, Ivy, and trad style? Think about it this way, prep is the most casual style. Ivy is a notch up, and trad is even less casual and more formal than Ivy style. The entire purpose of trad is to maintain the conservative approach to clothing while adding a personal note without going overboard and looking like you're wearing a costume. So how would you dress in a trad style way? Well, first of all, think of it as using a very traditional approach with a bit of nonchalance. You just add more casual elements that would traditionally not work with your outfits, for example, that means you invest in a blue navy blazer or two in several three-piece or two-piece suits, as well as cardigans and sweater vests. However, instead of going with plain solid worsted colors you would mix it up and wear maybe a herringbone suit in brown or maybe a houndstooth flannel suit, or you would go with a faint windowpane on your navy suit, instead of going plain solid. So to mix it up, you would skip the matching vest with your suit and instead, opt for maybe a burgundy flannel vest or a doeskin vest or a moleskin vest or you could go with a blue tweed vest. In terms of neckwear, you can still wear neckties and bow ties, however, you can maybe go with slightly different knots. In terms of tie fabrics, madder silk ties were very popular and so were repp striped ties. The goal is to always express yourself in a sophisticated way that is different enough to break with the monotony of classic suits all the while not allowing people to pinpoint how your outfit is different. Obviously today, dress codes have relaxed a lot more and so it's okay for trads to wear slightly more colorful pocket squares or just things that are a little bit louder that might have not been considered 100% trad appropriate 50 years ago. I think trad is a wonderful concept because it allows people to wear suits that are not business suits and therefore they look more casual but they're still quite stylish. Of course the world, in general, has become more casual and so prep style and Ivy style are more popular today but if you want to mix things up and go a little bit more formal, trad might be the perfect way to do so. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? 10 Clothing Items Every Man Or Gentleman Should Have
For a more comprehensive guide on the 10 Must Have Menswear items, click here: https://gentl.mn/10-mens-clothing-must-haves #mensclothingmusthaves #notsponsored #wardrobeessentials You can check out the accessories I'm wearing here: Wool Challis Tie in Turquoise with Gray, Orange, Navy and Yellow Pattern: https://gentl.mn/2lyCEAG Orange, Green, Blue, Yellow, Silk Wool Medallion Pocket Square: https://gentl.mn/2ltB6vY 1. White dress shirt The fabric should be either made of plain poplin weave or a fine herringbone twill. Ideally, you want a medium spread collar because it can be worn with many things and it works with every face shape. You also want no chest pocket because it's a formal shirt and formal shirts don't have chest pockets. 2. Light blue dress shirt You want it to be made from a rugged fabric such as Oxford. You can also go with poplin, maybe a twill weave or anything else that stands the test of time. If you live in warmer regions, you can also get an open weave fabric, but overall, I suggest you stay clear of the chest pocket even though you could wear it because it's a less formal shirt. 3. Navy suit To start, I'd invest in a single breasted suit with notched lapels, not too skinny, not too wide, about 10cm or 4 inches for the lapel width. I would choose side vents and flap pockets. If you don't like the single-breasted style, you can also go for double-breasted with six buttons and two closing buttons. For pants, I would choose cuffed, and since I have bigger thighs, I would go pleated. Of course, that's up to you. 4. Classic navy blazer No, not the one from your suit. While you can wear that jacket as a separate with khakis, if you get a navy blazer, you should get something distinctly different. That being said, get a lighter shade of navy than your suit because it has to look different and a lighter color is usually more casual which is the origin if the blazer hence, you should go with that. 5. Gray flannel suit It's a classic wardrobe staple and men like Cary Grant wore it in North by Northwest; Gianni Agnelli made it world-famous with a specific shade from Vitale Barberis Canonico. It's not just so popular because some famous people wore it, it's very functional, versatile, and for example, you can take the pants and wear it with a navy blazer which is another very classic combination. 6. Tweed sportcoat I'm wearing one right now; it's a twill weave with a nice windowpane overcheck. There are lots of other options, for example, with a houndstooth, or a regular twill, or a shepherd's check or simply a Donegal tweed, no matter how old you are or what your style is, there's a tweed sports coat out there that suits you perfectly. 7. Gabardine trench coat It's a timeless classic that has a military history; it's a perfect raincoat. It can have a liner for colder months of the year, and in a double-breasted silhouette, it's simply elegant, and you can pair it with formal suits as well as casual combinations. 8. Chinos Chinos are cotton pants that come in a tone of khaki, sand, or stone, and they're more casual and very versatile. You can wear them with all kinds of jackets or just a shirt or a sweater and they're often office appropriate. 9. Vest or waistcoat Personally, I love vests; I have lots of them. If I'd have to pick just one vest, I'd go with a burgundy collar, maybe a flannel, or doe skin, because it's contrasting and you can pair it with anything else I discussed today and a lot more. 10. Sweater More specifically a bottle green wool sweater with a V-neck because I like to wear them all the time. If you don't, go with a crew neck that is round and it just looks better than a V-neck. It's perfect to layer over shirts, you can have it under jackets, you can wear it on its own, or with an overcoat, and just keeps you warm in the winter. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most Popular videos: How to accept a compliment - https://youtu.be/_EKXNmM1PUo 101 things that change when you dress up - https://youtu.be/JyGDd_iYaCI How to tie a Bow Tie - https://youtu.be/2I3cfa0BOOc --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? How To Wear Yellow & Look The Part - Gentleman's Gazette
Learn to incorporate yellow into your outfits so you look dapper as ever! - https://gentl.mn/2kG4GyE SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. Knit Tie in Solid Pale Yellow - https://gentl.mn/2xvYa3z 2. Pale Yellow Linen Pocket Square with Yellow Handrolled X Stitch - https://gentl.mn/2wMtRBo 3. Navy and Yellow Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks - https://gentl.mn/2kCPYZ6 Some men are reluctant to wear yellow in their wardrobe because they think it's too bright . While I agree, a yellow suit is very extraordinary and flashy, yellow accessories on the other hand, can bear really well with classic menswear colors. On top of that, yellow just doesn't come in one shade but in a really wide range of mustard, darks, all the way to light yellows, medium bright yellows, sunflower yellows, chamois yellows, you name it. So what colors go well with yellow and how should you combine them? First of all, the number one classic is to pair it with blue. Honestly, it’s the easiest way to pair yellow because the colors are opposite on the color wheel and everything it's opposite from one another always pairs well. It’s one of my go-to combinations for yellow and because of that, I created a pair of socks that is shadows tried with navy blue and yellow because it's very easy to combine it, it provides enough contrast and it’s always dapper. The second not so obvious candidate is grey and yellow. Grey can be quite dark and dull but a touch of yellow certainly brightens things up. A lighter gray, or mid gray suit, work well with a pastel color. A darker gray flannel suit for example, works well with the orangey mustardy sunflower yellow. Stay clear of harsh strong neon yellows or very bright yellows because it's just too clashing with the rest of the gray; or you decide to combine it with another softer tone such as brown as it's done in my sport coat. It consists of a light brown mustard yellow and grey. Overall, if I had to pick just one shade of grey to pair with yellow, it would be the gray flannel. Three, one of my favorites to combine is yellow and brown. They are both warm colors and they simply go together exceptionally well. For example, in that outfit, I'm wearing a brown jacket with a waistcoat and a mustard yellow pair of chinos. Brown is the ideal muted background color for a yellow accent unlike grey, it also allows to create enough contrast without being too harsh. Obviously, there are lots of shades of brown that contain yellow and because of that, it's very easy to combine. At the same time, brown remains a solid background without disappearing and being overshadowed by the yellow. The fourth combination I want to talk about is pairing green with yellow. As you know, I'm a big fan of green in menswear, simply because it's very versatile and green is made out of blue and yellow; so pairing yellow with green is always a winner. It doesn’t matter if you take a darker bottle green such as in this madder silk tie and paired with a sunflower yellow, or if you go more with a lighter green and yellow, or maybe a darker olive green and yellow. The fifth combination is burgundy or maroon paired with yellow. It's very classic and it has these brown tones and because of that, it likewise works very well together. Whether you add some blue to it or you just keep it at that, those burgundy and yellow tones, it will always look harmonious together. Burgundy suits are the exception to the rule and most men will not have one in their wardrobe. #howtowearyellow #howtopairyellow #notsponsored -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most Popular videos: How to accept a compliment - https://youtu.be/_EKXNmM1PUo 101 things that change when you dress up - https://youtu.be/JyGDd_iYaCI How to tie a Bow Tie - https://youtu.be/2I3cfa0BOOc --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Mid Brown and Green Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks - https://gentl.mn/2hF0SJM 5. Fort Belvedere Boutonnieres - https://gentl.mn/2hIVoO8 00:29 Well fitting suit So ideally, that's a bespoke suit such as you can get on Savile Row. As a side note, the Japanese word for a suit is SEBIRO which is their pronunciation of Savile Row. A bespoke suit makes a very interesting experience, at the same time, it's quite pricey. 01:44 Quality lighter Ideally, with a double flame. A traditional brand would be something like a DuPont and if you don't smoke, not even cigars, it's okay you don't need it but at the end of the day, it's each to his own. 02:00 Good umbrella Obviously, some countries specialize in umbrellas because they have very rainy weather, such as England, or Great Britain, and because of that, you'll find lots of quality makers on that island. Good brands include Brigg, Fox umbrellas, or James Smith. 03:16 Quality trench coat Some purists swear by the original models from Burberry, others go with Aquascutum. 03:38 Quality corkscrew Some people like Laguiole, which is a French brand, and they have handmade corkscrews made for sommelier or waiters or people who just use it a lot. 04:27 Linen handkerchief You can either wear them as a pocket square or you can use them to dry your tears, to polish a glass, or do something else. 05:00 Quality fountain pen with a gold nib There's simply nothing like a good fountain pen because it's very smooth, it gives your handwriting a very distinguished sophisticated look that can't be replicated with a ballpoint pen or a rollerball. 06:02 Quality toolbox with quality tools Sometimes, people swear by certain brands such a Stanley, DeWalt, Milwaukee, or Bosch. At the end of the day, you'll have to figure out what is an acceptable amount of money to spend on the tool, however, I find that oftentimes you can find quality tools at estate sales or at flea markets. 06:50 Real camera I mean something where you can adjust the ISO, the shutter speed, and the aperture manually so you can take exactly the picture that you want. 07:59 Black dress shoes It's a very formal shoe that you can wear for business purposes, for funerals, or whenever you need a serious looking shoe. 08:33 Signature Scent As you might suspect, I always favor quality scents and I stay away from famous name brands such as Armani or Ralph Lauren, or Mont Blanc because generally, the essences they use inside the bottle costs very little, the flacon cost a little more and a profit overall is quite high. 09:14 Serious watch Some people say a proper watch is the first jewel a man owns and while you can discuss about that, it's definitely something that is part of a classic gentleman's wardrobe. 10:32 Vintage port It's a Portuguese tradition that when a child is born, you buy a bottle of that vintage year. 10:59 Favorite book By great, I mean either the first edition or another edition where the author made significant changes. 11:43 Pristine white dress shirt I think it should be the first one every gentleman invests in because it's something that can always be worn. 12:19 Pair of cufflinks By that, I mean something that you can wear with different outfits no matter whether it's a business suit or a tweed sport coat. 12:57 Quality belt and a quality pair of suspenders Ideally, the belt should have folded edges or should be neatly edged painted. 13:49 Signet ring or a pinky ring It's just a very elegant thing that a gentleman can wear and just like with fountain pens once you have one you will likely create a collection. #musthaveitems #notsponsored --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Resort Attire: Resort Casual & Resort Evening Dress Code Guide - Gentleman's Gazette
Learn all about RESORT ATTIRE in our full-fledged guide, here: https://gentl.mn/2CKz7aK SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. Shantung Striped Dark Red, Blue and White Silk Tie - https://gentl.mn/2EUP3gw 2. Dark Blue Linen Pocket Square with White Handrolled X Stitch -https://gentl.mn/2EVZh0e 3. Midnight Blue and Burgundy Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks - https://gentl.mn/2F5PP9U Resort attire or resort wear is a dress code that is established around the globe. It's even the basis for an annual collection of couture fashion designers who focus just on this segment because a lot of people want to look stylish even when they relax. You'll most likely find it in the country clubs or nice resorts or hotels that want to make sure that guests don't show up in board shorts for dinner. Sometimes the dress code resort wear can be ambiguous because different hotels or resorts define it differently. As a rule of thumb keep in mind the more posh or upscale an establishment is, the more formal the dress code is likely going to be. So before I approach you with some ideas of what to wear when the dress code is resort casual, first let's discuss what not to wear. Athletic attire of any kind is always inappropriate. Your gym shorts, your t-shirts are not appropriate. That also means no track pants, no sweatpants, no joggers and no workout shorts. Avoid wearing t-shirts or tank tops and always make sure your shirts have some kind of a collar such as a polo shirt would be fine with short sleeves or long sleeves or a dress shirt. It also means don't wear shower slides, flip-flops or sandals unless you're specifically at the beach or by the pool area. You definitely want to avoid any type of tennis shoes or trainers. Definitely stay clear of black because that would be too formal. In some establishments, golf khakis or slacks with polo shirt are acceptable in a clubhouse. In others, they aren't so it pays to specifically ask or figure out what the proper dress code at your venue is. So what should you wear when it comes to resort casual during the day? The first thing that probably comes to mind is the Hawaiian shirt. I've been to Hawaii recently and I hardly saw anybody wearing Hawaiian shirts. So they're out there, they exist. They can be appropriate if you're in the mood for it, go for it, but it's definitely not something you have to have and sometimes it can also look a bit cheesy. So in terms of slacks, you can go with linen pants or cotton pants. Things like seersucker is totally fine and you can also go with shorts as long as they are longer and made of cotton or linen or other interesting materials. At the same time skip any kind of swim trunks or board shorts because that would be too informal. Try to keep with a shirt unless you're at the pool or at the beach. A polo shirt is just fine during the day, a t-shirt maybe a little too informal but if you're at the beach or in the vicinity that's okay too. I say jackets are over-the-top and if you're at a resort during offseason you may want to have a thin sweater or something that keeps you at the ideal temperature. In terms of shoes you can wear driving mocs, maybe boat shoes. If you're at the beach and you go from your room to the pool flip-flops are just fine. So what does resort evening wear mean? It means typical long sleeves, long pants, no more tailored shorts. It also means closed-toed shoes which can be your general derbies or oxfords in brown tones or tans. You can also be a little more playful maybe if you wanna go with a pair of spectators or maybe some white shoes. Something that is more summery and more associated with tropics. Stay clear of black shoes even in the evening because it's not quite suited to the tropics. A jacket is not mandatory but definitely a good idea. Personally, I always like it because in the evening and can get a little cooler and it's also much more elegant and stylish. A navy blazer is very versatile and you can wear it even though I think a cotton jacket such as the one I'm wearing here right now with a slight check, maybe a fresco jacket in a lighter color is preferable. If you want to you can wear a seersucker suit but in general, I'd stay clear of suits and rather go with combinations. #resortattire #dresscode #resortcasual --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? 8 Secrets To Being Well Dressed - How To Look Like A Gentleman | Kirby Allison
In today’s video, I am going to share with you eight secrets to being the best-dressed gentleman the room. It is really not that hard or that expensive to be really well-dressed. There are, in fact, basic hallmarks of a well-dressed gentleman that anyone can follow. Shop Hanger Project: https://www.hangerproject.com PRODUCTS FEATURED IN VIDEO Wellington Shoe Laces https://www.hangerproject.com/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=laces Collar Stays https://www.hangerproject.com/clothing-accessories/luxury-collar-stays-and-collar-stay-holders.html Ties https://www.hangerproject.com/clothing-accessories/neckware.html Pocket Squares https://www.hangerproject.com/clothing-accessories/pockect-squares.html 1. Good Hygiene. Looking really good and being a gentleman always starts with pride in yourself. And that always begins with one’s personal hygiene. The initial hallmark of being a well-dressed gentleman is always good hygiene. Once your personal cleanliness is taken care of, you can focus on your personal ensemble for the day. 2. Clean, unstained, well-mended clothes. They don't have to be new -- but they can't be ripped, stained, and threadbare. You also don’t have to wear a new, freshly laundered shirt every day, but it does have to be pressed. But if it sinks or has any visible stains, wear a fresh one. 3. Well-Pressed. Now that your clothes are clean, they also need to well-pressed, with a crisp trouser crease and freshly-pressed dress shirt are essential. 4. Properly-Fitting. Your dress shirt, jacket, and trousers need to fit properly. And always better a little loose than a little tight. It always looks bad if your clothes are too tight or too small. But clothes that are a little large can have their own look. Just like Anderson & Shepphard -- their jackets are a little large to create drape, and people think they are amazing. If you are not comfortable in a suit, it doesn't fit. I'm telling you, the most comfortable clothing a man can wear is a dress ensemble. A properly-fitting wool suit where the fabric is matched to the climate, a dress shirt whose collar fits properly, and tie is absolutely the most comfortable clothing a man can wear. If it isn't, it doesn't fit. That is a fact. 5. Well-Polished Dress Shoes Well-polished shoes with unfrayed fray laces absolutely make difference in being well-dressed. This has been proven study after study. Both men and women notice the condition of a man’s shoes right away. Not only with well-polished shoes make you look better, but they’ll make your shoes last longer. A little bit of effort, some Saphir shoe polish, and our Hanger Project High-Shine Chamois is all you need. Of course, we have an extensive library of shoe care tutorials to help you learn how to properly care for and polish your shoes. 6. Pocket Square You can never go wrong with a white pocket square; however; matching your pocket square to your ensemble in a neutral or complementary color is always a good idea. However, never exactly match your pockets square to your tie in the same silk. 7. Nice Tie with a Proper Dimple Most ties look best with a dimple. And most ties look good with their ends relatively close to each other. 8. A nice Fragrance. It is always nice to top off a beautiful ensemble with a little bit of a nice cologne so that you smell as good as you look. It doesn’t have to be an expensive fragrance, but it does have to smell good. Just be careful to not use too much so that it is not overpowering. The only way you can go wrong with fragrance is if you use way too much. For a large part of the day, people will be put off because you smell way too strong. But, in general, some cologne is a good idea. If you are preparing for anything important, you start by taking care of yourself. You take a nice hot shower, you shave, you trim your nose and ears, and eyebrows if necessary. You put on a little cologne. Shine your shoes, press any garments that need to be touched up, and then dress well. This doesn’t have to be difficult, time-consuming, or expensive – instead, it can be a ritual you enjoy and to which you look forward. Pros & Cons of Buying Vintage Clothing
Benefits & Drawbacks of buying vintage clothing: https://gentl.mn/vintage-buying-guide Want to stay updated? Sign up here for free: https://gentl.mn/2F4OH49 Want to see more videos? Subscribe to our channel! https://www.youtube.com/user/thegentlemansgazette --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gentleman's Gazette https://www.gentlemansgazette.com/ https://gentl.mn/2UA3ri8 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gentlemansgazette FREE EBOOK: https://gentl.mn/2F4OH49 #vintagebuying #vintageclothing #notsponsored A Comprehensive breakdown of the pros and cons of buying vintage menswear starting first with the positives.: Firstly, you'll be able to find garments in styles that aren't commonly produced or available any more. If you do find garments like these, they'll allow you to stand out even from other well-dressed men. Next, prices are often just a fraction of what you would pay for something new especially if you're shopping in places like Goodwill, for example. Also, our founder, Sven Raphael Schneider has had good luck purchasing things at European flea markets especially in the off seasons. Also, vintage garments can generally be tailored just as easily as something new. This depends on the individual garment of course and whether it's got excess fabric to let out or remove. In a similar vein, older methods of clothing construction were often more durable both in terms of the raw materials used and in the detail of human construction. Another plus by shopping at a consignment store or similar establishment, you'll be supporting your local economy rather than some giant corporation. In a similarly conscious frame of mind, buying vintage garments is a particularly green way to shop since you're essentially recycling old garments and giving them a new lease on life. Here's another cost-conscious point about vintage, you might not actually have to buy at all. For example, if you've got older relatives who are looking to downsize their wardrobes, family heirlooms like watches, for example, or friends who just know that you're on the lookout for vintage items, you might be able to come up with some vintage finds at no cost to you. Finally in the positives category, buying and wearing vintage provides a great conversation starter for those who might be especially curious about what you're wearing. So as you can see, there are a lot of potential positives when shopping for vintage menswear. With that said though, you should also be aware that there can be some potential downsides: Firstly, you might not always find the size you need especially if you're a larger man in terms of both height and weight. The average man has just gotten bigger around the world in the last 100 years. As such, if you're looking for vintage garments, you might not always find something in your size. On a similar sizing note, tags and labels on vintage garments can be misleading as sizes for certain types of garments have changed somewhat over the last 100 years or so. Here's a drawback you may already have thought of, some vintage clothing may have issues with odors, stains, or other damage, however, even if this is the case, there are workarounds available to you. Speaking of damage, though that is another potential downside, if you do damage a vintage piece irreparably or lose it for that matter, you might not be able to find another one quite like it. That old item you found might truly be one-of-a-kind at this point or at least rare enough to basically be such. Now regarding pricing, while many vintage shops and online retailers will often be offering things for great prices, there is the occasional chance that a seller might be trying to overcharge you after all. And while the online space is becoming more crowded, physical storefronts are becoming a bit more scarce. So if you'd like to go that route, you'll probably have to put in a bit of additional time to scout out locations in your area. Another potential downside to physical locations is that they may sometimes have poor fitting room conditions. The lighting may be substandard and you might not find a three-way mirror so in other words, you might not get the best look at how a garment fits you from all angles. And perhaps the biggest drawback many vintage sellers whether online or in-store will often have no returns policy or a very limited one. Taking all of these factors into consideration then, the required effort may ultimately result in you falling prey to the so-called this will do phenomenon. There will always be other vintage finds out there that will suit you better.

Everlane Try-On Haul & Review | Men’s Fashion Basics | Ethical Clothing Brand
Everlane → http://bit.ly/2EYst3J Fast fashion is often frowned upon for being wasteful with an emphasis on trend chasing, and not to mention questionable manufacturing practices. That's why I'm so excited to highlight a brand that offers minimal basics while being transparent about the entire manufacturing process. Everlane has been able to carve a niche in ethical and sustainable fashion amidst the mega-fashion retailers like H&M, Zara, and Uniqlo. You could say that it's clothing with a conscience. In this Everlane try-on haul and review, I'll be taking a look at 6 basic pieces from this ethical clothing brand. In addition to highlighting each item, I'll be talking about how they feel and fit. ➢ Read the companion article → http://bit.ly/2TpJEoO ⬇️ SHOP THE TRY-ON HAUL ⬇️ French Terry Grey Sweatshirt: http://bit.ly/2F7k4uM Dark Indigo Slim Fit Jeans: http://bit.ly/2Fcftb2 White, Blue Stripe Oxford Shirt: http://bit.ly/2TJowdw Slim Fit Navy Chinos: http://bit.ly/2H5A0RJ Navy Cotton Bomber Jacket: http://bit.ly/2Fch6FG ReNew Fleece Sweatshirt: http://bit.ly/2TNBirw Pique Polo Shirt: http://bit.ly/2TM4IpV Nike Internationalist Sneakers: https://rstyle.me/n/dccymjccer7 Oxblood Captoe Boots: http://shrsl.com/1hjdk Nike Killshot 2’s: https://rstyle.me/n/ddx9z4ccer7 Hamilton Khaki Field Watch: https://amzn.to/2EQyUah - - - - - - - - - - - - ✖Exclusive Stuff: ➢‘I Am A Gentleman’ Manifesto → http://bit.ly/2vQewP5 ➢A Crash Course to Better Style → http://bit.ly/2nFUSS1 ➢Expand Your Style Comfort Zone →http://bit.ly/2HvJXZO ➢Gentlemen Within Community → http://bit.ly/2wYuH1n ➢Exclusive Deals For You → http://bit.ly/2GnqWGT • Get my skin care routine for 20% off at http://www.tiege.com/gentlemanwithin - - - - - - - - - - - - ✖Let's Connect I N S T A G R A M: http://bit.ly/2kyHgI9 F A C E B O O K: http://bit.ly/2F0UbiL T W I T T E R: http://bit.ly/2F2On7v P I N T E R E S T: http://bit.ly/2SQwUTV W E B S I T E: http://bit.ly/2M6erAp S N A P C H A T: khoiii - - - - - - - - - - - - ✖Video Recommendations: TRY-ON/HAULS • H&M Winter: http://bit.ly/2C5YYwM • ASOS Winter: http://bit.ly/2BMp2JZ LOOKBOOKS • Winter Lookbook 2019: http://bit.ly/2EAqgNz • Spring Lookbook | Easy Outfit Ideas: http://bit.ly/2s79NJB • How To Wear A Bomber Jacket 7 Ways: http://bit.ly/2qawhrL IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT STYLE • Avoid These 11 First Date Outfit Red Flags: http://bit.ly/2Q9DoMI • 18 Common Style Mistakes & How To Fix ‘Em: http://bit.ly/2KsJDXQ • 5 Elements Of Timeless Style: http://bit.ly/2F2myJS PRODUCT/BRAND REVIEWS • Thursday Boots Review: 2 Years Later: http://bit.ly/2IOmmAs • 5 Reasons Why I Love My Seiko 5: http://bit.ly/2zMq8tn • Best No Show Socks | 15 Brands Compared: http://bit.ly/2ODi9Bi STYLE INSPIRATION • Men's Fashion Trends To Wear Right Now (2019): http://bit.ly/2RKeaIt • 8 Types Of Shirts & 60 Ways To Wear Them: http://bit.ly/2OGv3PA • 7 Awesome Fall/Winter Boot Styles For Men: http://bit.ly/2wMIBBq - - - - - - - - - - - - MY CLOSING THOUGHTS I mentioned sustainable clothing brands as a bonus fashion trend for 2019. Everlane is among those few brands. Conscious clothing brands though still rare, are becoming more commonplace in an industry and culture run amok with the latest trends. Is Everlane Good Quality? Overall, I'm impressed with Everlane. They manage to sell at an affordable (not quite fast fashion cheap) price point for some really nice quality basics. In terms of durability, I'm going to have to update this article in the future after, so you can check back to see how the pieces have held up over the long haul. Is Everlane Good For Short Men? Being a shorter guy (5'6"), I have to give my take on the fit for short men. I've gotta say that I'm impressed with the fit of their clothing. Initially I was skeptical because most brands fail to cater to men under the average (American) height of 5'9.5". And while Everlane doesn't specifically cater to the shorter demographic like say brands like Peter Manning NYC or Ash & Erie, they do a pretty good job of it. They carry some XXS sizes and some of their products have a shorter cut like the bomber jacket or example, making them perfect for guys of shorter stature. - - - - - - - - - - - - FTC: This video is not sponsored, however, Everlane sent over the products for me to try on. Video probably contains affiliate links where I get a small commission if you buy through my channel at no cost to you. This helps support the channel and allows me to continue making videos like this. #Everlane #TryOnHaul #EthicalFashion #Haul #Review #Minimalist #Menswear #Basics #EthicalClothing

9 Reasons Dressing Down Is Overrated - Gentleman's Gazette
Find out why you must put an effort into dressing up: https://gentl.mn/dressing-down-is-overrated SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. Shantung Striped Green, Purple, and Cream Silk Tie - https://gentl.mn/2IGQOuO 2. Wine Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Orange Silk Wool Medallion Pocket Square - https://gentl.mn/2Mx70AY 3. Monkey's Fist Knot Cufflinks - Vermeil Sterling Silver Yellow Gold - https://gentl.mn/2tK4LmW The truth is we live in a society, we don't live in a vacuum just for ourselves, and the way you dress and the way you appear to others has a huge impact whether you want it or not. The truth is also that it does cost some money to dress up. That being said, dressing up can be a lot less expensive than you might think and I strongly suggest you check out this video on 15 things you can do to dress like a gentleman on a budget. Even if you do have to spend a little more, it really pays to look at it more of an investment rather than an expense. 1. People Won't Take You Seriously As a consequence, you won't take yourself as seriously and you will think that you can't achieve certain things even though you could do them. No matter the situation, dressing well gives you an air of authority and it usually means dressing up. Yale conducted an interesting study of mock real estate negotiations; they had men dressed up, dressed neutral, and dressed down. The men who dressed down felt at a disadvantage from the get-go and ultimately, they lost more money and deferred more money to the people who were better dressed. 2. People Who Dress Up Make More Money Over The Course Of Their Career People who dress up make more money over the course of their career just think about it if your boss doesn't take you seriously and if he doesn't respect your work why would he promote you even if you don't believe the studies and think that it worked has changed 75% of men think that their well-dressed counterparts are more successful in their jobs. 3. You Look Less Attractive Three, you will look less attractive. You can't change your physical features aside from working out and even if you work out, the fact remains that if you wear a suit or if you dress up, if you dress well, you will always look better than the equivalent person in a t-shirt and sweatpants. 4. Dressing Down Will Keep You From Doing Things When you wear sweatpants and your t-shirt, you don't feel it's appropriate to go out on the street so you just stay in, hang out on the couch, order pizza and watch Netflix. In my opinion, your clothes should not hold you back, they should help you move forward. 5. Dressing Down Makes You Look Lazy Five, dressing down makes you look lazy. Yes, it's easy and cheap to buy a pair of t-shirt and sweatpants, at the same time, that's exactly the message you communicate "I'm cheap and lazy" 6. What You Wear Is Not Just About You Tom Ford once said that dressing well is a form of good manners and if you think about it, it's a form of showing respect to others, it's a form that you show respect for the event you're at, and in turn, you will earn more respect from others for that. 7. Dressing Well Makes You Feel Confident & Powerful In turn, that leads to you doing things that you otherwise might not have done if you were dressed down. It could be things like asking your boss for that raise or asking out that woman that you have a crush on. 8. Dressing Down Costs More In The Long Run Yes, t-shirts are inexpensive and so are sweatpants, at the same time, they're usually made of low-quality materials and so they wear out a lot more. 9. You Never Know Who You're Going To Meet A couple of years ago, I was on an airplane flight and when I travel, I always try to dress well, that means I wear a jacket, I wear some chinos, some leather shoes, I wear a bowtie or regular tie, and that really makes me better dressed than 99.9% of people who fly. #notsponsored #dressingdownisoverrated #whyyouneedtodressup --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Do you ever wonder what color goes well with what pattern? I had all of these questions when I started out and I received emails everyday from men asking me about combinations and what to put together. Over the years, I found that the best inspiration for style rules, wardrobe combinations, pattern and color matching came actually from vintage men's fashion illustrations from the 1930's. This was the time when Fred Astaire, Clark Gable and Cary Grant looked their best and I'm certain they were inspired by these illustrations. The use of color, patterns, style and details is really second to none. Over the years, I've spent many hours and countless dollars on putting together a men's clothing library with books and magazines. In order to help you with your outfits, I decided to write a book and selected 79 of the best men's fashion illustrations and put them into a 170 page work called "Gentlemen of the golden age", this is a one of a kind collection that you really cannot find anywhere else. It covers suits, combinations, sport coats, overcoats and leisure. Each illustration comes with an in-depth commentary, historic background and most importantly, I explain how you can use these style principles from the 1930's and make them work for your outfits today. If you're interested in classic men's clothing, you want to get to the next level and really create unique outfit combinations that look good and earn you compliments, this is the right book for you. In this book you will learn the rules of classic men's style, how to build a timeless wardrobe, how to combine colors, and patterns and most importantly, how to look confident and get compliments. 16 Things That Are Better the Old Fashioned Way - Gentleman's Gazette
Some activities & stuff are just better the classic way! Don't you agree? -- http://gentl.mn/old-fashioned-done-right #oldfashioned #gentlemansgazette #notsponsored SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. Midnight Blue and Burgundy Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks - https://gentl.mn/2vyFnmG 4. Eagle Claw Cufflinks with Carnelian Balls - https://gentl.mn/2vvAv0V GUIDES MENTIONED: 1. Cashmere Explained: https://gentl.mn/2upu9w2 2. Handwritten Sentiments: The Gentleman’s Stationery Guide: https://gentl.mn/2u6jV4o We focus on those good old things that are still better and outperform their newer counterparts. 1. Clothes bush Essentially, you should go for a handmade product because it lasts longer, the bristles will stay in, they won't come loose, and on top of that, it's superior to a lint roller. 2. Natural fibers In the 1930s, modern fibers, synthetic fibers became popular and they were the new thing and sometimes you can find them in bespoke garments. 3. Suspenders Sometimes known as braces, they have an advantage over belts in the sense that they hang on your shoulders and as such, you can have your pants a little looser. 4. Good old wooden hanger I know you probably see those plastic ones these days and they are a lot less expensive and you can even get more in your closet, however, having a nice wooden hanger that is matte and that can absorb some sweat and that supports your shoulder is much better for your jacket any day. 5. Fountain pen Most people these days use just a ballpoint pen and that's all they know and that's all they have. With a fine nib and ideally in gold, you create a really nice font, a little more pressure, you get wider lines and slimmer lines which makes your signature fake proof and on top of that, it's just a nicer, cleaner line. 6. Photo album I know most people take pictures with their phones today and it's nice and convenient and you can snap shots that you otherwise would never take, however, having a physical photo album that you can go through with your parents or your loved ones is just a one of a kind experience that can't be replicated on a screen. 7. Cast iron pan Cast iron can be heated to incredibly high temperatures and if you grease them right, they are naturally non-stick. 8. Good old hats The reason being, back in the day, a lot of men wore hats and so they were companies that focused exclusively on the higher end of the market. 9. Getting dressed to go in public I know it's tempting to just wear your sweatpants or your pajamas to go and grab some groceries at the same time, if you have respect for yourself and you show up properly attired or nicely attired, people recognize you for it, they will respect you more. 10. Handwritten notes If you write your condolences because someone died or if you write a thank you card actually using a handwritten note has so much more weight. 11. Have a difficult conversation in person I know it can be tempting to text someone or talk to them over the phone if you are upset with them or maybe use an instant messenger or Facebook to express your discontent, however, in person, what you say can be very different depending on the way you look and how you express yourself and that has a huge impact. 12. Hosting an actual dinner party 13. Using a real camera Not only is it much faster when it comes to auto focus and the speed of shooting but they are also more accurate and because you have a larger sensor, you can separate an object much better. 14. Wet shaving I know electric shavers are quite convenient and they can be handy when you travel, however, if you want a high-quality shave, going with a double edge razor is simply very quick and it gives you great result. 15. Thrifting When it comes to clothes, you can find great finds such as Savile row suits or high-end shirts at a huge markdown, of course, it requires a lot of time, and if you don't have that maybe eBay is a better way to go. #oldfashioned #classic #notsponsored -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most Popular videos: How to accept a compliment - https://youtu.be/_EKXNmM1PUo 101 things that change when you dress up - https://youtu.be/JyGDd_iYaCI How to tie a Bow Tie - https://youtu.be/2I3cfa0BOOc --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Wearing a morning coat is still popular for society weddings in Europe or in England specifically for any kind of wedding and it's mostly underutilized in the US yet, for horse races and other events, you can still wear it. If the dress code says formal day wear, it means the same thing so you wear a morning coat ensemble. Just like black tie and white tie, the morning coat dress code is very detail-oriented and I could spend an hour talking about every little detail. Here, I'll just provide you with the information in a nutshell. So here's a quick rundown. You want a morning coat that is cut away in the front. It's usually in black or in dark grey, kind of a light texture such as herringbone but plain is okay as well. In general, you have peak lapels or notched lapels and it is worn with striped trousers. Usually, they're in colors of black, charcoal, grey, and maybe a fleck of white. Often, they are referred to as cashmere stripe, they're the most popular. You could also go with solid pants if you want to or small patterns such as houndstooth. Just make sure there's enough contrast to the morning coat. With the morning coat, you never wear a belt, but always suspenders, that way everything stays up. You can either wear single-breasted waistcoats or double-breasted ones, I like double breasted ones because they go with the look of the open morning coat, they're a little more special, and that's exactly the right thing when you wear such a unique garment as a morning coat. Traditional colors of the waistcoat include dove gray or buff which is a form of chamois yellow however you can also go with maybe red or blue, it's really up to you and what style you want to set. It's very difficult to find these formal ascots however, it's really fun to wear it especially if you like a vintage look or the most traditional of all looks; and you can find a selection of them in our shop here. If you want to go with a necktie and a classic choice is a tie with silver and black tones, they are also called wedding ties, and again, we have a rich selection of them here. Of course, if you go with a tie, a regular turndown collar shirt with French cuffs is ideal. Button cuffs are always too informal so make sure you could wear cufflinks with it. Other than formal Ascot or a regular tie, you can also go with a bow tie. Again, the same kind of patterns in silver and black are good. If you want to be over-the-top loud, you can also go with something more colorful. For a full selection of wedding bow ties and regular bow ties, as well as regular ties and wedding ties, please check out our shop here. If you want to wear shoes, I suggest you go with plain black shoes such as black cap toe Oxfords, you can also go with Balmoral boots, and ideally, you want to have something with a contrasting insert, maybe in suede or fabric, or it can all be in black. If you want to have a very traditional look, you can also go with button boots made out of black leather and then a contrasting colored insert. You definitely want a white linen pocket square because very classic and dapper as well as a boutonniere either a fresh one or if you can't get that, you can find a selection of them in our shop. It's not obligatory to wear a hat anymore but if you go with a special dress code you might as well go all in and get a top hat. Keep in mind, long tails also require a top hat. A regular Fedora or a Homburg hat would be wrong. Chances are, you'll never see the dress code morning suit but if you do, it means that your waistcoat, your coat, as well as your pants, are made out of the same fabric. #notsponsored #morningdress #morningwear --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? While there are certain similarities between those styles, the real difference is in how the garment's worn. For example, the prep look is more nautical in appearance and more suited to the beach, in Cape Cod, or the Hamptons, that being said, last time I was in Cape Cod, it was really disappointing to see how few people actually dressed properly. Ivy style, on the other hand, is a dressier version that was originally developed in the halls of the Ivy League schools. So what exactly is Ivy style? At the core, they're just two things. On the one hand, it's you wanting to address and represent that you're a member of an Ivy League school. On the other hand, you wanted to be a little bit rebellious maybe against your father who will put on a formal outfit and in that same instance, you would dress down your outfit. So today, one could argue that the differences between Ivy style and prep style are about the degree of formality, yet in reality, it's more about semantics. While Ivy leaguers will opt for penny loafers, prep style followers go for boat shoes. So preps will roll up their pants and wear their shoes without socks as soon as it's warm enough, whereas Ivy Leaguers will usually wear socks and only skip them during the really peak heat of summer. Prep style enthusiasts will rarely wear a full suit instead, they will go with Blazers, sport coats, maybe seersucker pants, Nantucket red chinos, or anything in between. They like to add color and not so much into the suits. Ivy Leaguers, on the other hand, still wear suits about half of the time; usually more casual suits, flannel suits, but they also like tweed jackets and combinations maybe with an elbow patch that gives you a nice old school feel that is still casual yet more formal and maybe a little less colorful than the prep style. So what are typical Ivy style items that you can use in your outfits to get that distinguished look? First of all, I think it's the penny loafer. Introduced by the GH bass shoe company in 1936, it became an instant hit with students. It was particularly popular with the Ivy League undergrads because it was much more casual than an Oxford shoe or derby, at the same time, the ease of just slipping on a loafer paired with a leather texture or even a suede, may be the perfect companion to the formal yet somewhat casual Ivy style. The second classic staple in Ivy style is khaki pants or chinos. We had an extensive guide about chinos which you can check out here but basically, it's pants made out of 100% cotton usually in earthy tones such as khakis, sometimes olive green, shades in between, sand, or stone. Yes, you can also get them in other colors such as Nantucket red or maybe navy but those earthy tones are more typical for the Ivy style. They combine well with a blazer, dress shirt, and a tie, or with a sweater or polo shirt. The third thing to invest in are knit ties. You could either go with silk knit ties in two tones or maybe with a mottled yarn so you have a multitude of colors. The fourth Ivy style item to invest in is a herringbone tweed sport coat. It could either be a color like oatmeal or something like you can see right here next to me. It's a darker mix and it's perfect for the for the fall-winter season. Herringbone is very classic and traditional. It's different and visually more interesting than a solid worsted suit, at the same time, it's not a bold windowpane. It sits right in that sweet spot. Of course, it also has somewhat of a country appeal so people who picked up equestrian sports really liked the fabric. Also, it doesn't wrinkle very much, it's usually cut a little more roomy, always single breasted and never double-breasted, and it's such a perfect staple of the Ivy style wardrobe. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Silk Pocket Square in Brown with Blue Paisley - https://gentl.mn/2kQ12Q8 What is a pinky ring? A ring worn on the fifth finger also known as the pinky finger. Why do men wear rings on their pinky finger and not on their index finger, ring finger or thumb? For most of modern history, men's rings were always a symbol of wealth, social class and your prestige. Often they were worn to make a specific statement such as in a signet ring. Pinky rings today are more of a fashion statement and an expression of your style than they are an association with tradition or to display your social class or status. Additionally pinky rings were made out of solid metal such as solid gold in ten, fourteen or eighteen karat maybe sometimes even nine karat. You could also find them in sterling silver or in platinum. In terms of the shape of the stone or the details for the engravings on the ring the sky is basically the limit. And if you look at my ring collection you can get an idea of what the possibilities are. Every once in a while you see a small diamond in a brilliant cut set to the left and to the right of the center stone which is a very classic look. Stones that are particularly good for pinky rings are turquoise, bloodstone onyx, lapis lazuli, tiger's eye, tourmaline, malachite and star sapphires. So why should you wear a pinky ring? Basically, for the same reason, you wear most of your other clothes and accessories. Simply because you like it and you want to express your own style. Pinky Ring Do's and Don'ts? Don't go with oversized pinky rings Don't mix metals. Don't buy overly ostentatious rings Do match the metal color of your pinky ring --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated?
