I wish I could make you understand that you’re perfect, just by being you, and I’d tell you that every single day, till you start to believe it too, And I mean it, I just wish you knew just how much I adore you, How I love that even when you’re going through some of your toughest times, you still put all of your energy into putting on a smile and acting like everything’s fine. Or how I think you’re brave, intelligent, gentle, kind, how you’re going to change the world someday with that incredible mind. I hate seeing you cry, because every time you look in the mirror you see something you don’t like, and I hate how much it hurts you every single time, I wish I could take your pain away, make you see what I see, and then maybe you’d change your mind, I hate watching you beat yourself up all the time, When are you going to realise that this ongoing battle you have with yourself, it’s a losing fight, You’re literally destroying yourself from the inside. Trying so hard to be something you’re not, when you’re already perfectly fine. You’re a beautiful, walking, human sunshine in my eyes. You keep comparing yourself to others, when are you going to understand that being yourself is enough, You keep seeking validation from other people, When, what you really need, is self love, Yes I know you don’t have the perfect body, reality check, most people don’t, So what’s the use in tearing yourself apart like this? If you think it’s going to help you in anyway, well let me be the first to tell you - it won’t. I’ll never understand how someone so great, can think so little about themselves, I watch you, unable to leave the house without make up struggling to cope everyday, and I just wanna be able to help. You’ve reduced yourself to ugly, you hide behind baggy clothes, watch what you eat, Care so much about what people think that you can’t even walk down the street, self hate has filtered it’s way into every inch of your body, and it kills me, to see someone I care about, be so incredibly unhappy. I hope one day you can look in the mirror and live with what you see, that it doesn’t hurt you so much anymore, cos you understand that you’ve got more to offer to the world than simply being pretty, No longer haunted by the scars on your skin, but fights to be the change they want to see. but more importantly, Right now, in this moment, I want you to know, just how incredibly perfect you are to me.

I was thirteen the first time I was embarrassed about my body of course it would not be the last and I remember stuffing my bra in the morning with tears stinging my eyes hoping, praying to something that I could look beautiful enough today, braces and all, for the ruthless boys who mercilessly told me I was worthless because my boobs weren't big enough and I would go home and put on a sweatshirt with my eyes closed, deny myself the right to be shown myself, because I didn't dare want to insinuate beauty in regards to something so insulting as my body. But I mean we all end up with our heads between our knees because the only place we'll ever truly feel safe is curled up inside skin we've been taught to hate by a society that shuns our awful confidence and feeds us our own flaws and sometimes when I need to meet the me that loves me, I can't find her, a reminder that the mirror is meant to be a curse so I confine her in my mind but when he or she shouts let me out we're allowed to listen. But it's met by a chorus of conceited egotistical narcissist but since when was self-solicitude a sin? since when was loving who we are made an offense by morons that don't matter change this physicality and that one, don't you shatter the illusion you could ever be anything beyond paper fine flesh and flashy teeth and fingernails echoic accusations of not good enough, never good enough have you ever felt so numb that it hurts entertain me whore you can't surrender to them you gotta remember you're the only thing you'll ever truly have and no I don't mean your body because someday it'll go bad no matter what you do I mean you I mean the way your bright eyes go wild when you smile and how your laughter's so melodic it's a song I mean the way your creativity's a compass that leads you to what you love and you don't need any miracle cream to keep your passions smooth, hair free or diet pills to slim your kindness down and when you start to drown in these petty expectations you better examine the miracle of your existence because you're worth so much more than your waistline you're worth the beautiful thoughts you think and the daring dreams you dream, undone and drunk off alcohol of being but sometimes we forget that because we live in a word where the media pulls us from the womb nurses us and teaches us our first words skinny pretty skinny pretty girls soft quiet pretty boys manly muscles pretty but I don't care whether it's your gender, your looks, your weight, your skin, or where your love lies none of that matters because standards don't define you you don't live to meet credentials established by a madman you're a goddamn treasure whether you wanna believe it or not and maybe that's what everyone should start looking for.

Sangiovese

22:51
Françoise Pie is a filmmaker and artist working in experimental film, poetry, and fashion. Her first film, Sangiovese, is a suite of video-tone-poems, or, an expanded trailer set for a speculative serialized TV drama, distilling the sketched mayhem of Pie’s pilot soap opera Boys of Gastown into rarefied form: something hoping to actually exist as a film, but subject to the contemporary media collapse of our filmic condition in its attempts to exist ... the film exhibits a crisis of TV that abridges a series to become a simple trailer, a crisis of space and the opening of striations into set accessibility (ISSUE Project Room), a crisis of fashion that depreciates the seasonal runway into amateur character costume, a crisis of characterization in Carmella and Furio’s simultaneously adorned reference and insistent absence, and a crisis of sound that leads to a grossly ephemeral OST. The film is an evacuated assemblage previewing a co-compositionally romantic media collapse -- a total funeral of media across her employed practices. -Nick James Scavo Full essay on https://theactualschool.com/

English Talk Ep 1: What makes poems bad?

09:44
Let me know what you guys think. Here are my sophomore year poems lol. (The format might mess up) Poem 1: Untitled by Doug Wheeler, 1968 This is the purgatory for the children who cannot purge. It is time. The crinkled plastic pop of shoe covers followed me as I got closer to a white so callous I began to see black, negative space. The pearls in the gates have come loose, the beads are cruising off and hitting the highway. Electric blue Malibu convertibles and walls pretty pasty pink - the pearls dimpled. The four corners of dark are framed, luminescent, neons above the scene of a crime. I rubbed my eyes, pulling off mascara and eyelashes as my vision faltered and stuttered, Where is the door? The walls of fog stood like bricks and I stared as if waiting for something. I will find no miracles here. The purgatory gates gleam black. Poem 2: Health and Safety Code 11350 The crushed buds of Houdini cigarette breaks and the ashen anxiety of bathroom disappearances Clean shelves, the books - spines cracked like yours is Soft pastel-palette lilac nails and sullen silly smirks play hide and seek with your eyes to veil the degradation of will: you asked me to euthanize your black cement feeling- the way it stuck like honey and tasted like blood You said you wanted to be the axe instead of the tree- be the one to cut and never the one to hit the ground. ————————— Find me on social media: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sicksartorial Tumblr: http://readytoglare.tumblr.com/ Snapchat: gcphilipp Email: [email protected]

01:14
A renaissance of Poetry, Art and Fashion. Purchase your book today available at Amazon and read along with me as I delight your ears and eyes every Friday with my spoken word poetry! "Can I Borrow Your Face?" by Chicago author Patrick Coates, gives a fresh narrative to the world of style and glamour. The book demonstrates how poetry goes into fashion like flour goes into bread and is as nourishing for the mind as it's 360 pages of beautiful models and art are food for the eyes.  Casting their spell, these women span the globe, hailing from places like New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, and more! Among them are Hollywood actress (spoiler alert) me Stefanja Orlowska. The author injects vitality and imagination back into a tired scene by juxtaposing inspired verse with images of model muses then credits the names of their designer, photographer, makeup artist, and hairstylist.  A renaissance of Poetry, Art and Fashion. Free is nice, but if you can afford to pay a little every month, it really helps us to continue producing this content. In which John Green teaches you about the poetry of Langston Hughes. Langston Hughes was a poet and playwright in the first half of the 20th century, and he was involved in the Harlem Renaissance, which was a cultural movement among African Americans of the time that produced all kinds of great works in literature, poetry, painting, sculpture, music, and other areas. The Harlem Renaissance mainly happened in Harlem, the traditionally black neighborhood in upper Manhattan in New York City. Langston Hughes was primarily known as a poet, but he was involved deeply in the movement itself as well. John will teach you a bit about Hughes's background, and he'll examine a few of his best known poems.
