Fashion is one of the most polluting industries on earth and to become sustainable the entire industry has to undergo a seismic shift. This week we meet the designers and disruptors who are looking to change the future of fashion. ___________________________________________________________ Sustainable Fashion was searched more times on google than ever before last year and the fashion community is coming under ever greater pressure to make changes to the way the entire industry operates; which in the last two decades has been a race to the bottom, producing a new collection every week and making fast and cheap the priority. Fashion has a big environmental footprint using lots of water, chemicals and carbon to get garments to shops. There are some incredible brands and activists who are working to change the industry for the better from using cutting edge fabrics in their design to encouraging shoppers to repair, remake and rewear their clothes. IN THIS VIDEO WE MEET: Mary Creagh MP, the Chair of the governmental environmental audit committee for sustainable fashion who have just bought out their recommendations for government, businesses and individuals on reducing the environmental impact of fashion. You can read their full report here:https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201719/cmselect/cmenvaud/1952/1952.pdf Zoe Patridge is the founder of Wear the Walk a rental fashion company which lets customers rent designer outfits on a subscription service or for a one off fee. Rental services like this are aiming to reduce the amount of clothes we buy and throw in the bin, like a ‘Netflix for your wardrobe’: https://www.wearthewalk.co.uk Riona Treacy, is a designer who just had her first collection and London Fashion Week. All of her clothes are handmade in the UK and all the fabrics are sources in the UK and Ireland: https://rionatreacy.com/pages/about Wondering what we can do to reduce the impact of our clothes? CHOOSE CLOTHES YOU LOVE THAT WILL LAST If you are able to save up to invest in pieces that you really love and are going to be able to wear for years rather than just a season. DO YOUR RESEARCH Before you buy something do some digging around, become a fashion detective and see if you can find out who made your clothes, how they were made and what they are made from. REPAIR Repair is a radical act says Rose Marcario CEO of Patagonia and we agree with her, repairing something that you might normally replace is to become and owner rather than a consumer and a great way of making the clothes you love last longer. REUSE Pass the wardrobe gems that don't do it for you anymore onto pals or to charity shops and buy second hand where you can making use of the amazing fashion that already exists on the planet. Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe A building collapsed killing more than 1,000 garment workers in Bangladesh last month. The disaster showed the terrible working conditions, and lack of safety, for millions of workers there. Both Bangladesh and the global community are coming to terms with their roles in the disaster, because whether consumers shop at Walmart or at Giorgio Armani, the clothes they buy are probably produced in Bangladesh, which is ranks number two in the world for garment production. And that is because garment workers in Bangladesh are the lowest earners in the world. Workers expect to earn 24 cents an hour, with some wages as low as $38 a month - a lot lower than the rate in the world's other big apparel producing markets. So, can Bangladesh make a change to a properly regulated garments industry? And what would this change mean for the industry? We discuss the options on Counting the Cost. At Al Jazeera English, we focus on people and events that affect people's lives. Last week I talked about specializations and market segments in fashion design. This week, I wanted to talk about job opportunities that aren't exactly fashion design but are other design jobs and non-design jobs in the fashion industry. Other Design Jobs In Fashion 1. Print Designers 2. Textile Designers 3. Trims Designers 4. Accessories Designers 5. Jewelry Designers Non-Design Fashion Jobs That Work Along-Side Fashion Designers 1. Technical Designers 2. Patternmakers 3. Colorists Other Non-Design Fashion Jobs 1. Fashion Media / Journalists 2. Fashion Buyers 3. Stylists 4. Trend Forecasters 5. Fashion Design Teachers 6. Fashion Illustrators This is NOT an exhaustive list. I made this list to give some ideas of other opportunities in fashion besides fashion design. What would be your dream job in the fashion industry if it wasn't fashion design? Choose from the list or let me know one you've thought of! Every time I visit any Fashion events, this has been one of the topics that often come up. Can Artificial Intelligence AI replace fashion designers? Fashion designer thinks it can not but tech folks say it can be done. So I started researching into what has been done and found 3 great examples for you. I want to give you a glimpse of what Amazon, Stitch Fix, and Myntra have been doing and using AI to design clothes. *************** Amazon: AI fashion designer *************** The effort points to ways in which Amazon and other companies could try to improve the tracking of trends in other areas of retail—making recommendations based on products popping up in social-media posts, for instance. And it could help the company expand its clothing business * “There’s been a whole move from companies like Amazon trying to understand how fashion develops in the world,” says Kavita Bala, a professor at Cornell University who took part in a workshop on machine learning and fashion organized by Amazon last week. A number of forward-thinking retailers are already using social networks like Instagram and Pinterest to track the latest fashion trends and react quickly. An Amazon team at Lab126, a research center based in San Francisco, has developed an algorithm that learns about a particular style of fashion from images, and can then generate new items in similar styles from scratch—essentially, a simple AI fashion designer. This work uses a cutting-edge tool called a generative adversarial network, or GAN. It consists of two deep neural networks operating in tandem to learn efficiently from raw data. The GAN internalizes the properties of a particular style simply by looking at lots of examples, and it can then apply that style to an existing item of clothing. *************** Stitch Fix *************** The in-house brand of subscription fashion startup Stitch Fix, Hybrid Designs employs a data science team that works with the company’s order data to predict which clothes customers will want to wear. The team identifies viable gaps in the company’s inventory—clothes that people would buy but a designer hasn’t made yet, says Stitch Fix chief algorithm officer Eric Colson. It works like this: A collection of three algorithms generate a starting point. The first algorithm picks three “parents,” recommended pieces of clothing that could be either combined or used as a template for a new piece. The second suggests three different attributes that have been shown to complement the parents’ style—maybe a different neckline or sleeves. And the third throws in a little bit of randomness, a suggestion that isn’t typical for the previously suggested style but might be interesting. Together, these algorithms search through a space of 30 trillion potential combinations of, for example, blouse attributes, to ultimately give just nine suggestions. *************** Myntra - Moda Rapido *************** Algorithms that would get their machines to produce images of T-shirts based on the discovered favorable attributes. It turned out that one category of the machine-created designs outsold the comparable category in each of the other 12 private brands owned by Myntra. Some of the other machine-created designs sold poorly, but the company knew they were onto something really big. “The core of the Rapid idea was to do fast fashion in an intelligent way, given that we have both a tech and a fashion DNA,” said Kenghe. “In the initial phase of the project, there was less machine and more designer-input. Over a period of time, there’s been more machine and less supervision.” Here&Now & Moda Rapido: By September, Moda Rapido and Here&Now were together bringing in sales of Rs12-13 crore every month, making them among the top 15 brands at Myntra. The two contribute 12.5% of Myntra’s private brand's sales, said, Narayanan. Moda Rapido and Here&Now are Myntra’s most profitable brands, **************** Other Videos You Might Like: **************** 13 Areas Artificial Intelligence will affect Fashion Industry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9Lp51oiCTo What is Artificial Intelligence? February IELTS speaking test questions & answers: http://ieltsspeakingquestions.blogspot.com/2016/02/clothing-you-received-as-a-gift-recently.html Questions about: job, work, computers, learning, future plans, clothes, gifts, fashion, designer clothes, young people, old people, trendy clothes, uniforms How to pass the IELTS Speaking Test | Part 3 Top tips on how to respond to Part 3 questions in the IELTS speaking test In section 3 of the IELTS speaking test, the IELTS examiner asks you some additional questions (follow up questions) related to the topic you speak about in Part 2 of the test (the Cue Card Topic). The time allowance for Part 3 in the IELTS test is 4 to 5 minutes. How many questions you are asked will depend on the length of the answers you give to each question – around 40 seconds per question is a good guide. The format of the questions in part 3 is as follows: Part 3 consists of two main questions (Q1 and Q2), and each main question has three sub questions. Time management is important in this section of the test because if you spend 4 minutes answering the first question and the three sub questions – you will not be asked the second main question (Q2) and sub questions. Why is this important? Because instead of responding to six questions in total – you will respond to only three. The IELTS examiner only allows for four minutes in total. Therefore, if you speak for four minutes in response to Q1 – you will have no more time available to try and answer any other questions. It’s possible that some of the other questions provide a better opportunity for you to talk. For some test takers, it might be easier to give shorter answers (40 seconds) and attempt to answer all six questions. Important: Part 3 questions are related to the topic you talk about in Part 2 of the IELTS speaking test. This means that if you receive a Part 2 Cue Card Topic about food, for example, then the Part3 questions will also be related to food, in general. Part 3 Question Examples: We have been discussing a popular type of food in your country, and now I’d like to ask some more questions about this subject in general. Question 1 Firstly, I would like to discuss what things make a specific kind or style of food become popular in a country. Can you suggest some things which make a certain type of food popular? • Which types of food are the most popular in your country? • Why do you think these particular types of food are the most popular? • Do you think that other types of food might be popular in the future? Question 2 Now, let’s continue and talk about national variations in styles of food. Why do you think different types of food become popular in different countries? • Do you think it is important to be able to correctly cook the national food of the country you are born in? • What are some of the ways in which people can learn about and learn to appreciate food from different countries? • Do you think it’s possible that there might only be one kind of global food sometime in the future? Good luck in your IELTS Speaking Test!

Fashion design student Margaret Burton (B.F.A. Fashion Design ’16) created a senior thesis collection that offers a thought-provoking response to “fast fashion,” the fashion industry phenomenon that involves expediting the production of clothes in order to move catwalk trends into stores quickly and cheaply. Using textiles sourced by deconstructing items of clothing that came from friends, family, and thrift stores, Burton created the distinctive silhouettes she was seeking in looks that are the antithesis of disposable fashion. Burton’s collection was selected to be shown in the 2016 Pratt Fashion Show on May 5. This short video explores the thinking and processes that went into creating her collection.

Historically, the fashion industry has been known to exclude people of color when in reality people of color start almost every fashion trend you can think of. We wanted to bring this conversation to light. Because we love fashion and want to be a part of this industry, we want to continue to use our platform and content to showcase inclusive imagery that we want to see in mainstream fashion media. We believe anyone can be a part of the fashion industry no matter what size, race, sex, or gender etc!! What are you thoughts on the fashion industry? ◀︎Read more about this topic: H&M Ad: https://www.businessoffashion.com/articles/opinion/op-ed-hms-monkey-ad-racist-tone-deaf-or-just-plain-stupid Marc Jacobs Runway Show: https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2016/sep/17/marc-jacobs-defends-himself-dreadlocks-furore Teen Vogue: https://www.teenvogue.com/gallery/fashion-diversity-top-moments-2017 Modeling Industry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L5uYojEJTw Stay tuned for more upcoming videos!!! ➡️ Links to our socials: Instagram: http://instagram.com/thecomplexgirls Twitter: http://twitter.com/thecomplexgirls Facebook: http://facebook.com/thecomplexgirls ▶︎Music: DJ Grumble- From Wherever via soundcloud.com

How to use Google Trends for internet marketers... The 2019 edition! Learn how to leverage Google's data to compare trends in keywords, niches and topic ideas in seconds. Use Google Trends for your market research to get a competitive edge on your competition, every time! Google trends was officially launched in May of 2006 and has become one of the world's most powerful niche and market research tool available free to you, every day! Whether you are trying to compare keyword search volume over time, or identifying which niches are currently trending to focus your marketing efforts, with a few clicks of the mouse you will be able to visually identify what is trending in the mindset of your target audience. If you want more help with keyword research and how to create your master keyword list, watch this video next: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eofkzs0fVOA Why is it important to know what is trending in the mass consciousness of your target market? Easy... People turn to Google's search bar for their deepest and most urgent questions. The questions they search and the phrases they use to create a massive dataset that begins to paint a picture of the biggest desires within your audience. Once you understand what the trending desires and questions are within your target market, you are able to create niche websites, articles, videos, podcast episodes, products and services to help your audience achieve their true desires. You see, desire is not created within your audience... Their desires are already there. Your job as an internet marketer is to tap into their desires, answer their questions, help them avoid their fears and ultimately achieve their goals and desires. When you are able to see what questions, desires and fears are trending, in nearly real-time, you have a very clear picture of what content and products are being requested by your audience. The Google Trends tool is the key to unlock this mystery behind your audience's deepest desires! This video shows you how to use Google Trends in 2018, quickly and efficiently so you can get the information you need, fast... And so you can get back to the 'work' that is creating the content or products. We start by looking at how to use Google Trends as a niche research tool, starting with the 'Vegan Dog Food' niche example I've used in several other videos. If you are at this point, working on niche research, trying to find your main niche, be sure to check out my playlist on niche research that shows how to use other tools to do even more niche research: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIZxKpnesTw&list=PL0sOKzn__yK3bPvVRts4CXOtPciYcu7iZ From here we move on to some big trending topics around Bitcoin and Ethereum looking at how the search volumes even track the price of these coins, to show how deep the Google Trends data truly goes. From here you will learn how to get additional topic ideas and keyword ideas from the Trends tool, too. The third example is how to identify seasonal trends, patterns and potential challenges for niches that have very seasonal buying seasons. Before entering a niche you need to know if it is consistent throughout the year or if it has low points through the year. If there are low points, all is not lost... You will see how to find counter-seasonal topics or products to fill in your low season through this tool! Finally, we look at trends in diet patterns, from the New Year's bump to the long-term patterns in lifestyle diets vs. diet fads. This gives a clear picture of what kinds of products people would purchase and what times of years would have the best chance to sell those products. If you have a list in the health and wellness space, you could leverage this information to know exactly what day each year would be the most profitable to launch a specific product offer, whether it is your product or an affiliate offer. Again, I believe it is through more effective and consistent market research that you unlock the opportunity to be more strategic than your competitors. Most people don't take the time to do the research... If you habituate the process of learning how to use Google Trends and the keyword research tool, you will find yourself gaining rankings in your blog, your YouTube channel and you will experience more conversions. My other favorite research process for niche research and content marketing is keyword research. You can get my full keyword research video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_FfdjNOgpQ Once you have the keywords and have created your content, you need to know how to implement those phrases into your content marketing... This free SEO course shows exactly what to do, where and why! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8EI6JaFbv4 How To Use Google Trends, 2018 Update! Market Research To Compare Keywords, Topics & Niches, Fast! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u75nbWDqymA
