How to Create a Table of Content in WordPress Posts and Pages
Do you want to add a Wikipedia style table of contents to some of your longer articles? Tables of contents make it easy to jump to a specific section that they want to read. In this video, we will show you how to create a table of contents in WordPress posts and pages without HTML or CSS. For this tutorial we will be using the Easy Table of Contents plugin found here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-table-of-contents/ With the plugin activated you will want to go under Settings, Table of Contents to view the plugin's settings. You have options for the position, label, and what type of content the table will appear on and have in it. With the plugin active and set up, there will now be a table of contents section where you can manage the table of contents for that specific post. Once you write an article with the required headings for the plugin to see your table of contents on the published page. The table of contents will pull from the headers you allowed and will place them in a box at the top of your content. When a user clicks on one of the links they will be brought to the specific section on the page where they can begin reading. WordPress: how to change the font (size / type / color) on your entire website
WordPress: how to change the font (size / type / color) on your entire site Full article: http://imstartpage.com/change-font-wordpress-font-type-size-color Find or convert hex colors: http://imstartpage.com/color-code-conversion-tool-rgb-hex-cmyk Follow me on other media: ►Website: http://www.guidoshowtos.com ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/guidoshowtos ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/guidoshowtos ►Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Guidoshowtos Full instructions: The method I'm going to show, will change the default font on your entire website. The default font on your site is specified by a file called a 'stylesheet'. The stylesheet is part of your current WordPress theme. So; to change your font, you'll have to edit your stylesheet. To find out exactly what to edit, you can use a feature in Google Chrome; right-click the font you want to change, and then click 'inspect element'. On the right side of the menu, you'll see exactly what parts of the stylesheet are being used to make your site look the way it looks. Here, scroll down until you find something that says 'font'. OK, this is the part that specifies what fonts are being used on your site. You can have a look at the entire stylesheet by clicking this link. To change the font in WordPress, we need to find this part of the stylesheet in the back-end of WordPress. Because your stylesheet contains hundreds of lines of code, an easy way to find it is to use Google Chrome's search feature. So, I'm going to copy this part of the code, and add it in the search bar later. To edit your stylesheet, go to your dashboard, then click 'Appearance', and then 'Editor'. By default, it'll open the stylesheet, so that's style.css. Now press Ctrl+F to bring up the search bar, a and paste the text you copied earlier. This will bring you to the exact code you need to edit. For 'Font size', change the number to make your font smaller or larger. To change the font type, edit the name of the font, for 'font-family'. The first one in the line is the one that's going to be used. For 'color', enter the color you want to use. These are specified in the hexadecimal format (hex). When you're done making changes, scroll down and click 'Update file'. And that's it! Go back to your site, and refresh the page to see the changes take effect. And it works; your site is now using a larger font, another font type, and another font color. --- Dutch article: http://websiteopzetten.com/lettertype-font-veranderen-wordpress-type-grootte-kleur/ Also read: http://websiteopzetten.com/webhosting/

How To Edit The WordPress Header | WP Learning Lab
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL How To Edit The WordPress Header | WP Learning Lab The WordPress header is one of those place where a lot of important things happen. Scripts are called, integrations are set up and validated, stylesheets are imported, and so on. Usually, leaving the header.php file alone is the best plan, but sometimes you have to make additions or changes. Before you do, keep in mind that if you are editing the header.php file of the main theme, then updates to that theme can cause your changes to be overwritten. To avoid this, you'll need to create a child theme. Here's a tutorial to help you do just that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8n1h-85SMQ Once you've created the child theme you'll want to duplicate the header.php file into it by following this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebGrw1h6Hog Once you have the header.php file there we can get to work. If you've followed the tutorials above you can now dive into header file and started editing. If you didn't create a child theme, then there are a couple ways to find and edit the header.php file. First, when in your WordPress dashboard you can click on the Appearance menu and then Editor. On the right side of the page you will the list of files in the theme. One of them will be called header.php. Click on that file and it open it so you can edit the WordPress header. Or you can go through the file manager in your cPanel account. Once in the file manager navigate to wp-content/themes/YOURTHEME. The header.php file is normally in the root of a themes directory. You can also connect via FTP to make edits to files. Now that you've found the header.php it goes without saying that you need to be careful. One wrong move in a PHP file and your whole site will go down until you fix the problem. So only edit the WordPress header if you are comfortable with PHP. I hope this information helps you! How to Create, Style & Use Custom Post Types in WordPress
Get more a thttp://www.neilcurtis.me/guides/custom-post-types-on-wordpress-websites/ - Custom post types in WordPress allow you to order and structure your content by placing different types of content (e.g. standard blog post, latest news, tutorials, discounts posts etc.) into different (custom) post types. So instead of just making everything a Post or a Page you can create your own like Products, Reviews etc. This video shows how I use custom post types across four different websites to give you an idea of how useful they can be. I create and style all of my custom post types using a Plugin called Toolset (http://www.neilcurtis.me/go/toolset/), which includes two separate plugins called Types & Views. How to Create a Separate Page for Blog Posts in WordPress
WordPress displays your content in a blog format on the homepage normally but not all sites should be displayed that way. Some sites you want to display a welcome page or other custom content but can still find use for your posts. In this video we will show you how to create a separate page for blog posts in WordPress. You would want to start by creating two new pages on your site one to be the new home page and another to be the page where you list your blog posts. For the home page you will want to add whatever content to it that you want someone visiting your site to see first. For the posts page you will want to leave that blank for your posts to be added to the page. With the pages set up you will now go back to your admin area under Settings, Reading. From this page you can set your separate blog page by changing how your home page is displayed to a static page where you can set your home and posts page to the pages you want. Now that you have set your page for blog posts you will need to ensure there is a method to find your posts. Under Appearance, Menus you can add the pages to your menu and ensure to include them in your menu and the menu display checkbox is checked. With that you now have a separate page for your blog posts in WordPress. How to Add a Featured Content Slider in WordPress
Do you want to add a featured content slider like Yahoo or ESPN? Many popular sites have content sliders to show their latest content but not all themes have a built in slider. In this video we will show you how to add a featured content slider in WordPress. If you liked this video, then please Like and consider subscribing to our channel for more WordPress videos. Text version of this tutorial: http://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-add-a-featured-content-slider-in-wordpress/ Check us out on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wpbeginner Follow us on Twitter: http://twitter.com/wpbeginner Join our circle on Google+: https://plus.google.com/+wpbeginner/ Checkout our website for more WordPress Tutorials http://www.wpbeginner.com/ Summary of this Tutorial: Start by installing and activating the Soliloquy plugin and activating your license. You will need the developer level license for this. Click the addons tab then find, install, and activate the Featured Content and Themes addons. Create a new slider under Soliloquy, Add New and you will see an option for featured content that you will want to select. You can select specific posts or leave it blank to use all posts. Sticky posts can also be included to add at the start of the slider. The post offset will skip that many posts before adding posts to the slider. Adding a link to the post url can be good to allow a direct move to the posts shown. Fallback image is used if a post does not have an image that can be used and it can be anything you like. And many more options available for styling the slider. After clicking publish you can add the slider using the shortcode or adding the template tag to your theme's files. How to Change the Content Width of your WordPress Website
LINK TO CODE: https://therevisionist.org/software-engineering/wordpress/increase-page-width/ If you found this video helpful like it and share it with anyone who might find it useful too. I would appreciate it! So in this tutorial I show you how to change the width of your webpage content area using custom css code. The code that I present is specifically for the colorlib WordPress theme, but can easily be customized for your own website theme; feel free to ask me how if you need help. You need to use the @media min-width code so that your website properly resizes depending upon the screen size of the device. Just changing the width of the content area without setting up a min-width will cause your website to resize in an awful way. --- My Gear (づ⌐■ ͜ʖ■)づ ✪ I need to buy this webcam: http://amzn.to/2fWi3b7 ✪ I like this keyboard a lot: https://therevisionist.org/reviews/the-magicforce-68-keys-mini-mechanical-keyboard/ ✪ This is the mic that I use now: http://amzn.to/2gqS6AO ♥ I love My SSD, so fast!: https://therevisionist.org/reviews/pny-cs1311-internal-ssd/ ✪ HDD vs SSD Reliability: https://therevisionist.org/reviews/ssd-vs-hdd-one-reliable/ ✪ SSD vs HDD power consumption: https://therevisionist.org/reviews/ssd-vs-hdd-power-consumption/ Follow me ┴┬┴┤( ͡° ͜ʖ├┬┴┬ ✪ My Subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bio_Hacking/ ✪ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100010037778391 ✪ Twitter: https://twitter.com/raqib_zaman ✪ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+RaqibZaman So in this tutorial I will be showing you how to increase the width of the content area of your webpage without breaking your website’s responsiveness. The code that I have left at the bottom of this page specifically works for the Colorlib Sparkling theme, however you can easily adjust it so that it works with your own custom theme. What’s @media? First, let me explain how the code works. First, the selector starts with the @media rule that is used in CSS to define different styles rules for the multitudes of different screen sizes of electronic devices. After that comes the (min-width: 1400px) parameters that assigns the minimum width the size of the screen must be in order for the @media rule to trigger. If the @media rule is triggered, then the declaration body or block comes into affect. The declaration body is the code in between the {} curly brackets. Where do I find the selector for my Website content area? So within the first curly brackets you want to add the selector that represents the content area of your website. For the Sparkling theme, that would be .container . If you have a different WordPress theme, then what you can do is right-click the content area of one of your website’s webpages and select Inspect Element or your browser’s equivalent. Hover your mouse cursor up or down the lines of code until the main content area of your webpage is highlighted; this line of code is usually near the top. Then all you have to do is take the selector from the line of code that corresponds to the highlighted main content area. There are two ways to find the selector. 1. Notice in the image above the line of code that is selected: div class=”container main-content-area”. There are actually two selectors you can take from the class=”…” . They are container and main-content-area . Usually the first selector is what you looking for. 2. Alternatively, look at the rules for the selected line of code. If a selector’s declaration body mentions different pixel widths (in order to responsively change content area size depending on device screen size), then you want to choose that selector. What goes in the declaration body of .container? So within the declaration body of .container or the equivalent selector for your website’s main content area, you want assign a width that is slightly smaller than @media’s min-width paramter For example, if min-width is 1400px, you want to assign .container {width:1300px;} . Finally, .main-content-inner.col-sm-12.col-md-8 refers to the content area, whereas #secondary.widget-area.col-sm-12.col-md-4 refers to the sidebar area. I believe they have something to do with bootstrap, if you want to investigate. Read more here: https://therevisionist.org/software-engineering/wordpress/increase-page-width/
