Missing style.css Sheet: WordPress Theme Upload

03:14
Ever get the "Missing style.css sheet" error when uploading a theme to a WordPress installment? Here's what you're doing wrong! If you are having issues uploading your WordPress theme and are receiving the "Missing style.css sheet" error, watch the video to learn how to solve that problem. Oftentimes the .zip file that is needed is actually within a larger .zip file and you are not uploading the correct one. Another common error is you have downloaded a theme that is actually not a WordPress theme, but an HTML theme. It gives you a "missing style.css sheet" error because there isn't in fact a WordPress ready .zip to upload. There are solutions to this by making the theme WordPress compatible but it will take you much more time than simply returning that theme from where it was purchased and finding one created specifically for WordPress use. Make sure to watch the video to solve your question and read the comment section as I've answered numerous questions on the matter too. Please give the video a thumbs up if it helped you! I see numerous thumbs down on the video and I would love nothing more than to help those people find the solution they need so please leave a comment if I didn't provide you the answer within the video!

4 Places To Edit WordPress CSS | WP Learning Lab

08:08
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL 4 Places To Edit WordPress CSS | WP Learning Lab To edit WordPress CSS you first need to know all the places you can find CSS. There are 4 common places. You may not have all these locations on your website because some of them are theme-dependent. The possible CSS locations are: 1. The WordPress theme or child theme stylesheet (this one you have for sure) 2. The theme options panel (this one you may or may not have) 3. A CSS editor on each page and post (this one you may or may not have) 4. Inline CSS applied directly to HTML elements on the page (this one you will have only if you're written it) Let's go through each one. The WordPress theme or child theme stylesheet When inside your WordPress dashboard if you click on Appearance then Editor you will be able to edit theme or child theme files. Usually the style.css is loaded first by default. If it's not loaded find the style.css file in the list of files on the right side of the editor page. When you find it, click on it. That will open the CSS file in WordPress editor. At this point you can make edits to the file and click on the Update button to save your changes. How to actually code CSS is beyond the scope of this tutorial, but you can check out my CSS channel over here (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeFLITjl2v9vtIkftw9UMsw) The danger in editing CSS directly in the stylesheet of the main theme is that what you create may be over written when the theme updates. You get around this problem by creating a child theme (see a tutorial on how to create a WordPress child theme here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8n1h-85SMQ). The theme options panel Not every theme has a theme options panel, but the ones that do make WordPress CSS so much easier to edit. You can simply add CSS to the CSS box in the theme options and click save changes. The upside is that theme updates won't erase the CSS code you create. A CSS editor on each page and post Some themes, like Avada and Divi, give you the option of insert CSS code right into the individual posts and pages of your website. This is great for CSS that you want to be only one page. I would only recommend doing this if you're putting more than 100 lines of CSS into the page. If it's less than 100 lines of CSS you're better to put into the main stylesheet so you stay organized. If it's more than 100 lines of CSS code that only need to exist on one page then your site will load a little bit faster overall by not loading all that CSS into every page. Inline CSS The last place in our list and the last place you'd want to create CSS code is right in your HTML elements. This is called inline CSS and can be difficult to work with for two big reasons. First, you can't apply the CSS to more than one element at a time. So if you want to style all the paragraphs on the page in the same way you have to apply the same CSS code over and over again to each p tag. This is a pain to administer and will result in larger than needed page sizes. Second, if you add inline CSS to lots of pages it will be come difficult to remember what CSS you applied where. Then trying to find it an make edits will become a pain. Inline CSS also takes precedent over CSS in the stylesheet. So you might be make changes to CSS in the stylesheet, but nothing is happening on the page. You'll go through a frustrating few minutes before you figure out the CSS is actually inline on the page. I hope this information helps you! How To Edit WordPress Theme CSS Styles

08:53
http://wordpresspowersites.org/how-to-edit-wordpress-theme-css-styles/ How To Edit WordPress Theme CSS Styles As a web developer, I frequently wrangle with codes. one of such is building and customizing WordPress Themes. Am a big fan of WordPress Genesis framework, i do use it to build amazing WordPress themes. I also install and further customize their child themes to suite my style. If you really want to know, my blog is using the Genesis Focus Theme. I have seen quite a number of WordPress users making CSS changes inside the wordpress theme template core stylesheet. I do wonder, what if something goes wrong, how do you revert back to the initial design? Some will say, they do make backup of their theme before making any changes to the CSS. i see that as a pain in the ass. Reasons You Shouldn't Alter Your WordPress Theme CSS stylesheet Damage Of Theme -- Not everyone has the habit of always backing up files before editing. If for example, you made a change to your theme style sheet, and after previewing, you didn't like the output, you may have difficulty changing or reverting the changes. Mind you, CTRL-Z won't work 'cos the browser was loaded when you saved the changes, therefore, you can't undo the change. Keep Theme Design Even After Update -- If you make changes to your theme files, all your customization will be lost if you update the theme to the latest version. If you follow the best practice rule below, you may still have your site customization even after an update only if the update didn't change the CSS ids and classes of the theme. but the customization can be lost if it was a major theme update like from version 1.5 to maybe 2.0 It can speed up theme customization time. For those of us using WordPress theme framework like Genesis, Thesis, e.t.c that develop themes as child themes of their framework, it is advisable you don't make any changes to the CSS style sheet. rather Get either the CSS ID, class or both controlling the design of the theme and add either an Internal Style Sheet or External Style Sheet below the theme external stylesheet. NOTE -- adding the new stylesheet you want to overwrite the theme CSS must not be above the default WordPress CSS stylesheet else it won't have an effect. More on WordPress Theme CSS Practice ALTERNATIVELY There are plugins that can save you of the above stress. all you need do is, place the CSS you want to over-rule in the specified plugin textarea, save and preview the output. Some of this custom WordPress custom CSS plugins include: Jetpack Custom -- If you are new to WordPress or even if you are a Pro, i advice you install and use Jetpack my Automattic(founder of WordPress). one of the feature that come with it is the Custom CSS. i personally use it to make CSS changes to my theme. to use this jetpack feature, you have to install Jetpack plugin. PC Custom CSS -- This plugin provides an easy and effective way to use your own custom CSS code with any theme. it a top-notch plugin when it comes to adding custom CSS. saying from my experience using it. WP Live CSS Editor -- A CSS live Editor that allows you to edit, preview changes and save all your project's CSS stylesheets live in the browser. My Custom CSS -- With this plugin you can put custom css code without edit your theme and/or your plugins (really useful in case of any theme/plugin update). Live CSS Preview -- This plugin adds a textarea to the new Customize page that allows theme editors to write, preview & implement css code in real-time. Best Custom CSS -- This plugin help you to manage your css files with an easy and convenient method directly from WordPress dashboard. Custom CSS Manager -- Simple plugin to manage Custom CSS Code to change the appearance of your WordPress website. This Plugin stores the CSS Code in the WordPress Options Database. Your Custom CSS -- Add your own CSS to your WordPress Backend and Frontend. How to Edit Wordpress Style CSS

01:16
Follow this step by step guide to learn how to edit wordpress style sheet and see how to alter wordpress fonts. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ Style sheet basically contains all the formatting and appearance settings of a web page. In wordpress, we can also modify the effects and appearance through wordpress style .CSS. In this tutorial, we will be editing CSS of wordpress. Step 1 -- Open Editor First of all, move your mouse over appearance tab from the left pane of your dashboard and click on the Editor Option. Step 2 -- Style Sheet Editor After that, an editor will open up from where we can edit different wordpress configuration files. By default, the first file which appears is the wordpress style.CSS file which we have to edit. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will teach you how to alter some fonts through the style sheet. In order to do so, scroll down and find the font-size option. By default, it is 100 %. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will reduce it to 80 %. Once you are done, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the update file button. Wordpress will notify us that the file has been updated. Step 3 -- Site's Font Decreased Now we will visit the site and you will notice that the font size has been reduced. The font size of whole of the page was reduced because we altered the portion of CSS, which contains the font property for the complete page. Step 4 -- Increase font size of Site's Title Now we will go back to the editor again in order to make some further changes. Once there, scroll down until you find "site- title anchor" class. This class is responsible for the appearance of site title. Let us increase the font size from 30 pixels to 50 pixels. Once you're done, refresh the site and you will notice that the font size of the site title will increase. And this was all about editing CSS of wordpress.

How To Edit The WordPress Header | WP Learning Lab

04:37
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL How To Edit The WordPress Header | WP Learning Lab The WordPress header is one of those place where a lot of important things happen. Scripts are called, integrations are set up and validated, stylesheets are imported, and so on. Usually, leaving the header.php file alone is the best plan, but sometimes you have to make additions or changes. Before you do, keep in mind that if you are editing the header.php file of the main theme, then updates to that theme can cause your changes to be overwritten. To avoid this, you'll need to create a child theme. Here's a tutorial to help you do just that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8n1h-85SMQ Once you've created the child theme you'll want to duplicate the header.php file into it by following this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebGrw1h6Hog Once you have the header.php file there we can get to work. If you've followed the tutorials above you can now dive into header file and started editing. If you didn't create a child theme, then there are a couple ways to find and edit the header.php file. First, when in your WordPress dashboard you can click on the Appearance menu and then Editor. On the right side of the page you will the list of files in the theme. One of them will be called header.php. Click on that file and it open it so you can edit the WordPress header. Or you can go through the file manager in your cPanel account. Once in the file manager navigate to wp-content/themes/YOURTHEME. The header.php file is normally in the root of a themes directory. You can also connect via FTP to make edits to files. Now that you've found the header.php it goes without saying that you need to be careful. One wrong move in a PHP file and your whole site will go down until you fix the problem. So only edit the WordPress header if you are comfortable with PHP. I hope this information helps you!
