How to use Knit Stay Tape and what it does
Read more about Knit Stay Tape in this article - http://so-sew-easy.com/how-and-where-to-use-knit-stay-tape When and why to use a knit stay tape 1. On stretch fabrics, or could also be used to stabilize a bias seam on a woven or delicate fabric too where some 'give' is needed. 2. Use to prevent stretching or give the stretched fabric a bit of support and rebound. 3. To create a nice sharp edge when it might otherwise be difficult to do this on a knit, because they often don't press well. 4. In the shoulder seam to prevent long arms from dragging the seams down. 5. Around the hemline to make it easier to sew. 6. Along necklines and other fabric edges. 7. To prevent difficult to work with knits from curling at the edges.

Join more than 10 million passionate makers on Craftsy, where you can access expert instruction, supplies, patterns, and endless inspiration to help you make more of what you love. In this video ------------------------------ An invisible or concealed zipper can really give your garment a professional edge. And it's easier to sew than you think! Hi, I’m Angela Wolf! Let me show you my foolproof way to sew an invisible zipper. Here I have an invisible zipper 2, two pieces of fusible interfacing and the skirt pieces. Choose a zipper that's 2 inches longer than the opening. First, stabilize the seam where the zipper is going to be inserted My fusible interfacing is cut about an inch longer than the zipper opening and is wide enough to cover the seam allowance and another half of an inch. I'm trimming one side of the interfacing with pinking shears to prevent it from showing through on the right side of the garment - that's an especially good tip for lighter weight fabric. Line up the interfacing along the top and side raw edges, and press by holding the iron for about 3 to 5 seconds, lifting and pressing. Next, prepare the zipper by pressing the zipper teeth away from the zipper tape. Make sure your iron is at a lower setting, (you don’t want to melt the zipper! ) And just quickly press, see how this fold opens? – this make it much easier to sew! Now - take a look at this handy line here on the zipper tape - that will be good guide for you to follow with the needle when you come to sew Here are both pieces of fabric - and my zipper. Start with your zipper closed, this will hopefully stop you from sewing it in backwards. Flip the zipper with the right side facing the right side of the fabric. Insert one pin to keep the zipper lined up and now unzip the zipper all the way Line up the zipper tape inside the edge of the seam allowance. You want those zipper teeth to land right on the seam. So if your pattern calls for half-inch seam allowances you would line up your zipper right here. This is an invisible zipper foot, which makes it real simple to sew. / See these grooves underneath the foot? ...they line up with the zipper teeth and glide right along that edge as your needle goes through the hole. you can also use a standard zipper foot, the difference is the foot will glide along the edge of the zipper teeth like this. Line up the standard zipper foot with the needle right next to the zipper teeth, using that handy line as your guide and stitch. This snip represents the bottom of my zipper opening, back-stitch and one side is finished. Zip up your zipper and find that snip - now with a fabric marker make a mark across from the last stitch - this will show you where to end your stitches. Well done! Take a bow! - or take a break - then start on the other side! Now turn the edge of the second piece of fabric right side toward the right side of the zipper, pin it in place, and open the zipper all the way past the last stitch. Flip the fabric, remove that pin and start pinning the tape in place Pushing the finished side of the zipper out of the way, you're now going to stitch down this side. Just put a couple pins in here Change the zipper foot to the other side, line up the needle right next to the zipper teeth, and stitch. When you get to the the mark representing the last stitch, back stitch It is very important that the stitches on each side of the zipper tape are even right here. If they're not, go back and stitch a few more stitches on the shorter side close the rest of the seam. Place a pin along the seam allowance underneath the zipper tape, push the zipper tape out of the way as much as possible. Add another pin. Back at the sewing machine line up your needle here, starting a quarter of an inch above the last stitch, just on the inside of this stitch line. Push the zipper tape out of the way, back stitch twice and stitch. Switch to a standard presser foot and starting on that last stitch, sew the rest of your seam closed So let’s take a look at our finished zipper! See how neat the seam below looks? And on the right side you can hardly see the zipper teeth, which is perfect since it’s an invisible zipper! That’s how easy it is to insert one!

DIY Socks #2 (side seam method)
Learn how to make your own socks WITHOUT a middle seam! I had a few comments on my last video wondering if the seam down the middle was uncomfortable. Well, I didn't find it to be at all uncomfortable BUT I think that it's a little bit ugly (unless you were using a dark fabric!) Last video (5-Minute Sock Method): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp5PE939_4I So this method shows you how to make socks with side seams rather than middle seams. It takes longer, but if you want socks which are more than purely functional, then you might want to give this method a go! You can still use an old t-shirt for this, or any other stretchy fabric. You will need: - A sewing machine - Stretchy fabric - Pins - Thread - Scissors - Thin elastic - A safety pin Music used is Night Owl by Broke for Free (Creative Commons 3.0 BY) http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Broke_For_Free/Directionless_EP/Broke_For_Free_-_Directionless_EP_-_01_Night_Owl CAMERA: Canon EOS60D Microphone: Inbuilt Editing software: Final Cut Pro 10.2.1 Sewing Machine: Bernina Bernette Oxford 6 and Bernette 610D (overlocker) Find me elsewhere on the internet! β–Ί BLOG http://www.pineneedlecollective.com/ β–Ί INSTAGRAM http://instagram.com/littlepineneedle β–Ί TWITTER https://twitter.com/littlepinetree3 β–Ί FACEBOOK https://www.facebook.com/PineneedleCollective β–Ί PINTEREST http://www.pinterest.com/littlepinetree3/ Help us caption & translate this video! https://amara.org/v/hXOS/

Machine Embroidery Tips: Which Type of Stabilizer Do I Use for my Embroidery?
What is stabilizer? Stabilizer is a material used to stabilize fabric so it doesn't slip or pucker in the embroidery hoop. In this tutorial, I'm featuring (non-fusible) tear away stabilizer, cut away stabilizer, and wash away stabilizer. DIY: 2 Piece Exercise Wear w/elastic , from a T-Shirt! (easy shorts pattern)
Watch in HD! SUBSCRIBE if you like! What do you want to see me make next? Leave your suggestions in the comment section! How to attach elastic ---- Skip to 2:30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lSNUKyUEmU For this project I decided to make a shorts pattern from scratch (my 1st time actually) so that there was a distinct front & back (with the back being longer since your bottom is bigger than your front) but to make it easier you can just fold the shorts completely in half to make the pattern which is how I usually make shorts. (Let me know if you want a quick video on how to make shorts the easier way) I decided against folding over raw edges & hemming along the neckline & arm holes but you can sew those areas if you please. I didn't have to hem the thigh holes since I cut the shorts out from the very bottom of the shirt which is already hemmed. I used a T-Shirt since thats what I had at the moment but I would recommend using spandex/swimsuit material for an exercise outfit. It's much more comfortable & not slightly see through like the shirt is. Right sides: The sides of the material that will be showing when you wear the garment. An easy way to know the right side of a T-shirt after cutting (for the bottoms at least) is the hem. On one side you will see two straight stitches (which indicates the right side) & on the other you will see a bunch of stitches going over & through one another (which indicates the wrong side/inside of the garment). All materials purchased from Jo-Ann! Hope the extra info helped! Camera- Canon Rebel T3i http://amzn.to/1NZNz0I Keep up with me! My first drafted pattern dress
So I set a challenge for myself and that was to make all my clothes, well majority of them for my vacation. Pretty much what I did was take a tank top trace that, drafted a pencil skirt pattern and taped the two together. I did all this using tissue paper used for gift wrapping. It wasn't too difficult unless math isn't your thing. But all in all its doable. DIY "Half Circle Skirt" Tutorial (with zipper!) plus 3 ways to hem a skirt
Support me on Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/annikavictoria What's the difference between this and a full-circle skirt? A half circle-skirt has *half* the amount of fabric. While still providing a really nice flared shape and a good amount of twirl, it's also more practical to wear in everyday outfits (and it doesn't blow right up at the slightest hint of a breeze like full circle skirts do). Don't get me wrong, I still love a full-blown circle skirt, but the half circle-skirt is a bit more subtle and versatile. Enjoy the video! Some tips to help make your skirt look even more professional: "1- Always cut the waistband on [the] bias! This will allow the fabric to snug around your waist more comfortably due to the extra stretch. 2- for a long-lasting waistband, apply some light interfacing on one of the two parts of the waistband itself. I always do that, it's really a big difference especially if you wear the skirt a lot, the waistband may become floppy and shapeless or even roll down on itself when you bend forward." Join more than 10 million passionate makers on Craftsy, where you can access expert instruction, supplies, patterns, and endless inspiration to help you make more of what you love. In this video ------------------------------ Sewing custom pillow cases for your bed is super simple! I'll walk you through how to do it in this quick video. Wait until you see how easy making pillowcases can be! I have chosen cotton fabric for the pillow case. Cotton is soft, durable, and breathable - just be sure to wash and dry the fabric before you cut, as cotton has a tendency to shrink. Measure the pillow you are covering to create a pattern - my pillow is 20" by 30" (OC) We need to add room for the seam allowances and the top finished edge. So I'm going to cut my fabric to 21" wide, leaving room for 1/2" seam allowances, and 41" long because I added 11" to the length to make the nice finished fold at the opening of the pillow. Cut 2 of these. To get started, I am going to mark the fold area with tailor's chalk. Mark 1" from the edge, and make one more marking 6" from the edge Fold at the 6" mark toward the wrong side of the fabric and press. Then tuck under at the 1" mark and press again. Now, follow those same steps for the second piece of fabric. Unfold your fabric, and line it up at all corners and pressing lines. With right sides facing each other, pin the pillowcase pieces together along these 3 unfinished edges. Now we are going to stitch around those three sides using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. I am using contrasting thread so you can see the stitches better, but you would use matching thread. Backstitching at the start, stitch until you get to the first corner. Make sure the needle is all the way down, lift the presser foot and turn the fabric, lower the presser foot and continue stitching around these 2 edges. Finish the seam allowances with a zigzag or overlock stitch on the sewing machine. Turn the pressed folds toward the wrong side of the fabric, making sure to line up the side seams, and pin Stitch 1/8" away from the folded edge . Turn the pillowcase to the right side. Give this crease one more pressing and turn back the fold toward the right side of the pillow at just about 4" and press. Now line up and tack the side seams by stitching back and forth along the seam line. This will keep the fold in place. Put your pillow inside, and that's it! You have a custom pillow case!
