It's time to get Bigger, Wider Shoulders - http://athleanx.com/x/biggerwidershoulders Did you know that bigger, wider shoulders is one of the muscle groups listed at the top of the list when Men's Health Magazine polled women to see what turned them on the most in guys? Shocked me. I thought abs, and arms would easily top those...but they didn't. The reason why is because a set of powerful explosive shoulders frames your entire physique and lets people know that you're in shape and strong without having to say a word. All that said, the problem that most guys face when trying to get big shoulders is that they feel as if the only way to get them is by doing countless reps of heavy military presses. This isn't the only way. In fact, using one of the most popular shoulder exercises but also one of the most incorrectly performed, you can start adding size to your shoulders in as little as 14 days! The ability to get bigger shoulders and add muscle mass to your shoulders in 14 days comes from the principle of muscle overload. By incorporating the cheat side lateral exercise you can add significant weight to the exercise and as a result, size to your shoulders much more quickly. The trick is to not swing the weight up, but make sure that you muscle it up. From the top of the movement, you want to be sure that you slowly lower the weight down, concentrating on the eccentric part of the exercise to ensure that the deltoid is getting the brunt of the work. Continue to perform as many reps as you can until failure and incorporate this technique into your shoulder workout each time you perform it. You actually can see a difference in your shoulder size after even just one of these workouts. Not from actual shoulder muscle growth but more from the lingering pump that you will experience (not very common when doing shoulder workouts!) by training the muscles the right way. Today I want to go over 8 of the best exercises that are going to help you develop a wider back faster, and I'm also going to go over certain training techniques that you should incorporate, to make your back bigger in terms of both width and thickness. At the end I'll also show you how many sets and reps you'll need to do to incorporate these exercises into a workout. As we go through these keep in mind that to effectively build a bigger back you'll want to do 3 things for all of these exercises. First you need to concentrate on actually targeting your back instead of your biceps, triceps, or forearms. It will take some time develop the neuromuscular connection between your brain and your back, but for all of these exercises you're going to want to try to pull the weight with your elbows not your hands, and really squeeze your back with each rep as if you're trying to hold a pencil in between your shoulder blades. Second you'll need to progressively overload all of these exercises over time. The best way to do that is by trying to always incrementally increase the weight load you're using for all your back exercises as you get stronger. And the third thing you'll want to do is come to full extension and get a really good stretch at the negative portion of all your pulling movements. Now, let's start with the first exercise, the long angle dumbbell row. This is a variation of a regular dumbbell row and even though it's extremely effective, it's a shame that most people don't even know this exercise exists. To perform this exercise start by leaning against something lower than waist level. You want to bend down until your back is almost parallel with the ground. Grab a dumbbell with your other hand in a neutral position and let it hang straight down. Pull your shoulder blades back and stick your chest out to maintain a neutral spine. Now instead of pulling the dumbbell in towards your belly button like you would a regular row, I want you to aim to pull the dumbbell back towards your hips, like you're trying to put the dumbbell in your pocket, and then bring it back down to the hanging position and repeat for reps. This is going to take your biceps almost completely out of the movement and put all the tension on your back, your lats, and the back of your shoulder. Keep in mind you'll need to use a lighter weight then you would with regular dumbbell rows. I know that you might have never seen this exercise before, but trust me try it, you'll be feeling parts of your back working that you never knew existed. Next up are close grip and wide grip pullups. Both grips will provide unique benefits for your back. A wide grip will recruit much more of your lower lats and it'll take a lot of your bicep strength out of the movement. To start you'll want to grab a pullup bar with your hands facing away from you, and your grip set fairly wider than your shoulders so that you're body resembles a "Y" shape. Next, hang straight down so that your arms are fully extended. While keeping your chest out and your shoulders pulled back pull yourself up concentrating on pulling up with your elbows until your chin clears the bar. Try to think about keeping your elbows behind you the whole way up, and squeeze at the top before lowering yourself back down to a fully extended position and repeating for reps. With close grip pull ups everything remains the same except you'll want to grab the bar with your hands set shoulder width apart or even a little closer together. Because you're taking a closer grip you'll be able to incorporate more of your biceps and a little bit of your pecs into the exercise allowing you to do more reps or more weight. It'll also help you hit your inner lats. Remember to strap weight to your body once you start getting stronger, and if pullups are too difficult for you right now then you can use resistance bands to assist you on your way up. Moving on we have the standing cable pullover. Here you'll want to set your cable cross machine at its highest point and grab a straight bar with a grip about 6 inches wider than shoulder width. Keep your arms straight and a maintain a slight bend at your elbows. Bend forward to give yourself a longer range of motion, and step back with the weight to remove all slack. While keeping your shoulder blades back and your arms straight, bring the bar down until it meets your hips, then control it on the way back up and repeat for reps....

How To Get WIDER Shoulders (3 Training Mistakes You’re Probably Making)

Wider, broader looking shoulders are one of the most sought after bodily features that most men aim to achieve. This is likely because wider shoulders not only accentuate a powerful looking upper body, but bigger shoulders also create the appearance of a smaller waist as a result. And although genetics will play some role in how wide your shoulders appear, you can definitely add further width to them by targeting the lateral deltoids with proper shoulder exercises and wider shoulder workouts. Given that the lateral deltoids comprise the middle portion of your shoulders, adding more size to them will create the effect of wider looking shoulders. However, even if you choose the right broad shoulder workout, you want to make sure you are performing them optimally in order to see the best results. In this video I go through 3 of the most common shoulder training mistakes preventing people from getting bigger shoulders. First, you want to ensure you’re varying the resistance curve applied to your shoulders during your shoulder workouts. This is done by choosing the right shoulder exercises. Rather than exclusively sticking to dumbbell lateral raises, incorporate some cable lateral raises since the cables enable tension to be applied to the shoulder throughout the whole range of motion. You can rotate between the two shoulder exercises throughout the week and/or perform both exercises during your shoulder training. Next, you want to ensure that during the lateral raise that you’re not leading with your hands. At the top position, if your hands are higher than your elbows then you’re performing more external rotation which isn’t the main function of the shoulder and is instead involves more of the rotator cuff. To fix this, simply think about driving up with your elbows and having your hands stay inline with the elbow at the top position. Lastly, during your shoulder exercises you need to make sure that you’re not letting the traps takeover the movement as you perform them. For example, during the overhead shoulder press or lateral raise, as you lift the weight up you want to make sure your shoulders aren’t shrugging up and tensing at the upper traps as you do so. Instead, keep the upper traps relaxed and pulled down before and throughout the movement. As I say quite often, if you want to see the best results then it’s vital that you choose the right exercises and variations. But, even more importantly is that you apply them correctly within your routine. Shoulder to waist ratio is one of the most aesthetically pleasing attributes. But you first need to understand which muscle to be targeting when you are trying to accomplish this.. And this muscle is the lateral/medial head of your deltoid. 9 times out of 10, when I see guys doing exercises to build their medial head, such as lateral raises, I see issues. And these issues may be the reason for their shoulder pain, or even overdeveloped traps. So the first thing you gotta stop doing is allowing the weight to come down and in front of you. This will prevent you from working the supraspinatus muscle, which will minimize risk of rotator cuff pain, and will also increase the amount of time under tension for the correct muscle. After that, you want to stop shrugging. Too many times, guys (and girls) are using weights that are WAY too heavy for themselves. The delts are a small muscles.. they don't need a lot of weight to be worked. Wide ones will attract the eyes to your shoulders, and this is what we are trying to avoid in your case. - Choose thick straps over spaghetti straps (the very thin ones) - As for t-shirts, diagonal sleeves are better at camouflaging the width of your shoulders than straight ones (as shown in the video) - Dolman sleeves are another good option for you. The advantage of these sleeves lies in them being lose and not padded. Great choice if you ask me! But be aware of the width of your round neck, always avoid wide necks! - If you are a blazer-kind-of-person, opt for blazers with slim lapels. Wider lapels will bring all the attention to your shoulders. Also, avoid blazers with shoulder pads (you can remove them with the help of a tailor if they are already there). In this video, we will talk about the three basic body types namely the Ectomorph, the Mesomorph and the Endomorph. My idea of making this video is that you get to identify which of these body types you fall under and accordingly what kind of workout and what kind of diet is best suited to you. So that you get the best possible results. #1 Body Type - ECTOMORPH - 00:27 Ectomorphs are the typical hardgainers. They tend of narrow shoulders, small frame and overall a skinny look. Ectomorphs find it really difficult to gain weight or put on muscle mass. They naturally have a very low body fat percentage. #2 Body Type - MESOMORPH - 02:30 Mesomorph is probably the best body type to be a part of. They naturally have a symmetrical build, wide shoulders, narrow waist. A mesomorph finds it quite easy to put on muscle. Also they tend to lose body fat quite effectively. Mesomorphs are generally quite muscular and bodybuilding comes naturally to them. #3 Body Type - ENDOMORPH - 03:22 They have a soft round build. They tend to put on fat very easily because of which they generally struggle to lose weight. So these were the 3 basic body types. Now, just because we have talked about three body types, it doesn’t mean that you have to fit completely into one of these. You can easily be a combination of ectomorph and mesomorph or endomorph and mesomorph. But essentially the idea was to help you understand what your body type is. In this video, I show you an advanced shoulder exercise that you can put into your very next shoulder workout. The use of spontaneous eccentrics is something that you can do with just a single dumbbell. The side lateral delt raise is one of the easiest exercises to incorporate this with. Simply take a dumbbell and position yourself as you would during a side delt raise. Instead of just raising the weight up and lowering the weight in control, explosively accelerate the weight up and release it ever so slightly at the top of the rep. Once you do, immediately try and regrip the dumbbell as it begins to fall towards the ground. The moment your grip is reestablished, your delts will be demanded to fire eccentrically to slow the descent of the dumbbell. This intense shoulder contraction is one you likely haven't experienced under normal training conditions. It is this type of advanced shoulder training that will help you to start seeing results faster. Getting bigger and wider shoulders is something that most guys put at the top of their wish list. Part of the reason is the fact that most women state that seeing wider shoulders on men makes them more attractive. Build Huge Shoulders WITHOUT Weights! (Front, Middle, Rear)

In this video, I’m going to show you how to build bigger front delts, middle delts and rear deltoids without using any weight at all. Too often, we find ourselves thinking that weights are the only way to build big shoulders. That isn’t the case. If you have the bodyweight exercises for delts in your arsenal you will be able to get the job done even when you’re not training in a gym. To start, you have to understand the concept of relative motion. It isn’t always necessary to focus on the moving limb during an exercise to see what part of the shoulder it is working. For instance, when you perform a side lateral raise you are moving your arm away from your body while holding onto a dumbbell. What is really going on is abduction at the shoulder joint. If you apply this same move to an immovable floor however, you can get the same thing to happen at the joint. You can get resisted abduction to occur by rotating your body away from the arm that is fixed on the floor. Look closely and you will see that the same amount of abduction is occuring in the shoulder and that the muscles of the middle delt are working to accomplish this just as they would be in standing. Just because the arm isn’t actively moving away from the body doesn’t mean that you cannot get the same effect. Simply move your body away from your arm and your middle delts will be on fire and you will have a new way to build huge shoulders without always needing to rely on dumbbells or heavy weights. Next, you can apply the same concept to your front delts. Now the front deltoids are commonly worked in many popular shoulder exercises and even non-shoulder exercises. The important thing is to look at the motion of the arm is it is raised out in front of the body and overhead. This same movement pattern can be replicated into a bodyweight equivalent with the exercise I show you here called the pushaway press. Here, you are using the fixed floor once again to serve as the resistance for your shoulders to push and contract against to propel your body backwards in the opposite direction. Again, the same pattern is happening in the front delts and the motion at the shoulder joint is the same. The resistance is determined by how low you position your body to the floor. Either way, you will quickly see that you do not need weights to build big shoulders if you start using this shoulder exercise. Finally, you can apply the same concept to building your rear delts as well. Normally, the reverse dumbbell fly is the standard exercise of choice when building up the back of your shoulder. Again, this exercise depends on using weights. What if you don’t have access to them however and still want to get huge shoulders? Enter the reverse iron cross. Lay down on your back on the floor with your arms outstretched and your fists pushing into the ground. Lift your back up off the floor just far enough to clear your upper traps and elbows. The thing that people dont realize about the V taper is that is all about proportions.
