We take you step by step from sanitizing to fermenting or what you typically would expect on a normal brew day. We use our set up but don't think you need the equipment we use. We give you a basic list of equipment in the video along with tips and things to look out for when brewing your first extract kit. Remember every kit is different but most kits follow along the same guidelines or steps that we talk about in this video. I'm making 1 gallon of beer using only normal kitchen utensils and equipment and ingredients supplied with the Brooklyn Brewshop Brewdog Punk IPA kit. I stuck to the recipe and the result was incredible, however, with a few tweaks such as dry hopping I think it could be even better. Although expensive to buy initially, refills can be put together for between £5 to £10 with an unlimited number of recipes ! Start making your own beer and you'll never look back.. We brewed up a ten gallon batch of Bell's Oberon from Bell's own recipe, as published in BYO Magazine, and split it into two five gallon batches; one fermented with Safale US-05 yeast and the other with Bell's house yeast that I cultured from a couple bottles of Oberon. We tasted all three (both yeast clones and the real deal) to compare flavor differences between them. I also share the recipe. Brooklyn Brew Shop recently visited the Odell Brewing Company in Fort Collins, Co. to talk with its head of production, Brendan McGivney, about the near completion of the brewery's new expansion. Odell's one goal is to make consistently great beer. They do this by staying small and using the best ingredients available to them while keeping the process highly environmentally responsible. In limited production, their Bourbon Barrel Stout was recently named one of Draft Magazine's Best Beers of 2009. With plenty of domestic and international beer medals under their belt as well as a commendation for being one of the best business to work for in Colorado, one of their bottles is worth the airfare. You will find all the answers to your questions on our website http://www.gallonbrewing.com but feel free to ask us if anything is unclear Update: you actually don't need to worry about sanitization until the end of the boil We have a new and better procedure for sparging on this page http://www.gallonbrewing.com/brewing/small-batch-beer#sparge-gallon-homebrew Make sure you calculate the amount of priming sugar for your beer as it varies from one recipe to another Here is a good calculator http://www.northernbrewer.com/priming-sugar-calculator You can use sugar instead of honey, it's actually cheaper and easier to dissolve If you are interested in using the BIAB (Brew-in-a-Bag) method for small batches, we have this as well http://www.gallonbrewing.com/brewing/1-gallon-biab-small-batch-brew-bag There's actually a better fermenter than a glass jug, 1-gallon food grade plastic buckets, check it out http://www.gallonbrewing.com/equipment/1-gallon-plastic-beer-fermenter Feel free to follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/antonybeuhnoix

Hops bring balance and strong aromas to beer and make them beautifully bitter, but how much do you know about the plants themselves? On this Episode of Beer By The Numbers we examine the great vine that makes beer better and last longer. Cheers Beer Nerds! This video shows how I grow my own hops and brew beer using an all-grain brewing process. It focuses mainly on a Raspberry Amber Ale but also shows a Vanilla Porter that I brewed at the same time. See http://BrainRight.com/Beer/RaspberryAmber for the recipes.
