Neither of the transactions here can move forward, as each one is waiting for the other to release the lock. When deadlocks occur, SQL Server will choose one of processes as the deadlock victim and rollback that process, so the other process can move forward. The transaction that is chosen as the deadlock victim will produce the following error. Reload data into cache automatically when data in the table changes Part 132

In this video, we will discuss about reloading data into cache automatically when data in the underlying database table has changed. Please watch Part 131, before proceeding with this video. To load data automatically into cache, when cached data is removed, we need to define a callback method. This callback method will be invoked when the respective item is removed from cache. So, the code to reload and re-cache data can be written in this method. The callback method signature should match, with the signature of "CacheItemRemovedCallback" delegate. The call back method is defined below. public void CacheItemRemovedCallbackMethod(string key, object value, CacheItemRemovedReason reason) { string CS = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DBConnectionString"].ConnectionString; SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(CS); SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter("spGetProducts", con); da.SelectCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; DataSet ds = new DataSet(); da.Fill(ds); CacheItemRemovedCallback onCacheItemRemoved = new CacheItemRemovedCallback(CacheItemRemovedCallbackMethod); SqlCacheDependency sqlDependency = new SqlCacheDependency("Sample", "tblProducts"); Cache.Insert("ProductsData", ds, sqlDependency, DateTime.Now.AddHours(24), Cache.NoSlidingExpiration, CacheItemPriority.Default, onCacheItemRemoved); } Now, create an instance of "CacheItemRemovedCallback" delegate, and to the contructor pass the name of the callback method, that should be executed automatically when, the cached item is removed. CacheItemRemovedCallback onCacheItemRemoved = new CacheItemRemovedCallback(CacheItemRemovedCallbackMethod); In Part 131, to cache data, we used cache object's, Insert() method that takes 3 parameters, as shown below. Cache.Insert("ProductsData", ds, sqlDependency); Instead, let's use the overloaded version that takes 7 parameters and pass "onCacheItemRemoved" as an argument for "CacheItemRemovedCallback" parameter. Cache.Insert("ProductsData", ds, sqlDependency, DateTime.Now.AddHours(24), Cache.NoSlidingExpiration, CacheItemPriority.Default, onCacheItemRemoved); That's it. We are done. Now, please run the application. When "Get Data" button is clicked for the first time, the data is loaded from database. Once the data is loaded into cache, we always get it from cache when we click "Get Data". Now, execute an update statement on the database table. Notice that, when we click "Get Data" button now, we still get data from cache, but notice that, the updated data is loaded.

Oracle Architecture

04:11
This video describes the best architecture of the oracle after trying more than times to Oracle structure I decided to produce an animated video let's start first with the database structure on the left side you have the client here on the right side you have to serve a two-year the server side is divided in three main structures to memory the logical structure and the physical structure so let's use SQL Plus application to provide you every step up a transaction will be using Scott sample schema it is important to note that the whole string is an alias and not a database name district will be compared to this alias inside of a file called pianist named doc or this file is similar to a DNS and with up pain all the necessary detail to reach a database server locally a user process will be allocated and will validate the connection through a listener the listener will be in charge to allocate a server process the user processes da link to the server process let's now execute our first transaction for this example we will execute an update first to state that will be validated we call this step the parsing this server process sense back to confirmation of the parsing that statement with be written into their share pool and the redo log buffer an execution plan will also be created it to the fair share Paul that database book they choose fought the transaction will be read and copy into the database buffer cache only that feel implicated in that transaction will be held it to a - segment till the transaction is completed we call those copies the before image a copy of this block will be duplicated with the updated feel this copy is called me after image a confirmation will be sent to to use a process the commit statement will complete the transaction and will be written into to redo log buffer to commit statement triggers the log writer process and we'll send all statement for the current transaction into the redo log file the before image into undo segment could be then deleted went that threshold up to undo retention parameters reach alaskan from Asian will be sent to the user process went to current law kiss Paul it generates a switch lock triggering at the same time the archiver process and to log sequence number the archiver will generate and archive the file with the content of the current loc a switch up with them trigger a checkpoint process that will incriminate the checkpoint number by applying this last number into each data file header the checkpoint process with finally trigger the database writer process enright the last image from that database buffer cache into thirty people

Prevent sql injection with dynamic sql

In Part 140, we have implemented "Search Page" using dynamic SQL. Since we have used parameters to build our dynamic SQL statements, it is not prone to SQL Injection attack. This is an example of good dynamic SQL implementation. I have seen lot of software developers, not just the beginners but even experienced developers, buidling their dynamic sql queries by concatenating strings instead of using parameters without realizing that they are opening the doors for SQL Injection. Please check my blog at the following link for code used in the demo. http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/prevent-sql-injection-with-dynamic-sql.html Since we are concatenating the user input values to build the dynamic sql statement, the end user can very easily inject sql. Imagine, what happens for example, if the user enters the following in the "Firstname" textbox. ' Drop database SalesDB -- With the above SQL injected into the "Firstname" textbox, if you click the "Search" button, the following is the query which is sent to SQL server. This will drop the SalesDB. Select * from Employees where 1 = 1 AND FirstName = '' Drop database SalesDB --' On the other hand, if you use parameters to build your dynamic SQL statements, SQL Injection is not an issue. The following input in the "Firstname" textbox, would not drop the SalesDB database. ' Drop database SalesDB -- The text the user has provided in the "Firstname" textbox is treated as the value for @Firstname parameter. The following is the query that is generated and executed. exec sp_executesql N'Select * from Employees where 1 = 1 AND [email protected]',N'@FirstName nvarchar(26)',@FirstName=N''' Drop database SalesDB --' We don't have this problem of sql injection if we are using stored procedures. "SearchPageWithoutDynamicSQL.aspx" is using the stored procedure "spSearchEmployees" instead of dynamic SQL. The same input in the "Firstname" texbox on this page, would generate the following. Notice, whatever text we typed in the "Firstname" textbox is treated as the value for @FirstName parameter. exec spSearchEmployees @FirstName=N''' Drop database SalesDB --' An important point to keep in mind here is that if you have dynamic SQL in your stored procedure, and you are concatenating strings in that stored procedure to build your dynamic sql statements instead of using parameters, it is still prone to SQL injection. If this is not clear at the moment don't worry, we will discuss an example of this in out next video. So in summary, while dynamic sql provides great flexibility when implementing complicated logic with lot of permutations and combinations, if not properly implemented it may open doors for sql injection. Always use parameters to build dynamic sql statements, instead of concatenating user input values. Another benefit of using parameters to build dynamic sql statements is that it allows cached query plans to be reused, which greatly increases the performance. We will discuss an example of this in our upcoming videos.

Every query you execute in SQL Server must have a plan...a plan, that defines how it is going to be executed. SQL Server Query Optimizer indeed does magic in preparing and reusing those plans, but sometimes we, as developers, need to help it (or at least do not interfere) so the database world is kept in peace. Join me in this advanced session where I will share the simple tricks that can save the day and help you write reusable code, even if you do not use stored procedures in your application.

Over clause in SQL Server

09:13
over partition by in sql server 2008 sql server over clause partition partition by clause in sql server 2008 over partition by clause in sql In this video we will discuss the power and use of Over clause in SQL Server. The OVER clause combined with PARTITION BY is used to break up data into partitions. Syntax : function (...) OVER (PARTITION BY col1, Col2, ...) The specified function operates for each partition. For example : COUNT(Gender) OVER (PARTITION BY Gender) will partition the data by GENDER i.e there will 2 partitions (Male and Female) and then the COUNT() function is applied over each partition. Any of the following functions can be used. Please note this is not the complete list. COUNT(), AVG(), SUM(), MIN(), MAX(), ROW_NUMBER(), RANK(), DENSE_RANK() etc. Example : SQl Script to create Employees table Create Table Employees ( Id int primary key, Name nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(10), Salary int ) Go Insert Into Employees Values (1, 'Mark', 'Male', 5000) Insert Into Employees Values (2, 'John', 'Male', 4500) Insert Into Employees Values (3, 'Pam', 'Female', 5500) Insert Into Employees Values (4, 'Sara', 'Female', 4000) Insert Into Employees Values (5, 'Todd', 'Male', 3500) Insert Into Employees Values (6, 'Mary', 'Female', 5000) Insert Into Employees Values (7, 'Ben', 'Male', 6500) Insert Into Employees Values (8, 'Jodi', 'Female', 7000) Insert Into Employees Values (9, 'Tom', 'Male', 5500) Insert Into Employees Values (10, 'Ron', 'Male', 5000) Go Write a query to retrieve total count of employees by Gender. Also in the result we want Average, Minimum and Maximum salary by Gender. This can be very easily achieved using a simple GROUP BY query as show below. SELECT Gender, COUNT(*) AS GenderTotal, AVG(Salary) AS AvgSal, MIN(Salary) AS MinSal, MAX(Salary) AS MaxSal FROM Employees GROUP BY Gender What if we want non-aggregated values (like employee Name and Salary) in result set along with aggregated values You cannot include non-aggregated columns in the GROUP BY query. SELECT Name, Salary, Gender, COUNT(*) AS GenderTotal, AVG(Salary) AS AvgSal, MIN(Salary) AS MinSal, MAX(Salary) AS MaxSal FROM Employees GROUP BY Gender The above query will result in the following error : Column 'Employees.Name' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause One way to achieve this is by including the aggregations in a subquery and then JOINING it with the main query as shown in the example below. Look at the amount of T-SQL code we have to write. SELECT Name, Salary, Employees.Gender, Genders.GenderTotals, Genders.AvgSal, Genders.MinSal, Genders.MaxSal FROM Employees INNER JOIN (SELECT Gender, COUNT(*) AS GenderTotals, AVG(Salary) AS AvgSal, MIN(Salary) AS MinSal, MAX(Salary) AS MaxSal FROM Employees GROUP BY Gender) AS Genders ON Genders.Gender = Employees.Gender Better way of doing this is by using the OVER clause combined with PARTITION BY SELECT Name, Salary, Gender, COUNT(Gender) OVER(PARTITION BY Gender) AS GenderTotals, AVG(Salary) OVER(PARTITION BY Gender) AS AvgSal, MIN(Salary) OVER(PARTITION BY Gender) AS MinSal, MAX(Salary) OVER(PARTITION BY Gender) AS MaxSal FROM Employees Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/over-clause-in-sql-server.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/over-clause-in-sql-server_29.html All SQL Server Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/free-sql-server-video-tutorials-for.html All SQL Server Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/sql-server.html All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists

Debugging sql server stored procedures

15:11
debugging in ssms debugging t-sql code t sql debug stored procedure sql server management studio debug stored procedure how to debug t sql debug in sql server management studio In this video we will discuss how to debug stored procedures in SQL Server. Setting up the Debugger in SSMS : If you have connected to SQL Server using (local) or . (period), and when you start the debugger you will get the following error Unable to start T-SQL Debugging. Could not connect to computer. To fix this error, use the computer name to connect to the SQL Server instead of using (local) or . For the examples in this video we will be using the following stored procedure. Create procedure spPrintEvenNumbers @Target int as Begin Declare @StartNumber int Set @StartNumber = 1 while(@StartNumber [ @Target) Begin If(@StartNumber%2 = 0) Begin Print @StartNumber End Set @StartNumber = @StartNumber + 1 End Print 'Finished printing even numbers till ' + RTRIM(@Target) End Connect to SQL Server using your computer name, and then execute the above code to create the stored procedure. At this point, open a New Query window. Copy and paste the following T-SQL code to execute the stored procedure. DECLARE @TargetNumber INT SET @TargetNumber = 10 EXECUTE spPrintEvenNumbers @TargetNumber Print 'Done' Starting the Debugger in SSMS : There are 2 ways to start the debugger 1. In SSMS, click on the Debug Menu and select Start Debugging 2. Use the keyboard shortcut ALT + F5 At this point you should have the debugger running. The line that is about to be executed is marked with an yellow arrow Step Over, Step into and Step Out in SSMS : You can find the keyboard shortcuts in the Debug menu in SSMS. Let us understand what Step Over, Step into and Step Out does when debugging the following piece of code 1. There is no difference when you STEP INTO (F11) or STEP OVER (F10) the code on LINE 2 2. On LINE 3, we are calling a Stored Procedure. On this statement if we press F10 (STEP OVER), it won't give us the opportunity to debug the stored procedure code. To be able to debug the stored procedure code you will have to STEP INTO it by pressing F11. 3. If the debugger is in the stored procedure, and you don't want to debug line by line with in that stored procedure, you can STEP OUT of it by pressing SHIFT + F11. When you do this, the debugger completes the execution of the stored procedure and waits on the next line in the main query, i.e on LINE 4 in this example. To stop debugging : There are 2 ways to stop debugging 1. In SSMS, click on the Debug Menu and select Stop Debugging 2. Use the keyboard shortcut SHIFT + F5 Show Next Statement shows the next statement that the debugger is about to execute. Run to Cursor command executes all the statements in a batch up to the current cursor position Locals Window in SSMS : Displays the current values of variables and parameters If you cannot see the locals window or if you have closed it and if you want to open it, you can do so using the following menu option. Locals window is only available if you are in DEBUG mode. Watch Window in SSMS : Just like Locals window, Watch window is used to watch the values of variables. You can add and remove variables from the watch window. To add a variable to the Watch Window, right click on the variable and select "Add Watch" option from the context menu. Call Stack Window in SSMS : Allows you to navigate up and down the call stack to see what values your application is storing at different levels. It's an invaluable tool for determining why your code is doing what it's doing. Immediate Window in SSMS : Very helpful during debugging to evaluate expressions, and print variable values. To clear immediate window type ]cls and press enter. Breakpoints in SSMS : There are 2 ways to set a breakpoint in SSMS. 1. By clicking on the grey margin on the left hand side in SSMS (to remove click again) 2. By pressing F9 (to remove press F9 again) Enable, Disable or Delete all breakpoints : There are 2 ways to Enable, Disable or Delete all breakpoints 1. From the Debug menu 2. From the Breakpoints window. To view Breakpoints window select Debug =] Windows =] Breakpoints or use the keyboard shortcut ALT + CTRL + B Conditional Breakpoint : Conditional Breakpoints are hit only when the specified condition is met. These are extremely useful when you have some kind of a loop and you want to break, only when the loop variable has a specific value (For example loop varible = 100). How to set a conditional break point in SSMS : 1. Right click on the Breakpoint and select Condition from the context menu 2. In the Breakpoint window specify the condition Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/debugging-sql-server-stored-procedures.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/debugging-sql-server-stored-procedures_28.html

Use NOCOPY to Improve Performance

05:15
The NOCOPY parameter hint tells the PL/SQL compiler to pass OUT and IN-OUT parameters "by reference" (meaning: do not copy in, nor copy out). The result is better performance and reduced PGA consumption. ====================================== Practically Perfect PL/SQL with Steven Feuerstein Copyright © 2015 Oracle and/or its affiliates. COALESCE IN ORACLE SQL

06:50
This video is the 4th video in the series of 'working with null', this video explains the working of the coalesce function in oracle sql. Also the video explains the use of coalesce function in oracle sql queries by perfect simple and easy to understand examples. COALESCE returns the first non-null expr in the expression list. You must specify at least two expressions. If all occurrences of expr evaluate to null, then the function returns null. Oracle Database uses short-circuit evaluation. The database evaluates each expr value and determines whether it is NULL, rather than evaluating all of the expr values before determining whether any of them is NULL. If all occurrences of expr are numeric datatype or any non numeric datatype that can be implicitly converted to a numeric datatype, then Oracle Database determines the argument with the highest numeric precedence, implicitly converts the remaining arguments to that datatype, and returns that datatype.

To create a new table, enter the keywords create table followed by the table name, followed by an open parenthesis, followed by the first column name, followed by the data type for that column, followed by any optional constraints, and followed by a closing parenthesis. It is important to make sure you use an open parenthesis before the beginning table, and a closing parenthesis after the end of the last column definition. Make sure you seperate each column definition with a comma. All SQL statements should end with a ";". The table and column names must start with a letter and can be followed by letters, numbers, or underscores - not to exceed a total of 30 characters in length. Do not use any SQL reserved keywords as names for tables or column names (such as "select", "create", "insert", etc). Data types specify what the type of data can be for that particular column. If a column called "Last_Name", is to be used to hold names, then that particular column should have a "varchar" (variable-length character) data type. Oracle Forms opening slowly Troubleshooting

06:22
https://amzn.to/2Ph2CbI [affiliate link] We are back again with some issues and solutions. Actually one of my friends asked me regarding performance tuning if forms are opening slow. That time I gave him some ideas and promised him that I will back very soon with some more information. There are lots of factors which may impact the applications but there are some work around which can helpful fixed the issues. One more thing I would like to tell, friends I shared my knowledge’s as per my real time experiences and real life experiences. So, there is not like just copying and pasting the stuff. As already I have shared my real life time stories which I have learned from my life. So, let’s start now. Suppose, our forms are opening slow then what things we should be check and how to debug it. I will try to explain here and share my knowledge. I am sure; it will be useful because it’s having been experienced. 1. We should check which forms are opening slowly either any particular form or all forms. 2. If all forms are opening slowly for particular machine then clear the cache and try again. It can be machine speed slow, machine hardware and bandwidth speed. If all forms are opening slow and for all machine then we really need to check below things such as: A. Check whether Trace is enabled or disabled and if it is enabled then kindly disabled it. B. Check the top commands if any resources are consuming high CPU usage. C. Check for all Inactive Sessions if it’s there then kill those sessions. D. Check for deadlocks. E. Every user should close the forms and logout properly. But actually we don’t care. We just close windows tab at a time and left for break :D :P but that’s also impact our EBS internally. F. A programmer if ran any program with infinite loops then this also cause a performance issue. That’s why we need to write any program carefully. If program not properly then it may cause deadlock as also which I have explained it in my previous posts. G. It can also be because of increasing the number of users. Also need to check users have one active session. H. Check for the Performance Pack (Native I/O) is turned on for WLS. And most and always we use this method. If the users have issue for any custom forms then we should follow below steps which are easy and very effective. When he run the program that time you should follow below steps: 1. Enable the Trace file. Login to front-end - Help - Diagnostics - Trace - "Trace with Binds and waits” . Then there will be a trace file generate under below patch: $cd $ORACLE_HOME/admin/$CONTEXT_NAME/udump Now you can run either Trace Analyzer or tkprof as shown below commands: Trace Analyzer command: $sqlplus apps/apps_password SQL START TRCANLZR.sql UDUMP ora-data_ora1919.trc; TKPROF command: $ORACLE_HOME/admin/$CONTEXT_NAME/udump $tkprof ora-data_ora_1919.trc ora-data_ora_1919.txt explain=apps/apps_pwd Hope this may useful and helpful. We will come back again with new troubleshooting and solution as what we should do if forms opening slow after increasing the number of session. For any concerns or suggestions please reach to us either by comment box or contact us @ ora-data.blogspot.com.
