In this video, Dr. Berg talks about drinking excess water will do more harm than good. It has been found that there is more damage from overhydration than dehydration. There is very little research that indicates that dehydration is a problem but there is a serious research that shows serious side-effects of overhydration or water intoxication. He also talks about how drinking excessive amounts of water could deplete sodium levels.
Symptoms of Overhydrated:
1. Worsening Headaches
2. Increase Rising Body Temperature
3. Swelling in the Hands and Feet
Drinking excess water will do more harm than good. I wanted to do a video based on this amazing book, it’s called Waterlogged by Tim Noakes, PHD. This guy is the authority of sports medicine, he has PHD actually he has his MD and PHD and Exercise Physiology. What he talks about in this book is fascinating because it goes completely against what we’ve been taught that you have to drink 8 glasses of water every single day and especially if you are exercising, you have to drink a lot of fluid to prevent dehydration. Well this guy has done the research and he found that there is more damage from overhydration especially when you are exercising than dehydration. There has very little research that indicates that dehydration is a problem. But there is a serious that showing the serious side-effects of overhydration or what is called water intoxication. Now if you are doing an exercise especially long distance running or marathons, this information is vital because what happens when you are drinking excessive amounts of fluid, you can deplete your sodium levels and what happen is the brain can swell, it put tremendous amount of stress in the heart and people have actually died from drinking too much water the condition is called Hyponatremia. So let’s say for example you are exercising and you wanted to know if you are overhydrated. Here are some of the symptoms. If you have a worsening headache, do you have an increase rising temperature even when you stop exercising, swelling in the hands and the feet. All of these could indicate that you just drink too much water. So the body has this amazing way of letting you know when you need water, so you're ready for this? are you sitting down? If you checked out, check back in right now because this is very important, its called Thirst. So when you're thirsty, drink more water. When you are not thirsty, don't drink water.
