(Middleman) - Freight Charge Terms FOB – Free on Board (or Freight on Board). This basically means that the cost of delivering the goods to the nearest port is included but YOU, as the buyer, are responsible for the shipping from there and all other fees associated with getting the goods to your country/address. EXW (Ex-Works) – also sometimes referred to as the Ex-Factory price. This basically means the cost of the product and nothing else! No shipping costs or export fees in China are included in this price, never mind local port and custom fees or delivery to your door. CIF – Cost, Insurance and Freight. In this case, the price also includes sea freight charges and insurance to deliver the goods to YOUR nearest port. But only to the port – from that point onwards, you take the shipment into your hands. CNF – Cost & Freight (or Cost, no Insurance, Freight). Similar to CIF only this time insurance is not included. DDP - Is a transaction where the seller (Manufacturer) pays for the total costs associated with transporting goods and is fully responsible for the goods until they are received and transferred to the buyer. This is the best type of shipping arrangement if your supplier is handling the entire shipment as they deal with everything for you. What do you need? (UK) Bill of Lading ⁃ Supplier (shipper) ⁃ Importer ⁃ delivery address ⁃ instructions ⁃ bill of lading number ⁃ Carrier name ⁃ Freight charge terms (FOB - CIF) ⁃ Commodity Description ⁃ Quantity Commercial Invoice ⁃ States value ⁃ For customs ⁃ For VAT Packing List / Shipping list / waybill /delivery list ⁃ Quantity, type of products Fee Breakdown Freight Forwarder - Total - £348 - Terminal Handling - £69 - Documentation - £100 - Co-Loader Fee - £30 - Customs Clearance - £45 - Pallet Fee x1 - £9.50 - Delivery to warehouse - £95 ——— Sea Shipping - Everything you need to know! Discover the 5 mistakes new importers make when they are importing products from China. Don’t make the same mistakes! Get our free ebook: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step Freightos: http://wholesaleted.com/go/freightos First mistake importers make when importing products from China: Assuming that shipping by sea will be the cheapest option A lot of new importers think they will save money if they ship by sea rather than air. On the surface it seems cheaper as importers usually pay around 60 cents/KG when shipping via sea, compared to the $7/KG when shipping by air courier. Unfortunately what they don’t realize is that the reason it’s that cheap is because when shipping via sea, you ship via container, and you need to rent an entire container. They are very large and require you to be shipping hundreds of KGs to be making it worth your time. If you are an Amazon private label seller, you are unlikely to have enough stock being shipped to fill a container by at least 60-70% so it will be cheaper to ship by air. When shipping by air, you have two options: 1) Air freight 2) Air courier Air courier is when you have your items shipped door-to-door. It is the easiest but the most expensive per KG (although in smaller quantities it is cheaper). Air freight is when you have your items flown from one airport to the other. You will need to organize other additional services: * Having the items delivered to the airport * A customs broker * Having the items delivered from the airport to the final location. There are a lot of fixed fees with this which means it becomes cheaper to use air freight with larger quantities. To figure out which option will be cheaper for you, I recommend using Freightos. Second mistake importers make when importing products from China: Not using the Metric system In China, they use the Metric system and not the Imperial system. So be sure to use KGs instead of lbs and CM instead of inches. It’s important to remember that when working with Chinese suppliers that they expect you to work on their terms and their timeframes. It can be frustrating, but it’s worth it for the cheap Chinese products you import! Third mistake importers make when importing products from China: Using Less than Container Load for shipping When shipping by sea, you have two options: 1) FCL which stands for Full Container Load 2) LCL which stands for Less than Container Load Inexperienced importers fall for the trap of shipping with LCL because they see that the price are extremely cheap. What they don’t realize is that these LCL companies have special deals with the ports to charge you extremely high Destination Service Charges. The LCL companies then make their money in the form of a “rebate” which is essentially commissions/kickbacks. Destination Service Charges are usually priced per-container and cost between $500-$1000 per container for ports in the USA. But when shipping by LCL you end up paying a high fee per cubic meters. It means that you often end up paying a fee comparable to shipping an entire container. Don’t fall for this trap: If you can’t break even with FCL, then ship by air. Fourth mistake importers make when importing products from China: not calculating the correct duties you will need to pay When you import products from China, you will need to pay duties at the border. If you don’t calculate the correct rate you can get a shock if it comes back as more than you expected. Duties can be a bit complicated to work out because there are a lot of variables. For example, if you imported woolen jackets, you need to consider which country the wool came from, as some countries (like Israel) have duty-free agreements over wool, which would reduce the duties you had to pay. On the other hand if synthetic fibres were used instead of pure wool, then your duty rates would be higher since there are higher duties applied to synthetic fibres within the USA. To figure out what your duty rate is, find out what the HTS (Harmonized Tax System) code is for your item. To find this, ask your Chinese supplier as they will most likely know. You can then go through the HTS manual and find what the duty rate is for the HTS code of your products. Fifth mistake importers make when importing products from China: being afraid to make mistakes And finally - don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Through making mistakes you learn how to overcome them the next time and make even more money. Mistakes are apart of entrepreneurship. Learn from others - and learn from your own as well!

In this video I show the Amazon FBA sea shipping quotes I have received from freight forwarders for importing a product from China to the UK for selling on Amazon FBA UK. I received quotes from a number of different freight forwarders and share the information I have learned about importing sea shipments including discussing FOB (Freight On Board / Free On Board) and EXW (Ex Works). I'll also show you how to calculate your landed unit cost and go through the exact costs and profit margins for the product I am launching. Here are my sea shipping tips for importing to sell on Amazon FBA UK: • Always use a freight forwarder - they will almost certainly be cheaper than the supplier arranging delivery • Check your freight forwarder is familiar with preparing shipments for Amazon. Amazon need the shipment palletized and wrapped in a certain way and the supplier may not send it like this. • Check they have pre-arranged delivery slots with Amazon or can they arrange them as Amazon will not accept deliveries unless they have been booked in • ALWAYS insure your shipment! Please drop a comment below if you would like to know what freight forwarders gave me the best quotes or if you have any questions about sea shipping, I reply to every comment within 24 hours.

The current process is as of July 1st, 2017 because US customs do change important process regularly. In this episode, we go over importation step-by-step to the USA for sea shipping under EXW. We are going to use China as an example since most products are Made In China. Step 1: POA - Allow the freight forwarder to handle your cargo Step 2: Pick up in from the supplier Step 3: AMS - Automatic Manifest System - Must be completed 72 hours before vessel sail. If not, it cargo will not be loaded and importers increase their chance of inspection and fines. Step 4: ISF - Importer Security Filing "10+2" - Must be completed 24 hours before vessel sail. If not, importers increase their chance of inspection and fines up to $5000. We have yet to see this fine but US Customs has announce for many years. Step 5: Arrival Notice - Summary alert of imported cargo being import to the importer. Provide by the freight forwarder after the vessel sail. Step 6: Invoice and Packing list - Shipper gives it to the consignee/importer. Importer confirms it is correct and give them to the freight forward. Step 7: Customs clearance Final Step: Deliver the cargo to our warehouse for processing: inspect, storage, label and release to final destination. Major errors that importers make: - No "Made in _____" marking - Master Carton marking - FDA, DOT, USFWS, and Certificate for toy product. For product that needs to go through these agency, without them product cannot clear customs. Transit time from Shanghai or Shenzhen to Long Beach, CA by water FCL (Full container load): 14-16 days on the water, 3-5 days to unload off the vessel, 1 day to our warehouse for processing LCL ( Loose cargo load): 14-16 days on the water, 3-5 days to unload off the vessel, 3-5 days to unload from the container, 1 day to our warehouse for processing For more info or you need freight forwarding services, please e-mail: [email protected] Website: www.worldcraftlogistics.com

The South China Sea plays an outsized role in international commerce and politics. A litany of regional and global powers crave its natural resources as well as the benefits that come with controlling on of the world's most important shipping lanes. China has aggressively pursued control over the Spratley Islands — an archipelago of rocks, reefs and cays that sit in the middle of the sea. Malaysia, Brunei, The Philippines, Vietnam and Taiwan have staked their own claims to the area, but it's really the United States Navy that stands in the way of China. The Seventh Fleet, however, cannot keep China from reclaiming land on the islands it controls. Professor Dave Denoon, director of the NYU Center on US-China Relations explains how the situation arose and how it will likely play out in upcoming years. -------------------------------------------------- Follow BI Video on Twitter: http://bit.ly/1oS68Zs Follow BI on Facebook: http://bit.ly/1W9Lk0n Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/ -------------------------------------------------- Business Insider is the fastest growing business news site in the US. Bordered by ten nations and including some of the world's most important shipping lanes and fisheries, the South China Sea is a vital region. Critically important mineral resources, including oil, are thought to be there in large quantities as well. The Chinese have long laid claim to nearly the entire South China Sea. That claim is contested by many nations and in some instances the conflict has turned violent. This summer the United States entered the fray. In July, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, "The United States has a national interest in freedom of navigation, open access to Asia's maritime commons, and respect for international law in the South China Sea." This comment, made at a meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations' (ASEAN) regional forum held in Hanoi, triggered a vigorous response from Chinese authorities. Chinese authorities argue that they and other nations in the region can work out their differences on a bilateral, nation to nation basis. They say that the U.S. is intruding into the discussion and attempting to make rights and use of the South China Sea an international issue. As Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi put it, "What will be the consequences to if this issue is turned into an international or multilateral one? It will only make matters worse and the resolution more difficult." Classroom use of this video is permitted. We would appreciate feedback from viewers. China and Pakistan have launched direct rail and sea freight service. China and Pakistan have launched a direct rail and sea freight service, with the first cargo train departing from Yunnan, an inland province in southwest China, the official Xinhua news agency reported. A cargo train loaded with 500 tonnes of commodities left Kunming, capital of Yunnan, for port city of Guangzhou from where the cargo will be loaded on ships and transported to Karachi, marking the opening of the new route. "The route helps locals businesses connect with the world market," a representative from the New Silk Road Yunnan Limited said. The new service is said to reduce the transport cost by over 50 per cent. The new rail, sea freight service will cut logistics cost, including that of transport, by 50 per cent compared to past services, the news agency reported. The service is a part of China's Maritime Silk Road initiative of which the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project (CPEC) is an extension. Pakistan and China kicked off first trade activities under CPEC in October as over a hundred Chinese containers arrived at the Sust port in Hunza, following clearance from customs. The containers were headed to Gwadar.

This Episode: •Tips for sea shipping products •Freight forwarding issues •The Flexport FF Solution Probably the most intimidating thing about sourcing products for private label sales from an overseas supplier is the issue of shipping. There are all kinds of issues that you have to be aware of including export licenses, taxes, when ownership of the products transfers to you (thus in indicating your liability), customs fees, and more. You can walk that path yourself or you can have someone help you. Scott definitely advises the later. Find out how it works on this great episode where Scott is chatting with Ryan Peterson, of Flexport. HOW RYAN STARTED THINKING ABOUT CREATING A FREIGHT FORWARDING COMPANY. It’s often the pain we experience ourselves that prompts us, entrepreneurs, to build something to solve that problem. That’s how it was for today’s guest, Ryan Peterson. Ryan had experienced some issues with his supplier and the sea shipping options that not only cost him a lot of money through fees and delays but also didn’t allow him to keep his products in stock as easily as he expected. He’d already worked in the overseas markets and figured he might be the guy to figure out some better systems to make things happen smoothly for others. Flexport is his solution. Find out more about Ryan and the Flexport story on this episode of The Amazing Seller. PRODUCT SHIPPING ISSUES CAN TRIP UP YOUR SALES PIPELINE IN A NUMBER OF WAYS. One of the many problems Ryan Peterson ran into that caused him to build the Flexport solution for purchasers of overseas products was regarding timing. What he discovered was that everything had to legally be done in a certain sequence. If it wasn’t, and his product was shipped before a certain requirement was met, the shipping company would charge him daily fees for having his products “stored” at their facility. It’s just one example of the kinds of headaches it can be to ship by sea. But there are answers and Ryan has built the solution, which you can hear about on this episode of The Amazing Seller. WHEN IT COMES TO DEALING WITH OVERSEAS SHIPPING, MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE TERMS. There are all kinds of acronyms and terms used in the sea shipping and freight forwarding that can get you confused. And if you choose the wrong options, thinking they are the right option (which is not entirely unheard of) you can wind up paying lots of money in the form of customs fees and taxes that you really didn’t have to pay. So how do you navigate a field of landmines like that? You need someone to guide you – and on this episode of the podcast, Scott has just the guy – Ryan Peterson of Flexport. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DEAL WITH YOUR FREIGHT ISSUES FOR PRIVATE LABEL PRODUCTS? If you’re sourcing your products from overseas – China in particular – you are going to have to decide how you are going to handle your shipping issues. You can do it yourself. It’s possible, but you have to know what you’re doing. Or you can hire a company to be the go-between and the one to ensure all steps are being followed properly. To help you make that decision Scott’s brought on an expert from the freight forwarding industry to help you understand the pros and cons of each option – and hopefully to make a good decision for your situation. OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE OF THE AMAZING SELLER ▪ [0:03] Scott’s introduction to this episode of the podcast and his gust, Ryan Peterson! ▪ [3:50] Ryan’s story and how he build a freight forwarding company. ▪ [6:26] Why issues are always changing in the private label and ecommerce world. ▪ [8:20] Why Ryan wanted to create his own system and company for freight forwarding. ▪ [13:38] The main things to watch out for when it comes to sea shipping. ▪ [17:30] The logistical differences between freight forwarders and parcel post shippers. ▪ [21:58] The freight forwarder’s job to bring all companies and processes together. ▪ [24:54] One of the main things that hangs up sellers who order from China. ▪ [29:55] The Flexport solution to these complicated issues. ▪ [39:43] Ryan’s final advice: Keep at it – learning and growing as you go. F-35 fighter jets are deployment to South China Sea - American Lockheed Martin F-35s will embed on the maiden mission of the U.K.'s HMS Queen Elizabeth to disputed waters in the South China Sea. At London's Royal United Services Institute think tank Monday, Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson announced the U.K.'s new carrier will be sent to the Mediterranean, Middle East and Pacific for its first operational mission after extensive tests with F-35s in the U.S. late last year. Williamson didn't give a time frame for the deployment, but the HMS Queen Elizabeth is expected to enter service by 2020. The so-called Big Lizzy's voyage will officially be a mixed U.K.-U.S. deployment. "Significantly British and American F-35s will be embedded in the carrier's air wing. Enhancing the reach and lethality of our forces and reinforcing the fact that United States remains the very closest of partners," Williamson said. Durning his speech, Williamson also highlighted the U.K.'s purchase of nine Boeing Poseidon P-8 Maritime Patrol Aircraft that will allow the U.K. to "patrol thousands of miles of ocean and greatly enhancing our anti-submarine and maritime capability." South China Sea A Big Stage For F-35s. The deployment of F-35s to the South China Sea comes as regional tensions have boosted demand for the stealth fighter. Japan recently added 100 jets to an earlier order for 42 F-35s, making the U.S. ally the biggest overseas buyer of the F-35 after the U.K. The inclusion of F-35B short-take off and vertical landing variants in the latest order plus Japan's decision to build a ship capable of launching them mean the country will be able to use the F-35Bs to project power beyond Japan's territorial waters. China and Japan are engaged in a separate dispute outside the South China Sea Meanwhile, South Korea is also buying F-35s amid growing concern over North Korea's nuclear and missile programs. South Korea also hosted a deployment of U.S. Marine Corps F-35s in 2017 for training exercises. The South China Sea deployment will be another high-profile opportunity to showcase the F-35's capabilities to U.S. allies and adversaries. Chinese Aggression In South China Sea. Beijing has been building artificial islands in the South China Sea and deploying weapons on them in recent years as part of its effort to claims the adjacent water, waters which contain key shipping routes and oil deposits. The U.S. and its allies have conducted so-called freedom of navigation patrols through the South China Sea despite Chinese warnings that they must first get permission from Beijing. Late Sunday night, the U.S. destroyers USS Spruance and USS Preble sailed by the disputed Spratly Islands, according to CNN. In the long dispute of the South China Sea, Beijing claims most of the sea as its territory but countries like Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan say parts of the maritime pathway belong to them. Former Naval Intelligence Officer John Jordan joins Rick Sanchez to explain how oil, shipping lanes and fishing rights are keeping Beijing from giving up the South China Sea and how the US is right to challenge them on it. Japan and Vietnam join hands over disputed South China Sea Prime ministers agree to work together for peace, security and free trade in the Indo-Pacific region Japan and Vietnam have agreed to work together to maintain peace and security in the South China Sea, where Hanoi and other countries are engaged in a territorial dispute with Beijing. Japan does not face the South China Sea but views the vital shipping lane, where Beijing has built artificial islands with military infrastructure, as strategically important. The Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc met in Abe’s Tokyo office on Monday where they also confirmed their readiness to promote free and fair trade through regional trade agreements, including the 11-member Trans-Pacific Partnership, despite the spreading trend of protectionism. Abe said, “going hand-in-hand with Prime Minister Phuc”, he was “determined to realise the free and open Indo-Pacific region”, which covers the South China Sea. Phuc refrained from naming China, but said he and Abe had confirmed the need to ensure peace, maritime security and freedom of navigation in, and flying above, the South China Sea. “I welcome and support Japan’s efforts and initiative to secure economic prosperity, freedom of trade and safety of navigation in the Indo-Pacific region,” he said. Phuc is in Tokyo for the Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting, which will also bring together the leaders of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand on Tuesday. With this year marking the 45th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties between Japan and Vietnam, Abe pledged to promote people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. Japan is preparing to boost foreign workers through the introduction of a new residence status from April next year. Japan also promised up to 1.2 billion yen (US$11 million) in grant aid to procure equipment to check food safety in Vietnam in an attempt to help expand the country’s food exports. Abe expressed Japan’s condolences for the deaths of Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang in September and former Vietnamese Communist Party general secretary Do Muoi earlier this month. Japan Intensifying Pressure on China in the South China Sea SUBSCRIBE my channel here: https://goo.gl/F8gn4Z G+ here: https://goo.gl/UzMJVe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Japan’s navy has been taking part in military exercises in the South China Sea over the past two months. The exercises are evidence of increased Japanese activity in an area where Japan has long-term interests, including controlling China’s influence. In September, a Japanese submarine, helicopter carrier and two destroyer warships explored parts of the South China Sea. The exercises are part of a two-month program called the Indo Southeast Asia Deployment 2018. The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense forces say it is designed to support the “interoperability of our partner navies.” Last week, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe promised to work with Vietnam on security in the waterway. That statement followed a beach landing exercise involving forces of both Japan and the Philippines. Japan does not claim territory in the South China Sea, as do Vietnam and the Philippines. However, the Japanese do want to keep the sea open to international shipping. China’s military buildup in the waterway, then, is a concern. China has been developing man-made islands in the area for its military. Some of these islets now have runways for large military airplanes. Some are defended with missiles. Japan is an ally of the United States. The Japanese also have a territorial dispute with China in the East China Sea. Jeffery Kingston is a history teacher at Temple University in Japan. He told VOA, “Clearly Japan wants to send a message to Beijing that China doesn’t get to do anything it wants in the South China Sea.” Kingston added that Japan is developing relationships with other nations in East Asia, and the exercises are likely to continue. “These exercises are going to become the new norm,” he said. Japanese interests expand in Southeast Asia Japan started intensifying ties with Southeast Asia about 20 years ago, when China began expanding its own economic relations in the area.
