What is GENERIC BRAND? What does GENERIC BRAND mean? GENERIC BRAND meaning - GENERIC BRAND definition - GENERIC BRAND explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Generic brands of consumer products (often supermarket goods) are distinguished by the absence of a brand name. It is often inaccurate to describe these products as "lacking a brand name", as they usually are branded, although with either the brand of the store where they are sold or a lesser-known brand name which may not be aggressively advertised to the public. They are identified more by product characteristics. They may be manufactured by less prominent companies or manufactured on the same production line as a 'named' brand. Generic brands are usually priced below those products sold by supermarkets under their own brand (frequently referred to as "store brands" or "own brands"). Generally they imitate these more expensive brands, competing on price. Generic brand products are often of equal quality as a branded product; however, the quality may change suddenly in either direction with no change in the packaging if the supplier for the product changes. A variation on this that is common in the United States is private labeling: brand names owned by the store that sells the product, that are not the same as the name of the store. For example, supermarket chain Safeway, Inc. sells dairy products under the 'Lucerne' brand, while the Kroger's line of supermarkets sells products under several names, ranging from the top quality 'Private Selection' down to the budget-driven line 'Kroger Value'. Many name brand companies are thought to have better quality products than generic brand products. Membership-based "warehouse club" stores have begun their own contract-packed brands. The Wal-Mart owned Sam's Club sells products under the name 'Member's Mark', Costco sells products under the name 'Kirkland Signature' (a reference to former corporate home office location, Kirkland, Washington), and BJ's Wholesale Club sells products branded 'Berkley & Jensen' (a store self-reference: "B & J"). In addition to price and nutrition, evidence suggests that quality is equal to, if not better than, established brands. In the 2007 Whisky Bible several supermarket single malts were rated higher than top-brand distilleries, with Tesco having the highest rating own-brand. Rather than offering a single own-brand alternative, supermarkets have in recent years introduced 'premium' and 'value' ranges offering varying quality and price. Some supermarkets advertise the quality of their premium own-brands for example Sainsbury's television commercial featuring celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. Value supermarket brands are sold at considerably less than known brands, sometimes even below cost price, to entice the shopper into the store. Despite perceived lower quality, supermarket own-brands continue to sell and a trading standards investigation found that there was little nutritional or taste difference between value and regular products. When patent protection expires on a drug, a bioequivalent version may be sold as a "generic" version of the brand name drug, typically at a significant discount below the brand name. The utility of these products is considered to be the same as that of the original brand name. When a brand name is associated with every manufacturer’s product in the category it is said to have become genericized. These brand names are still legally protected but, from the point of view of the consumer, the name is synonymous with the product. Examples of genericization include Band-Aid, Vaseline and Kleenex. ....

Check out our New Biography Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/biographics A trademark usually presents itself in the form of a name, a logo, a design, or a phrase, with the purpose of distinguishing one manufacturer’s products from another. Sometimes, however, when business is really good for a particular brand, or it has a head start over the competition, then that particular brand might just become a proprietary eponym, or generic trademark. This means that if a product develops a substantial market share over the other manufacturers, or it becomes well ingrained into the public consciousness, then its brand could replace the name for the entire industry. →Subscribe for new videos every day! https://www.youtube.com/user/toptenznet?sub_confirmation=1 Help us translate our videos: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_queue?msg=10&tab=0 - Learn more why you might want to help: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6052538 Find more lists at: http://www.toptenz.net Entertaining and educational top 10 lists from TopTenzNet! What Are Generic, Descriptive, Suggestive, Arbitrary, Fanciful Trademarks? Andrei, the founder of Trademark Factory®, answers this frequently asked question in this video. Secure Your Brand with Trademark Factory® Risk-Free, Guaranteed. https://www.trademarkfactory.com If you have a name or a logo you want to protect, BOOK A FREE CALL with our strategy advisors at https://trademarkfactory.com/call If it's worth promoting, it's worth protecting! ____ There are 5 degrees how trademarks are measured in terms of their strength. Some of them are registrable, and some of them are not. Least registrable trademarks are generic trademarks. A trademark that is simply the common name for the product or the service is called generic. If I am selling pens, the word “Pen” would be generic if somebody wanted to trademark that. If I am selling cars I can’t trademark the word “Car.” If I am selling the trademarking services, I can’t register the phrase “Trademarking services”, or just “Trademarking,” or “Trademark.” Slightly above that are descriptive trademarks. Descriptive trademarks are more than just naming the product but they do nothing more than tell the market about certain characteristics, or features, or benefits of your product or service. So if you’re selling printers, you can’t trademark the word “Color,” because that’s the feature of your printers. Or if you’re selling accounting services, “Timely Accounting Services” would be a descriptive trademark. It is not generic—it would be generic, if it had been simply “Accounting,”—because you’re adding something to it, but what you’re adding is only a description of the characteristic of your product or service. So “Timely Accounting Services” or “Pure Gold Bracelets”... Again, the name of the product is “Bracelets”—it’s generic; “Gold”—that’s descriptive; “Pure Gold”—still descriptive. Above that there are suggestive marks. Suggestive marks are those that give the customer some idea about your product or service, but they don’t just describe a main feature, or main characteristic, or one of the main features or characteristics, in a way that adds nothing to the trademark in terms of identity. So the good example here would be “Trademark Factory®”. When you hear the phrase “Trademark Factory”, you know that what we offer is trademarking services, but really, the word “Factory” does not tell you exactly how we are different from others, how are we better than others, it doesn’t tell you anything except that in some shape or form, we offer trademarking services. That’s a suggestive mark. Above that, there are arbitrary marks. They use dictionary words that have nothing to do with the product or the service. And the best example here is “Apple.” Apple is not in the business of selling apples, otherwise it would have been a generic mark. But they use the word “Apple” to sell computers and phones and software. And none of this has anything to do with apples. So they use a dictionary word in connection with unrelated products and services, thus making it an arbitrary mark. And finally there are fanciful trademarks. When you come up with a word that did not exist, that means nothing, it’s not in the dictionary and you just came up with that name and thought it would be a great name for a product or a service, and you give it that name—and it’s also very trademarkable. A good example for that would be—and there are so many of them—and something tells me, if I come up with a name as an example, I would get some comments that actually this means something in some other language, but I’m still going to give it a try. And if I’m wrong with an example, you’re welcome to post your comments and correct me, but you’ll still get the point. So for example, “Sony” or “Yamaha”. This means nothing, at least in English. Some of the most famous fanciful trademarks are Xerox, Kodak, and Exxon. Some other good words that used to be fanciful marks are “Escalator”, “Aspirin,” and “Linoleum.” They used to be fanciful marks that mean nothing, that did not exist, but now they are generic marks or very close to generic marks in case of Aspirin. Somebody came up with a name, they gave this name to a product. But they became so prevalent on the marketplace that people started using those names as generic names. Google is another good example of a trademark that may be on its way to becoming generic. ----------------------------------- Trademark Factory® resources: ★ Website: https://trademarkfactory.com ★ ☆ YouTube Channel: https://youtube.com/trademarkfactory.com ☆ ★ Facebook Page: https://facebook.com/thetrademarkfactory ★ ☆ Twitter: https://twitter.com/realTMfactory ☆ ★ Kick-Ass Brands Show: http://kickassbrandsshow.com ★ ☆ Kick-Ass Brands Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/kickassbrands ☆ #trademark #brand #logo #slogan

What’s in a name? A higher price tag, that’s what! Some things just aren’t worth paying extra, like these 5 items you should never buy name brand. Take it from the experts at Reviewed.com, How Stuff Works and The Daily Meal. Read my lips; stop buying pricey lipstick! The folks at Reviewed.com say name brand lipstick doesn’t always have better ingredients, but costs more because of expensive ad campaigns. You’ll really clean up at the register if you buy generic cleaning products. How Stuff Works says most products aren’t much different, besides the smell. Name brand bottled water is a waste of money. The store brand is usually much cheaper and Reviewed.com reports most bottled water is basically just tap water, even when it says it comes from natural sources. Just get a filter for your faucet or put a pitcher in the fridge. Save money buying generic over-the-counter remedies and prescription medications. Both name-brand and generic versions are held to the same strict standards set by the Food and Drug Administration. Consumer Reports says you can save as much as 73% when buying the generic version of over-the-counter meds. More expensive batteries rarely outlast cheaper versions, according to Reviewed.com. How Stuff Works says that while some name brand batteries may last longer, the generics usually make for a better deal. Talk about the positive side of buying the store brand version! Generic products are great because you get to leverage an existing listing on Amazon. This means you do not have to create a listing, advertise, or worry about ranking it. Just share the buy box from your competitors. Being able to do generic product research is pretty straightforward as well. What is GENERIC TRADEMARK? What does GENERIC TRADEMARK mean? GENERIC TRADEMARK meaning - GENERIC TRADEMARK definition - GENERIC TRADEMARK explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A generic trademark, also known as a genericized trademark or proprietary eponym, is a trademark or brand name that has become the generic name for, or synonymous with, a general class of product or service, usually against the intentions of the trademark's holder. A trademark is said to become genericized when it begins as a distinctive product identifier but changes in meaning to become generic. This typically happens when the products or services with which the trademark is associated have acquired substantial market dominance or mind share, such that the primary meaning of the genericized trademark becomes the product or service itself rather than an indication of source for the product or service. A trademark thus popularized has its legal protection at risk in some countries such as the United States and United Kingdom, as its intellectual property rights in the trademark may be lost and competitors enabled to use the genericized trademark to describe their similar products, unless the owner of an affected trademark works sufficiently to correct and prevent such broad use. Aspirin, heroin, and thermos are examples of trademarks that have become genericized in the US. Genericization or "loss of secondary meaning" may be either among the general population or among just a subpopulation, for example, people who work in a particular industry. Some examples of the latter type from the vocabulary of physicians include the names Luer-Lok (Luer lock), Phoroptor (phoropter), and Port-a-Cath (portacath), which have genericized mind share (among physicians) because (1) the users may not realize that the term is a brand name rather than a medical eponym or generic-etymology term, and (2) no alternative generic name for the idea readily comes to mind. Most often, genericization occurs because of heavy advertising that fails to provide an alternative generic name or that uses the trademark in similar fashion to generic terms. Thus, when the Otis Elevator Company advertised that it offered "the latest in elevator and escalator design," it was using the well-known generic term "elevator" and Otis's trademark "Escalator" for moving staircases in the same way. The Trademark Office and the courts concluded that, if Otis used their trademark in that generic way, they could not stop Westinghouse from calling its moving staircases "escalators", and a valuable trademark was lost through genericization. The pharmaceutical industry affords some protection from genericization of trade names due to the modern practice of assigning a nonproprietary name for a drug based upon chemical structure. Brand-name drugs have well-known nonproprietary names from the beginning of their commercial existence, even while still under patent, preventing the aforementioned problem of "no alternative generic name for the idea readily comes to mind". For example, even when Lipitor was new, its nonproprietary name, atorvastatin, was well known. Examples of genericization before the modern system of generic drugs include aspirin, introduced to the market in 1897, and heroin, introduced in 1898; both were originally trademarks of Bayer AG. U.S. court rulings in 1918 and 1921 found the term to be genericized, stating the company's failure to reinforce the brand's connection with their product as the reason. Bayer's involvement in the Great Phenol Plot during World War I, and subsequently the U.S. declaration of war on Germany, were also involved in the case of aspirin and heroin. A different sense of the word genericized in the pharmaceutical industry refers to products whose patent protection has expired. For example, Lipitor was genericized in the U.S. when the first competing generic version was approved by the FDA in November 2011. In this same context, the term genericization refers to the process of a brand drug losing market exclusivity to generics.

When a generic drug product is approved, it has met rigorous standards established by the FDA with respect to identity, strength, quality, purity, and potency. However, some variability can and does occur during manufacturing, for both brand name and generic drugs. When a drug, generic or brand name, is mass-produced, very small variations in purity, size, strength, and other parameters are permitted. FDA limits how much variability is acceptable. Generic drugs are required to have the same active ingredient, strength, dosage form, and route of administration as the brand name product. Generic drugs do not need to contain the same inactive ingredients as the brand name product. The generic drug manufacturer must prove its drug is the same as (bioequivalent) the brand name drug. For example, after the patient takes the generic drug, the amount of drug in the bloodstream is measured. If the levels of the drug in the bloodstream are the same as the levels found when the brand name product is used, the generic drug will work the same. Through review of bioequivalence data, FDA ensures that the generic product performs the same as its respective brand name product. This standard applies to all generic drugs, whether immediate or controlled release. All generic health Pharmacology manufacturing, packaging, and testing sites must pass the same quality standards as those of brand name drugs, and the generic products must meet the same exacting specifications as any brand name product. In fact, many generic drugs are made in the same manufacturing plants as brand name drug products. When it comes to choosing between generic or name brand, many of us are confused. If you buy the cheaper product, are you still getting everything you need? Taking a look at medications, with so many options available on the shelves to choose from, does it matter so much which company makes it?

What is a brand, personal brand, name brand, generic brand? A brand is all the things that sets a business or individual apart from its competitors. A brand could include the name, customer service, design, logo, features, products, services, character, believes, of a business. Brands are not just for businesses, individuals can also build what is called a "personal brand." A personal brand usually represents what you are known for, the type of audience you have, what you believe, the niche or community that you serve, the type of content you create, the products you promote, and any thing else that is publicly and privately associated with you and your name. What is Name Brands? When it comes to businesses, you might hear things such as name brands or designer brands vs generic store brands. This simply means that the name brand is a brand known for a certain type of product or certain quality of products. For example, Tesla brand is known for electric cars not just your everyday car. Contigo brand is known for high quality metal water bottles, not just your generic water bottle. We reveal 5 products that you should NOT dropship… if you don’t want to lose money! ►► Free $10,000/Month ebook: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step ►► The Dropship Club (Step-By-Step Training): https://thedropshipclub.com 10 Things to Do BEFORE Dropshipping: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPKvNTly7Pg How to Not Get Sued When Dropshipping: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtEkAyKapds (SPOILER ALERT: Below we reveal why you shouldn’t be dropshipping these items… so if you want to play along and see what score you get, don’t read this!) Why You Shouldn’t Dropship Product #1: Because It Has Very Few Reviews The first Aliexpress product revealed in this video to avoid is very risky. It is tempting because it is making a lot of sales - indicating that there is demand for it. But with very few historical reviews, you don’t have enough information to know if a supplier will be good at fulfilling orders (especially if you start selling a lot). Will the quality of the items go down as the production goes up? Is the supplier good at shipping this item out on time? How many people truly like the item that they receive? A small number of reviews isn’t enough to make an assessment on this. It can be very tempting to sell items that have very few reviews - especially if it’s in a hot niche that lacks products. But I strongly recommend avoiding them because you’re risking getting refunds, disputes and chargebacks if the supplier can’t follow-through. Why You Shouldn’t Dropship Product #2: Because it Contains Trademarks This Star Wars mug is illegally using the Star Wars logo - a trademark they don’t have permission to reuse. Dropshipping this is very bad for two reasons: 1) The product will get removed from Aliexpress because it is illegal. It is only short-term money. 2) It’s illegal to sell it, and you are risking getting into trouble with the law by dropshipping it. Why You Should Dropship Product #3: Because it’s VERY Boring & Generic A lot of people ask us the same question: why would a customer purchase an item from your store at a markup, when they can go to Aliexpress or Amazon.com and buy it from there instead for cheaper? Won’t the potential customer price-check your item? The answer to this is that they won’t… if you focus on getting the customer to IMPULSE BUY and on creating SCARCITY. To get a customer to want to impulse buy, you need to make them have an emotional reaction to the item that they are seeing. They need to look at it and really, really want it. That is why the guitar mug that we featured in this video sells so well - because it’s the perfect item for someone the both plays guitar and loves hot drinks. Scarcity is also very important. This is when you make the customer feel that they have a limited amount of time to take an action. A good way to create scarcity when dropshipping is to run limited-time-offers, e.g. you’ll sell the next 20 products at a 60% discount. This makes the customer take action and purchase it so they don’t miss out on the 60% discount. And, because they think they are already getting a good deal, they don’t bother to price-check the item against Aliexpress/Amazon.com. But with generic/boring products, it’s very difficult to make them impulse buy because the item is not very exciting and doesn’t appeal directly to something they love. In addition, it’s very hard to create scarcity because they can buy generic/boring products from anywhere cheaply. So stick to selling unique, original, special items. Why You Shouldn’t Dropship Product #4: Because It Doesn’t Have ePacket Shipping Make sure you ship items that have 2-3 week delivery options (like ePacket) so that customers get their items faster. This will make customer support a lot easier and you’ll get less emails from unhappy customers asking where their item is. Why You Shouldn’t Dropship Product #5: It Has TERRIBLE Photos Good photos showcase what is unique and special about an item. This item (electric bottle opener) does not do this at all. The unique element to this item is that you can watch the cork go up the bottle opener. However, the pictures do not show this at all. Instead, they are just photos of the actual product itself, which looks boring. As a new dropshipper, you will want to take advantage of free stock photos that your supplier provides, which means that you need to focus on dropshipping (and testing) products that have great photos as they are the most important part of the ad and product listing. How many points did you score? Let us know in the comments section below!

India produces over 30% of the world's entire supply of generic drugs. Cipla is one of India's largest drug manufacturers. It supplies antiretroviral drugs to about one third of AIDS patients under treatment in Africa. C&EN Senior Correspondent Jean-François Tremblay went inside Cipla's advanced pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing plant to learn more about the stringent regulations it must follow. India's future as the world's drugstore is a controversial topic. Other drugmakers have been heavily fined, or had products recalled or banned, because of problems at plants. And India is under pressure to make its patent system more like those in western nations. But India has found a market for low-cost drugs and that market isn't about to disappear. An emulation of all those terribly generic product videos for instruments & music equipment we see nowadays that we don't want to be seeing & seem to hate so much yet always end up watching anyway! Alternate title: "How to be a terrible DJ yet still make loads of money doing it because you look like you are actually doing something on stage and, dude--ANALOGUE!" (One could seriously DJ live with just the Tascam 424--looks more lively than sitting behind a laptop screen). Korg electribe 2 demo sounds are played through the Tascam 424 and EQ is handled / mangled live. That's pretty much it. No outside FX or anything. An incredible machine & I only know how to use about 22% of its functions. Just a fun romp through Tascam 424 land. #timetimetime &#silliness
