Assessing Learning Outcomes - A Quick Explanation
One of the project results of LOASA (Learning Outcomes in Accordance with the Skills Agenda) is this animation about learning units, and how to assess the obtained learning outcomes. The video is part of a training programme for the assessors. Although we address students in this video, the content will also help teachers/coaches at school and mentors/supervisors at a learning company to understand how the assessment of learning outcomes takes place. In less than 3 minutes, the video explains the following among others: 1. Obtaining a diploma means you have acquired proper skills during your training, and you are now competent as a starting employee in a specific profession. 2. In order to determine the learning outcomes for skills, the LOASA partners work with learning units and corresponding assessment forms; 3. We use the units of learning outcomes for all types of learning, including learning in real-life practice at a company; 4. The learning outcomes contain different sets of skills (generic, technical and social-emotional skills) - in line with the New Skills Agenda for Europe; 5. The learning objectives of the units come from real life practice and have been co-established by business and schools. 6. The assessment takes into account the EQF level of a student, focusing on the amount of complexity and responsibility he/she can handle; 7. We explain how the assessment form works, when the assessment takes place and by whom; 8. Using the learning units and assessment form is essential for the recognition and validation of the learning outcomes so the competent body can approve the outcomes and they count for the diploma, even if they have been obtained at a company abroad. LOASA is an Erasmus+ KA2 project, co-funded by the EU. More info on http://loasa.eu

Purpose of Assessments: The Why?
Check out this great Power Point Presentation on Teacher's Guide to Classroom Assessments for further understanding https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Teachers-Guide-to-Assessments-3659168 found at my TPT store. This video will explore the purpose of assessments on both a large scale and a smaller scale. It will begin with a discussion as to the overall goal of assessments as it pertains to students, teachers, parents, and schools. This video aims to answer the question of why do we use assessments, and what can teachers, educators, and administrators get from the results of assessments. The purpose of assessments may be different depending on the individual test, project, quiz etc. This video is part of an assessment playlist where educators can learn as much as possible about classroom assessments to assessments for students with disabilities, to assessing English language learners. This particular video talks about how assessments affect classroom teachers, individual students, entire schools, and a whole school district. The video goes in to describe how assessments can have a variety of purposes as opposed to just one purpose. In fact, most teachers are able to learn more than one thing from an assessment.

In this webinar, NILE Director Thom Kiddle will discuss key principles in developing and delivering valid and reliable language tests and assessments. We will look at what makes a test valid, and ways of ensuring that we are measuring what we claim to measure. We will also consider the impact of the CEFR and the rise of digital technology on testing practices in the 21st century. Finally, we will look at some of the pitfalls to avoid in item writing and test delivery, giving teachers clear principles to develop their own language assessment literacy. Thom Kiddle has worked at NILE since 2011, after moving back to the UK from Chile where he was head of academic research and educational technology at the Chilean-British University. He has previously worked in Portugal, the UK, Australia and Thailand in language teaching, teacher training and language assessment. He has a Master’s degree in Language Testing from Lancaster University and the Cambridge Delta, and his role at NILE involves strategic and organisational management, and training and consultancy in a range of areas including testing and assessment, learning technologies, materials development and language teaching methodology. Thom is also treasurer and founding director of AQUEDUTO – the Association for Quality Education and Training Online; webmaster for the Testing, Evaluation and Assessment Special Interest Group of IATEFL; and a member of the Eaquals Board of Trustees.
