The Art of Building a Roadmap - Atlassian Summit 2016

45:02
Sherif Mansour Principal Product Manager, Atlassian The process of defining a roadmap is arguably one of the most difficult but important things a product manager has to do. Far too often roadmaps are built without the complete picture in mind, without the right timing, in silos, or are misdirected. How then can we ensure we’re doing it right? Is there really such a thing as an agile roadmap? This talk will draw from lessons learnt building product to provide practical tips and techniques enabling you to understand roadmap inputs, plan with different perspectives in mind, optimise for learning, communicate and set roadmap goals as well as find agility when the landscape around you changes. My 2018 PowerPoint Masterclass is available: https://www.udemy.com/complete-powerpoint-presentation-design/?couponCode=YOUTUBE This is not a tutorial for everyone. I have recorded it upon special request by one of my students but it seems that a lot of people stuggle with this topic if they have to approach it, especially in PowerPoint. We will try and create a Product Roadmap template for use on our slides and presentations in PowerPoint. I will share my entire thought process and how I would design all elements to make them easily accessible and visible for the consumer. I hope this will be a helpful tuotorial for everyone interested. It is a longer one than usual but if you are not interested in product roadmaps you can simply watch another one and spare this tutorial :) Here is the link to the PPTX of this video: http://www.filedropper.com/productroadmapbyandrzejpach The font used here was Century Gothic so make sure you have that one isntalled before opening :) ➥ MY BEST PPT COURSES: ● PowerPoint Masterclass: https://www.udemy.com/case-study-powerpoint-2013-presentation-slide-by-slide/?couponCode=YT10 ● Kinetic Typography: https://www.udemy.com/powerpoint-kinetic-typography/?couponCode=YT10 ● Logo Intro Animations: https://www.udemy.com/logo-intro-animations-for-youtube-in-powerpoint-2013/?couponCode=YT10 ➥ SUBSCRIBE: http://www.youtube.com/c/learnfrommenet?sub_confirmation=1

3 Inputs To a Great Product Roadmap | Dan Martell

06:25
Frustrated customers? No customers sticking around? It’s a product problem. In this video, I share 3 inputs required to create a great product strategy. Are you an entrepreneur? Get free weekly video training here: http://www.danmartell.com/newsletter + Join me on FB: http://FB.com/DanMartell + Connect w/ me live: http://periscope.tv/danmartell + Tweet me: http://twitter.com/danmartell + Instagram awesomeness: http://instagram.com/danmartell When I first built Clarity.fm, it wasn’t a marketplace. It was a call list app. The concept was that I could add anyone to my list, with phone number and description, then it would robo call each person, reading to me the name of the person and reason for the call. In short... I was building a productivity tool, NOT a marketplace. A strategic “face palm” that would greatly handicap the business’ potential for growth. (#2 on my list of inputs to build great product). Even after I held a 300 person launch event in my hometown of Moncton, I refused to build search into the product. What I did instead was build a page that listed all of the experts who were available for a call. Stupid. It wasn’t until after months of getting emails to our support team that I realized we needed to add a search feature. What happened next was the beginning of what made Clarity a huge success. We launched the feature and it doubled our growth. What I break down in this week’s video are the 3 inputs (or categories) of feedback you have to leverage to build a great business that doesn’t ignore it’s customers AND builds real revenue. Over the next two years, we leveraged this framework to help our product roadmap strategy... ... each team member brought ideas and categorized accordingly: 1) Market and Needs: Is this something the customers are asking for in numbers? What are they expecting that we don’t offer? 2) Business Goals: What features do we need to add (like search) to help the business grow and succeed? 3) Key Features/Differentiators: What makes our product different, or offers a product hook that we can lead with to differentiate ourselves from existing solutions? Understanding each of these buckets allowed us to quickly sort and build a product roadmap that would deliver the traction we needed to grow. So my question to you is... Do you have a way to capture & categorize customer feedback? What about the input from your team? How is it managed? If you don’t, create one now... If you had that in place, how would it change the way you build your product or service today? Leave a comment below with your answer! Have an amazing week! Dan “hard headed” Martell Don't forget to share this entrepreneurial advice with your friends, so they can learn too: https://youtu.be/JmPlJKaxhuA ===================== ABOUT DAN MARTELL ===================== “You can only keep what you give away.” That’s the mantra that’s shaped Dan Martell from a struggling 20-something business owner in the Canadian Maritimes (which is waaay out east) to a successful startup founder who’s raised more than $3 million in venture funding and exited not one... not two... but three tech businesses: Clarity.fm, Spheric and Flowtown. You can only keep what you give away. That philosophy has led Dan to invest in 33+ early stage startups such as Udemy, Intercom, Unbounce and Foodspotting. It’s also helped him shape the future of Hootsuite as an advisor to the social media tour de force. An activator, a tech geek, an adrenaline junkie and, yes, a romantic (ask his wife Renee), Dan has recently turned his attention to teaching startups a fundamental, little-discussed lesson that directly impacts their growth: how to scale. You’ll find not only incredible insights in every moment of every talk Dan gives - but also highly actionable takeaways that will propel your business forward. Because Dan gives freely of all that he knows. After all, you can only keep what you give away. Product Roadmap Process

03:26
In all companies, hard choices have to be made about what new product or feature ideas should be fed the company's most precious resources — time and money. A product roadmap is one way to show where resources are being spent, and a transparent, competitive process for developing this roadmap will help everyone understand why resources are being spent this way. This video outlines the qualities of the best product roadmaps we've seen.

Product Vision Product Strategy & Product Roadmap [Definition]

05:46
Product Vision, Product Strategy & Product Roadmaps are critical steps that help you define where the company and product want to be on Marco level and which activities you need to perform on the Micro level to get there. Product Vision: is future you want to create or problem your product will solve on Marco level. This is where you want to be 4-5 years from today. Product Strategy: Is defining product/market fits for various verticals, customer personas etc that will get you there. Product Roadmap: is tactical, day to day activities you will perform on the micro level. As a company, it is very critical that your whole team is on board with company vision and understand where they want to get to. This tutorial gives you step by step explanation on what these 3 tiers mean and how you should structure your approach. Our Perfect Ecommerce Roadmap

SUBSCRIBE! Or don't... but I'd prefer if you did! So over the past couple years I've helped a LOT of stores get this exact funnel down and I think it's always cool to visualize it so why not use my enormous white board right? Ecommerce CAN be difficult when you start by throwing darts. What I mean is, if you are GUESSING what kind of products you should sell you are going to have a hard time. On top of that, you need to have the right "layout" for your business. You're going to fail more than you succeed when it comes to selling products... but if you can build a list along the way, and a retargeting audience you will eventually come out profitable on the other side. Shopify + This Funnel = Badass results! Enjoy!
