Warship vs Big Waves-1
This channel contains a selection of videos I have enjoyed in YouTube, as we all do and they represent nothing but my personal "taste". The video clips showing the rough seas is to remind us who served at seas, the days we were sailing indeed like Ulysses, in the "arms" of Poseidon, some times in calm, some times in storms we now realize how exactly it was... When you are onboard you only see "waters" bellow, in all the sides and "above"... and you let your body fight with the Gs. Sometimes the ship is falling down the waves and leaves you floating on the air, and then is coming back, under your feet and makes you feel 10 times heavier... not to mention the rolling and pitching. For "endless" hours, you go wave by wave, counting for the "big" one... 1, 2, 3 ,..... 7 and again and again. The sea is never an "enemy" to fear. It only needs to be respected. This challenge, this "rough play" is what makes us to love her for ever, even if -some times-she gets away to Hades (Poseidon's brother, not by coincidence), some of our beloved ones... that's the special about navy guys... "los vivos, los muertos y los barcados" ! PS: Nothing in this "playlist" is my "intellectual property". I have only included and am sharing these collection of videos with friends and colleagues with every respect to the actual contributors (Marine Nationale) who deserve every acknowledgment. Pls read the credits and see the people who created it). And since many of the viewers are asking about the music, I believe it is from Soundiva Music-WOW (google it).

USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) slammed by giant wave during typhoon
This is a clip from the bridge of the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) aircraft carrier on its way home to Yokosuka Naval Base Japan during a typhoon. My dad was on board this ship as they passed through the storm (that's how I got this footage but it was not shot by him). As they left the storm the damage to the ship was hard to miss. The starboard side cat walk on the bow was heavily damaged and the safety netting ripped clear off. I do not own this film, it was shot in 2008 ish and i received this film from my Dad shortly after his return home. ( the USS Kitty Hawk is now retired from active service)

One Year on Mars: HI-SEAS Mission IV | Carmel Johnston | TEDxCharlottesville
Carmel Johnston spent a year on mars - well, sort of. In this talk we hear about her experience commanding a team through a simulated year on Mars, the lessons she's learned, and the ways we can ensure a bright future. Carmel Johnston recently finished serving as the Commander of the Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation where she and five other people lived in complete isolation for an entire year. With a Masters of Science in Land Resources and Environmental Sciences from Montana State University, she was able to apply her passion for science and sustainable living to growing fresh vegetable for the crew. Now that she is out of the dome, she is taking full advantage of being able to run, hike, swim, and play outside in her hometown in Montana while training for a full Ironman. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

What is FREEDOM OF THE SEAS? What does FREEDOM OF THE SEAS mean? FREEDOM OF THE SEAS meaning - FREEDOM OF THE SEAS definition - FREEDOM OF THE SEAS explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Freedom of the seas (Latin: mare liberum, lit. "free sea") is a principle in the international law and law of the sea. It stresses freedom to navigate the oceans. It also disapproves of war fought in water. The freedom is to be breached only in a necessary international agreement. This principle was one of U.S. President Woodrow Wilson's Fourteen Points proposed during the First World War. In his speech to the Congress, the president said: Absolute freedom of navigation upon the seas, outside territorial waters, alike in peace and in war, except as the seas may be closed in whole or in part by international action for the enforcement of international covenants. The United States' allies Britain and France were opposed to this point, as France was also a considerable naval power at the time. As with Wilson's other points, freedom of the seas was rejected by the German government. Today, the concept of "freedom of the seas" can be found in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea under Article 87(1) which states: "the high seas are open to all states, whether coastal or land-locked." Article 87(1) (a) to (f) gives a non-exhaustive list of freedoms including navigation, overflight, the laying of submarine cables, building artificial islands, fishing and scientific research. In 1609, Dutch jurist and philosopy Hugo Grotius wrote what is considered the foundation of the international legal doctrine regarding the seas and oceans – Mare Liberum, a Latin title that translates to "freedom of the seas". While it is generally assumed that Grotius first propounded the principle of freedom of the seas, countries in the Indian Ocean and other Asian seas accepted the right of unobstructed navigation long before Grotius wrote his De Jure Praedae (On the Law of Spoils) in the year of 1604. Previously, in the 16th century, Spanish theologian Francisco de Vitoria postulated the idea of freedom of the seas in a more rudimentary fashion under the principles of jus gentium. During World War II, nations started to expand and claim many resources and water territories all over their surrounding coasts. There were four international treaties meticulously drafted in the late 1950s and onto the 1970s, but the issues were not resolved between nations until 1982 when the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea was introduced. UNCLOS is a Law of the Sea treaty: an agreement of rights and responsibilities of nations and their use of the world’s ocean with guidelines of trade, environment, and the management of marine and open seas resources. UNCLOS replaced the four international treaties drafted in the late 50’s through 70's. As of 2013, 165 countries and the European Union have joined the Convention. According to International law, Article 92 of the convention which describes ships shall sail under the flag of one state only and, save in exceptional cases expressly provided for in international treaties or in this Convention, shall be subject to its exclusive jurisdiction on the high seas; however, when a ship is involved in certain criminal acts, such as piracy, any nation can exercise jurisdiction under the doctrine of universal jurisdiction. High seas were defined as any part of the sea that was not either territorial sea or internal waters, territorial waters and exclusive economic zones. Article 88 of the 1982 Convention states that the high seas shall be reserved for peaceful purpose. Many countries engage in military maneuvers and the testing of conventional weapons and nuclear weapons on the high seas. In order to deliver the right punishment to the right person or state, the ships need to be registered to a country to show proof of ownership. The owner of the vessel sometimes prefers to pay the lower registration fees by picking countries such as Panama, Bermuda, Italy, Malta and the Netherlands. According to Cruise Lines International Association, 90% of commercial vessels calling on U.S. ports fly foreign flags. To avoid the high cost with more rules and regulations, ships and tankers sometime prefer lower cost registration with a lower standard of inspection and regulation by picking a country that exercises less control over their registered ships, though many ships are owned by individuals or companies in another country (most commonly Japan and Greece) under a system called 'flag of convenience'. Registering a ship in Panama means that the ship is governed by the maritime rules of Panama rather than the ship owner's country.

Salton Sea in 24 hours: Exploring the Area's Best Hikes, Food & Strange Attractions Salton Sea is a strange and unique place in Southern California that was once a resort area for celebrities but has now become somewhat of a wasteland. Many people don't take the time to explore it because of that, but I always recommend giving it a chance as there are a lot of fun things to see and do. Don't go in the summer though as it can be incredibly hot. Here are my recommendations for 24 hours spent at the Salton Sea. The stern is coming up (observe the HUD) in a high sea state, the whole deck will also be heaving, the AOA will become too high because of the deck pitch and the hook will be too low when rear wheels hit the deck, the arresting hook scraping the deck before wire #1 and then floating when nose gear also on the deck (at least that would be RL, but the hook here can be seen as if scraping the deck, which isn't correctly RL visual modelling, but then again the hook not catching a wire, which is correct DCS modelling).

Temple in the sea? Bhavnagar
At Koliyak, a village at the Bhavnagar district in the Gujarat state of India, people reach out to the Shiva temple about 1.5 kilometers into the sea. In this historic place, Pandavas, the heroic brothers worshipped the lingas that are symbolic of Lord Shiva after the fierce battle in which they killed their evil cousins as narrated in the epic Mahabharat. Think of a temple in the weirdest of places. Under the sea. But then, the Hindus have built their temples over the hills and mountains, inside the caves, at the sea shore, near the water falls...where ever nature reveals itself in all its grandeur and pristine beauty. The temple I am talking about is Nishkalank Mahadev's temple (Nishkalank -- blemish-less or sinless; Mahadev -- Lord Shiva), and it is under water during high tides in the sea and emerges during low tides to reveal itself majestically, promising its devotees to wash away all sins. As it did for the Pandavas in the epic Mahabharata, when they wanted to atone for the sin of killing their brethren, even though they were all evil incarnated. The temple is located in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat state in India. From the beach along the Arabian Sea, you'd have to traverse 1.5 km into the interior. There are the five Shiva lingas that the five Pandava brothers worshipped, along with Shiva's vehicle Nandi, or the Bull. Many people come here to dissolve ashes of their departed kith and kin. The day after the New Moon day, the sea recedes to the maximum, and hundreds of people including children walk the distance and worship the idols. The New Moon day that comes in August and corresponds to the Hindu calendar month of Bhadra is of special importance, and people throng here in large numbers.
