Great bikes, but annoying lack of published bike weights. This is an moderately complete list of the popular 2015 Giant bikes (based upon the international range) to help provide you the information you need. Most people know that there is more to a bike than just the weight (e.g. stiffness/power transfer, comfort/reduced rider fatigue from lack of harshness, aero triumphs over weight under certain use cases). Be aware I have made no differentiation between frame materials in this list. I also really suggest you test ride the Giant models you are interested in rather than just looking at specs and weight to compare against other brands. I have personally been blown away by my lovely 2015 Giant TCR but may have ruled it out purely based upon weight. Tolerances ('scuse spelling mistake in vid) are within 8% and also specs could well change at any time, also affecting these recorded weights. Hope this information helps.

Giant Bicycles began as an OEM manufacturer of bicycles for other companies before launching its own brand in 1972. Giant is now a powerhouse brand of craftsmanship, value, and pure quality. We recently had Giant Canada, Prairies Territory Manager, Dean Kendell visit the bike shop for a 2018 product knowledge seminar at Giant Edmonton. Giant continues to improve not only the cycling industry but also the bicycles we all love to ride. From the strands of carbon fiber to finished bikes and carbon-frame technology used by many, many other brands, Giant is the only brand to engineer and build its own bicycles from the smallest frame ingredient. As Edmonton’s Bike Shop, we take pride in knowing the sport of cycling and the vast products we carry and service. The Trance line-up of bikes is really a great mountain bike for Edmonton and surrounding areas. With our Maestro suspension platform, which is so hard to beat for the value, the Trance 2 is a bike that goes out the Giant Edmonton front door before it has time sit idle. Trance line-up: http://www.giantedmonton.com/ca/bikes-trance Dean talks about the Defy line-up of race bikes including the Giant Defy Advanced SL disc that Team Sunweb will be riding in the 2018 Paris-Roubaix. Defy Advanced SL: http://www.giantedmonton.com/ca/bikes-defy-advanced-sl On to the TCR Advanced Pro, which as Dean puts it, “If you’re earning a paycheck riding your bike, this is the bike you’re gonna ride”. The TCR has a victorious heritage, dating back to 1997, as being a cycling game changer and has earned a place in cycling history as the landmark bike that challenged the conventions of road bicycle design. TCR Advanced Pro: http://www.giantedmonton.com/ca/bikes-tcr-advanced-pro-disc Then we chatted about a real windcheater, the all-new Propel Advanced SL Disc. Originally launched in 2013, the Propel now has a disc version that is incredible. In fact, the new version was developed with Team Sunweb riders including 2017 Tour de France points classification winner Michael Matthews. If you are racing in Alberta this year and shaving time off your personal best this bike is the one for the job. Propel Advanced SL 0 Disc: http://www.giantedmonton.com/ca/propel-advanced-sl-0-disc Propel Advanced SL 1 Disc: http://www.giantedmonton.com/ca/propel-advanced-sl-1-disc Propel Advanced Pro Disc: http://www.giantedmonton.com/ca/propel-advanced-pro-disc What was next? E-bikes. An electronic bicycle is a great investment and with double the offerings from 2017, Dean talked about new technology in the Giant E-bike line-up. Motor technology is where we shine. Giant offers three different SyncDrive motor options for its various E-bike models including SyncDrive Pro, Sport, and Life. Pedal assistance starts at 0km and a mere 7 degrees on the cranks so you can climb hills without needing a ton of power to engage the motor. Whether you are riding in Jasper, ripping the trails in the River Valley or commuting to work, there is an E-bike at Giant Edmonton for you. We also carry specific bike trailer for an E-bike. While traveling around Taiwan, we stopped at a few Giant Bike shops that focused mainly on rentals since we were using those bikes for our cycling tour along the east coast of Taiwan from Hualien to Taitung. I was curious how these Giant bike shops compared to the regular stores, so we decided to check out one of the main Giant Bike shops in downtown Taipei to see what the bicycle shops are like here in Taiwan. The shop we visited is pretty small, but makes full use of its space with lots of road bikes hanging from the ceiling. One of those bikes, the Giant TCR Advanced Pro Team, caught my wife's eye and she quickly fell in love... Unfortunately, we don't have the money to buy such a nice road bike right now, but I was still pretty to see some desire from her to get a new bike. There were also a lot of useful components for sale much cheaper than what I can buy in the US and in Japan. Things like bottles, bottle cages, frame bags, bikepacking bags, helmets, etc.. Hope you guys enjoy this tour of this Giant Bike Shop in Taipei, Taiwan! Keep in mind that there are a lot of different Giant stores, and there will likely be some differences depending on where you go. They understood their strengths. So to make cycling more enjoyable and accessible to people around the world, they did what they knew best. They set out to improve the cycling experience by following three guiding principles: craftsmanship, innovation and inspiration. It began with lightweight aluminum frames. Giant’s ability to produce high-quality bikes at an affordable price allowed more riders to experience cycling in a whole new way. Since then, Giant has pioneered advancements in both aluminum and composite engineering. We introduced the first affordable carbon fiber bike, the Cadex 980 C, and transformed high-performance road bikes with our Total Compact Road design. In mountain biking, Giant’s Maestro Suspension established a new level of performance for off-road riding and racing. Over the last four decades, Giant has grown well beyond its manufacturing roots to become the world’s leading brand of quality bicycles and gear. With more than 12,000 retail partners worldwide, we aim to inspire adventure in all riders, from casual to competitive. Giant bikes win world championships. They win design awards, too. But most importantly, they win the hearts of riders who choose to make cycling a part of their lives. We support that choice. We think it makes the world a better place. RIDE LIFE. RIDE GIANT.

Two representatives from Yamaha’s ebike division were on hand at Interbike to talk about their latest technology. This was the first year they had attended the show and Steve Markofski, Business Planner, explained that the Yamaha PW series is being used by two partners in the US right now including Haibike and Giant. He went on to explain that Yamaha first began manufacturing ebike systems in 1993 in Japan. They are a pioneer and have thus far produced 3M+ units. This is the third year the PW system has been on the market but it has only been in the US for a year or so (since late 2015). Yamaha differentiates their system by having a slide-in side mounted battery pack (allowing top tubes to angle lower), multiple chain ring compatibility (I believe up to two rings in the front vs. just one with other centerdrives) and offering a zero-cadence start which is great for mountain riding. Steve made the point that if you decide to ride one of their electric bicycles unpowered it will allow you to choose an optimal gear because of the multi-chainring design… this could be handy if you run out of battery. There is a PWX series coming to the European market but it sounds like that won’t hit the USA market until 2018. There will be some weight savings and power improvement but it’s more of an incremental improvement than a complete recreation. I asked Steve about the lower price points and he called out their LED button pad option vs. the full sized LCD on more expensive bikes. We looked at the $5,300 Giant Dirt-E series which will come in full suspension and hardtail. I noticed that the battery and display were proprietary on this bike, it looks different than the stock Yamaha but they do use the Yamaha PW mid-drive motor. Haibike, by comparison, uses the entire Yamaha system (drive unit, battery and display system). Steve walked me through their “Heritage of Yamaha” timeline which shows what has been happening since 1993 and the history of this division of the company. They had a Japanese model road style ebike on hand which I really liked, it featured drop bars and a super small battery pack mounted to the downtube. The bike weighs something like ~33 lbs so it’s easy to carry and ride if you decide to power off the motor. The E-Assist feature can be turned off easily and there is no drag or cogging to worry about with this bike… which is unfortunately not available in the USA (and is limited to 15.5 mph). Steve explained that in the future they want to be a kit provider for full-bicycle producers, brand partners like Haibike and Giant. Towards the end of our conversation I got some closeup pictures of the Yamaha motor and the clear cutaway one they had on display that shows the actual motor and gearing components inside the drive unit! I wanted to mention that Rob Trester, the Division Manager, was also on hand and answering some of our questions before and after the video here.

This is from our visit to Giant Bicycles' Taichung (Taiwan) factory and world headquarters. First part shows wheels being tensioned after being hand laced. From here, they go on to be trued and wrapped with tubes and tires. Meanwhile, workers wrap handlebars faster than any shop rat we've ever seen. It all comes together on their assembly line where a complete bike is built every 31 seconds. See the whole process at http://www.bikerumor.com and search "bike blogger tour".

Taken together with the dialled geometry, race-ready build kit and that pitter-patter suspension response, the Giant Reign 0 is one of the most forgiving enduro bikes we’ve tested. | Click here to subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/MBRmagazine?sub_confirmation=1 More at: MBR: http://www.mbr.co.uk/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MBRmagazine Twitter: https://twitter.com/mbrmagazine Google +: https://plus.google.com/100709099986573088553

http://www.youtube.com/bikemanforu What makes a touring bike more similar to a road frame than a hybrid? BikemanforU's answer is what makes Giant USA's older OCR series a good choice for a used bike today. He starts with an OCR 3's drop-down handlebar. "This was a pretty nice aluminum frame bike that would get you back into the game," he says, adding that you wouldn't get laughed at on a charity ride or a club ride, either. The triple crank and stretched out geometry give a comfortable ride. We don't know if the top-mount brake levers - (independent mounted - unlike old school safety levers) were original but they can be added as an after-market part. The alloy adjustable stem is another versatile feature for an entry level bicycle - you don't have to ride aggressively in the beginning. (Giant's latest version of this bicycle is the Defy). Giant originally manufactured the OCR series for the casual rider, as well as the cyclist looking to try a century ride or get into training as a triathlete. The versatility lies in the geometry. Giant relaxed its compact road frame just enough to give a comfortable, forgiving ride. The triple cranks - unlike the double on road bikes - make sure you'll be able to climb any hill on your daily commute. Giant's idea was a bike that delivers on performance yet is comfortable enough to ride all day while you get into shape. The OCR series originally retailed for about $700 and up. Their last year of manufacture was 2008, we believe. Bottom line: An OCR makes a good ride for the daily commuter or if you're looking to get back in the saddle and can find one in decent condition. Do you agree with us on the OCR? Post your comment or video responses! Of course, just about any old bicycle will do if you're looking to be a short-hop commuter. Cycling Plus / BikeRadar announced the 2018 TCR Advanced 2 as their ‘bike of the year’, one of the industry’s most coveted bike awards. With 48 bikes tested, featuring 25 other brands and spread over 4 categories, the testing was as thorough as it’s ever been, with the TCR coming out as the top bike across all categories. Featuring the same frame design as used by the pro riders of Team Sunweb, The TCR’s speed was immediately felt; “On the flat, you’re rapidly up to speed, and immediately feel how lively the bike is”. Despite the TCR’s racing heritage, Cycling Plus noted that the bike is a “rare beast that will appeal to racier riders but won’t scare those who prefer more recreational riding”, making it ideal for most type of riders who are looking for all round performance in their bike. Sometimes the best quality in a bike is how it makes you feel when you ride it, with the TCR Advanced quite clearly making a big impression on the Cycling Plus tester; “Any bike that makes every ride better, and makes you feel like a better rider is a very worthy winner, irrespective of its price or the components it carries” The 2018 bike of the year winner was summed up as “smooth, supple, and very fast, the TCR advanced 2 will make anyone feel like a better rider.” Shop the 2018 Bike of the year at www.usjcycles.com.
