Look-in Magazine 80's Nostalgia Fest | Ashens

01:17:22
It's the Ashens Summertime Special featuring Mr. Paul Gannon - check out the Cheap Show podcast for more: https://www.thecheapshow.co.uk Look-in magazine! The junior TV listings mag that was actually more about comic strips and behind-the-scenes shenanigans. It's a time capsule of a particular slice of UK kid's culture of the time, which means we can sit about and get all misty-eyed talking about it for an hour before coming to the inevitable conclusion that it was mostly bobbins. Featuring Five Star! And lots of Tiffany! and Bobby Davro! and Cannon & Ball! and Nino from Splash, who I have no memory of whatsoever!

You and Your Friends 1946 Look Magazine; Cowles Social Guidance Film

07:52
Psychology & Social Guidance Films playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_hX5wLdhf_KKDUI3dzMqPn1uZRXt_8dp more at http://quickfound.net '"Here we are at a nice, friendly party. Watch carefully everything the people at this party do and say, then ask yourself, 'would I rate them plus or minus as friends?' Ready? Here we go!" Unusual for its quality and Hollywood-type production values, which can in part be attributed to the skill of cinematographer Don Malkames, this film is also notable as an early "interactive" film. Like the other Art of Living titles and like many films that were to follow in its path, including Centron's Discussion Problems in Group Living series, this film pauses momentarily at key points and poses questions to the audience. You and Your Friends follows a do's and don'ts, "Goofus and Gallant," right path/wrong path strategy — but with one big difference from other films — here no one is judged right or wrong. "None of these youngsters will do the right thing or the wrong every time. It'll be up to you to decide." However, it would take a pretty dumb kid to miss the point. Such a strategy is common to many films designed to influence and/or control behavior. It tends to downplay the seriousness of the conditioning by pretending to present a variety of views, and coasts on the entertainment value and release provided by showing obviously poor behavior. This is also a familiar strategy going back centuries, in this culture probably influenced by the Bible; it's easily understood. Nonetheless, its efficacy can always be questioned; I suspect most readers of Highlights for Children over the years have been fascinated by the transgressive Goofus rather than the tediously boring Gallant. And when antique educational films are publicly revived today, audiences universally identify with the bad child. Within the history of educational media, You and Your Friends comes off as quite modern. Like today's discussion-oriented "values clarification" videos, the movie takes place completely within an adolescent world. Both good and bad behavior is shown, and audiences are asked to discuss it. Kids are shown at a party running the show without adult supervision. Although adult authority is represented by the movie's narrator and the title cards, no one really lays out exactly what to think, unlike so many other social guidance films of the time obsessed with listing a "few simple rules." The focus on self-directed behavior rather than following rules handed down from higher authority is a key indicator of the formation of an autonomous youth culture (for more on this, see the Shy Guy program notes). This early social guidance film was part of the Art of Living series sponsored by Look magazine and distributed by Association Films, the motion-picture distribution arm of the YMCA/YWCA. Association Films was itself an offshoot of Association Press, who published numerous books relating to adolescent guidance, including Evelyn M. Duvall's influential guide Facts of Life and Love (1950). Other Art of Living titles included You and Your Attitudes (1948) and You and Your Family (1946). Three young 1950s couples dancing in living room of house; tracking shot of young couple walking into dining room; young man wearing 1940s to 1950s style suit badmouths a boy named Eddy, couple grabs food from table and open bottles of soda, young woman defends Eddy who the young man badmouths then walks out, text superimposed on shot "Is loyalty one test of friendship?"...' Reupload of a previously uploaded film with improved video & sound. Originally a public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Look_(American_magazine) Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ Look was a bi-weekly, general-interest magazine published in Des Moines, Iowa, from 1937 to 1971, with more of an emphasis on photographs than articles. 17:45
Easy life hacks to speed up your beauty routine and make you look perfect every day 1. Insane hacks for your smile Here are some alternative ways to clean your teeth. These natural homemade recipes work magic and won't cost much. - Strawberry is a great berry that is not only delicious, but will help you to whiten your teeth. Mix one strawberry with some toothpaste to get white teeth and fresh breath. - Don't like strawberries? Mix some fresh lemon juice with a teaspoon soda. You'll see whitening effect in just a month! - For the third recipe you'll need some activated carbon and mix it with water. This black mixture will save your teeth and whiten them. - Mix kiwi and cucumber together. Brush your teeth with this mixture for seven days and enjoy the results! - One last budget teeth hack for you - use some banana peel. And don't forget to use a chewing gum after your meal! 2. How to make your hair smooth and shiny If you want to get the perfect hair, comb your hair before washing. Have shower with the temperature of the water 40-50c. Don't apply shampoo directly to your hair. Instead, pour a little on your palm and make a lather. Then massage it into your scalp, spread along the length of your hair and rinse with cold water. Apply hair balsam along your hair's length and wash it off after 5-7 minutes. Finally, take a cold shower. 3. Care for your hair after washing Pat them dry with a towel. Don't rub, don't twist, don't wring out not to damage your hair! Allow it to dry a little and apply few drops of hair oil or thermal protection to your tips. Brush it with a coarse-toothed comb. If you want, you may dry it with a hair dryer, but remember to use cold air and dry it from the roots to the tips. Always finish drying with cold air. Psychology & Social Guidance Films playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_hX5wLdhf_KKDUI3dzMqPn1uZRXt_8dp more at http://quickfound.net 'When Mary's family refuses to let her go out on a date, what should she do? What happens when family members shirk their chores? How can Bill and his father agree on what time Bill should get home at night? These scenes are shown dramatically, then summarized, and each spectator is invited to join in the discussion. Great footage of typical 1940s to 1950s family in various typical family situations acting out three to four different possible outcomes to those situations. Girl is asked out on date but parents say she can’t go. Mother asks for help with dishes at dinner table and family makes excuses. Teenage son comes home late and wakes up father knocking over table with phone, and Father says he can’t go out for a week. ...old-fashioned phone of 1940s with rotary dial; phone rings, camera pans out and 1940s teenage girl answers phone. VS teenage girl on phone “Yes this is Marry. Oh hello Frank! What? You do! Well just a minute I better ask”; girl asks parents if she can go to dance out on lake with boy. Mother denies girl and Father confirms. Narrator asks “What should she do next?” Marry tells boy on phone she can’t go and sulks. Scene is repeated where girls asks parents if she can go but this time seeks a compromise to have him over after parents have said no; parents accept offer. Scene is reenacted again with girl asking parents this time she overreacts “I just knew it, no one in this family wants me to have any fun at all. I wish I were dead!” Fourth reenactment girl is denied however, she goes and whispers into phone that she will sneak out. ...family around dinner table. Mother asks for help with dishes. Daughter excuses herself by saying she has too much homework. Father says he has to read the paper. Oldest son says friends are waiting on him. Youngest son decides to help. ...wood pendulum driven grandfather clock which reads 12:45. ...teenage boy comes home late at night and trips over stool with phone on it and falls onto the staircase. Father wakes up and asks boy why he is home so late “What kept you son?” Four takes show boy give four different reactions by boy to father’s question. First, answer boy makes an excuse about friend getting hurt and Father says “Are you sure you’re telling the truth Bill?” Bill answers “Of course I am telling the truth. The trouble with this family is nobody ever believes me!” Second take Bill answers father’s question “Where were you Bill” “It’s none of your business, I’m not a kid anymore. I’m old enough to take care of myself. And beginning now that is just what I am going to do. And I’d like to see you or anyone else try and stop me”. Third take teenage boy apologizes and accepts punishment.' Norman Rockwell Documentary

01:27:13
Norman Perceval Rockwell (February 3, 1894 – November 8, 1978) was a 20th-century American author, painter and illustrator. His works enjoy a broad popular appeal in the United States for its reflection of American culture. Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine over nearly five decades.[1] Among the best-known of Rockwell's works are the Willie Gillis series, Rosie the Riveter, The Problem We All Live With, Saying Grace, and the Four Freedoms series. He also is noted for his 64-year relationship with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), during which he produced covers for their publication Boys' Life, calendars, and other illustrations. These works include popular images that reflect the Scout Oath and Scout Law such as The Scoutmaster, A Scout is Reverent[2] and A Guiding Hand,[3] among many others. Norman Rockwell was a prolific artist, producing more than 4,000 original works in his lifetime. Most of his works are either in public collections, or have been destroyed in fire or other misfortunes. Rockwell also was commissioned to illustrate more than 40 books, including Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn as well as painting the portraits for Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon, as well as those of foreign figures, including Gamal Abdel Nasser and Jawaharlal Nehru. His portrait subjects included Judy Garland. One of his last portraits was of Colonel Sanders in 1973. His annual contributions for the Boy Scouts calendars between 1925 and 1976 (Rockwell was a 1939 recipient of the Silver Buffalo Award, the highest adult award given by the Boy Scouts of America[4]), were only slightly overshadowed by his most popular of calendar works: the "Four Seasons" illustrations for Brown & Bigelow that were published for 17 years beginning in 1947 and reproduced in various styles and sizes since 1964. He painted six images for Coca-Cola advertising.[5] Illustrations for booklets, catalogs, posters (particularly movie promotions), sheet music, stamps, playing cards, and murals (including "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and "God Bless the Hills", which was completed in 1936 for the Nassau Inn in Princeton, New Jersey) rounded out Rockwell's œuvre as an illustrator. Rockwell's work was dismissed by serious art critics in his lifetime.[6] Many of his works appear overly sweet in the opinion of modern critics,[7] especially the Saturday Evening Post covers, which tend toward idealistic or sentimentalized portrayals of American life. This has led to the often-deprecatory adjective, "Rockwellesque". Consequently, Rockwell is not considered a "serious painter" by some contemporary artists, who regard his work as bourgeois and kitsch. Writer Vladimir Nabokov sneered that Rockwell's brilliant technique was put to "banal" use, and wrote in his book Pnin: "That Dalí is really Norman Rockwell's twin brother kidnapped by Gypsies in babyhood". He is called an "illustrator" instead of an artist by some critics, a designation he did not mind, as that was what he called himself.[8] In his later years, however, Rockwell began receiving more attention as a painter when he chose more serious subjects such as the series on racism for Look magazine.[9] One example of this more serious work is The Problem We All Live With, which dealt with the issue of school racial integration. The painting depicts a young black girl, Ruby Bridges, flanked by white federal marshals, walking to school past a wall defaced by racist graffiti.[10] This painting was displayed in the White House when Bridges met with President Obama in 201

The OFFICE and Look Magazine Model Search 2009 in association with Union Models

08:26
What do you get when a cool footwear retailer, a number one fashion weekly and one of the UKs leading modeling agencies join forces? A not-to-be missed modeling competition to find the face of OFFICE for 2009! Stepping out at the Paramount Bar on the 31st Floor, the venue for the Office and Look Magazine Model Search showdown, the skyline views over London complimented the stunning finalists and the sky-scraping heels scattered around the windowsills. Whittled down from over 4000 entrants, finalists from castings all around the country now had to strut their stuff to impress the panel of judges. It was truly a battle of the best, helped along by an entourage that would rival J Lo model coach James Jeanette helping to perfect the supermodel swagger, hair stylists from Toni & Guy on hand to style and spray hair into place and make-up artists from 'Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful' to create defined cheekbones. Mojitos sipped, models scrutinised and goodie bags grabbed, the winner, Sharam Sharam, was finally announced. It took three friends and two scouts to get her to even enter the competition, but first down the catwalk with such a great smile and flawless skin, she lead from the start.

Outlook magazine also carried an illustration showing Smita Sabharwal walking the ramp at a fashion show with her political bosses leering at her. Ms Sabharwal, who works in the office of the chief minister of southern Telangana state, told BBC Hindi the remark was "sexist" and "demoralising". The magazine told the BBC they were yet to receive any legal notice from her. "She makes a fashion statement with her lovely saris and serves as 'eye candy' at meetings," the magazine had reported in a recent post, without naming her. It added that her portfolio "is a mystery" and what "she exactly does is a puzzle". Ms Sabharwal, 38, said the illustration was about her attendance at a recent fashion show in the Indian city of Hyderabad. "What disturbs me the most is the suggestion that a woman is able to rise in her career because of her beauty. It is very demoralising for the thousands of women stepping out of their homes and making their career," Ms Sabharwal told BBC Hindi's Divya Arya. Describing the magazine's "outright sexist attitude" as "hurtful", she said she wanted Outlook to apologise. "In all my 14 years of working as a civil servant, I have never been discriminated [against] or made to feel any lesser because I am a woman or good-looking. It is only now, when I have become the first woman to be appointed to a chief minister's office that I am getting this. "I have broken a glass ceiling, and clearly some people are not happy with it," she added. "My work is being undermined by some jealous elements and the lazy irresponsible attitude of the magazine. "I found that this magazine has ignored my professional track record and tries to insinuate total blatant lies and I cannot let them get away with this kind of rubbish journalism. At the same time, apart from hurting my professional pride, I also felt they insulted women in general across India, across the world and they have to be brought to book for this." Ms Sabharwal has found some support on social media, with many criticising the magazine:

The first 100 people to click this link will get a 2 month free trial of Skillshare: http://skl.sh/CinemaTyler I’ve often wondered, why is it that Stanley Kubrick’s visual style seems to stand out as one of cinema’s most interesting eyes for storytelling? Kubrick’s unique style was formed in his photography. Today we are going to take a journey around New York City where much of Kubrick’s photographic work for Look Magazine was captured to see if we can recreate some of his photos. We’ll take a look at some of his photographic techniques that would later help him as a filmmaker and we'll look at his influences and hear his thoughts on photography in order to better understand how Kubrick became one of the most visual filmmakers in cinema history. 50 Amazing Vintage Photographs That Capture Life of America's Farming Communities During the Great D

09:04
Born in New York City in 1915, Arthur Rothstein showed an early interest in photography. While studying at Columbia University, he met economics instructor Roy Stryker, who would later establish the photographic section of the Resettlement Administration (later the Farm Security Administration) in Washington, DC. Appreciating Rothstein's technical proficiency and enthusiasm for photography, Stryker hired him in 1935 as the first staff photographer for the FSA. Rothstein spent the next five years creating some of the most iconic images of rural and small-town America during the Great Depression (1935-1940). After leaving the FSA in 1940, Rothstein took a position as photographer for Look magazine; he remained there until 1971, ultimately serving as the magazine's director of photography.

Did Emmett Till have a white 'girlfriend' Yes, and she's been found Video By : Any Articles

02:44
When he visited Mississippi, Emmett Till showed a photo of his white classmates in Chicago and pointed to the white girl, joking that that was his "girlfriend." Sixty-three years later, that girl, Joan Brody, is telling her story publicly for the first time. Wochit CHICAGO – For more than six decades, a mystery has swirled around the Emmett Till case, a mystery involving the photograph of a white girl. Till, 14, who was black, was abducted Aug. 28, 1955, and murdered after supposedly whistling at a white woman, Carolyn Bryant, in a grocery store in Money, Mississippi. J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant were acquitted in his murder but later confessed in a now-infamous 1956 Look magazine story by journalist William Bradford Huie. Although the exchange between Till and Carolyn Bryant, Roy Bryant's wife, was the basis of the case against Milam and Roy Bryant, Huie's story offers an additional reason for Till's death. Till's murderers “killed him because he boasted of having a white girl and showed them the picture of a white girl in Chicago,” Huie told filmmakers for the 1987 documentary "Eyes on the Prize." The years have passed, and the long-lost photograph has remained an enigma. Who was this girl? Did she even exist? Now, 63 years later, the answer is yes, and her name is Joan Brody. Brody gave her first interview about Till to a Clarion-Ledger reporter and others at her condo in the northern suburbs of Chicago. In "Eyes on the Prize," Till’s cousin Curtis Jones mentioned that Till had a “picture of some white kids that he had graduated from (elementary school with) … female and male.” Any Articles -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Federal judge blocks Trump's new asylum rules, opens door for migrant caravan" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VC086tTkrw -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

SKS magazine (detachable to fixed).wmv

07:04
I have a SKS that I have owned for about 20 years now and thought I would make it Komifornia compliant since its here with me now. I ordered a tapco 10round/20round look magazine and made it into a fixed mag from the detachable mag I bought. I wanted a dark earth mag to go with the dark earth stock I purchased and the supplier I bought the mag from only had the black mag ~ found that out after I confirmed my on line order and received the email. I think you could find black fixed mags easier than the dark earth mag I was looking for. Since I couldn't find the DE fixed I ordered the detachable with the idea I would just make it fixed to comply with the law. It works perfect and I am happy with the results. I hope I am able to help somebody that needs to get their gun compliant and can't find the premade parts to get it done. The mag can be removed from the gun when it is taken apart and the pin can be removed from the mag, so at that time the fixed mag will become a detachable mag again.

What New Evidence Spurred the Reopening of Emmett Till Case?

04:26
The horrific murder of young Emmett Till in 1955 is widely considered the spark that ignited the Civil Rights movement. The 14-year-old black boy from Chicago was in Mississippi visiting family when two white men kidnapped, tortured and dumped in the Tallahatchie River. The Department of Justice is reopening the investigation after the woman at the center of the case, Carolyn Bryant Donham, admitted she gave false testimony. Matter of Fact takes an inside look at what happened and speaks with a witness to the kidnapping who says he was never interviewed by authorities.

An Overlooked Witness to Emmett Till’s Kidnapping

05:04
The horrific murder of young Emmett Till in 1955 spurred national outrage. The 14-year-old black boy from Chicago was in Mississippi visiting family when two white men kidnapped, brutally beat and left him to drown in the Tallahatchie River. His mother, Mamie Till, made sure the world saw what had happened to her son, opening his sealed casket to show his mutilated face. Thousands came to pay their respects to Till, launching a rejuvenated movement against lynching and further propelling civil rights activists. Roy Bryant and JW Milam, were acquitted of the crime and later sold their confession to Look magazine. Matter of Fact takes an inside look at what happened over 60 years ago and speaks with a witness to the kidnapping who says he was never interviewed by authorities.

MOre Beautiful You Lyrics :) Little girl fourteen flipping through a magazine Says she wants to look that way But her hair isn't straight, her body isn't fake And she's always felt overweight Well, little girl fourteen I wish that you could see That beauty is within your heart And you were made with such care, your skin, your body and your hair Are perfect just the way they are There could never be a more beautiful you Don't buy the lies, disguises and hoops, they make you jump through You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do So there could never be a more beautiful you Little girl twenty one the things that you've already done Anything to get ahead And you say you've got a man but He's got another plan Only wants what you will do instead Well, little girl twenty one you never thought that this would come You starve yourself to play the part But I can promise you there's a man whose love is true And He'll treat you like the jewel you are There could never be a more beautiful you Don't buy the lies, disguises and hoops, they make you jump through You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do So there could never be a more beautiful you, more beautiful you So turn around you're not too far To back away be who you are To change your path go another way It's not too late, you can be saved If you feel depressed with past regrets The shameful nights hope to forget Can disappear, they can all be washed away By the one who's strong, can right your wrongs Can rid your fears dry, all your tears And change the way you look at this big world He will take your dark distorted view And with His light, He will show you truth And again you'll see through the eyes of a little girl That there could never be a more beautiful you Don't buy the lies, disguises and hoops, they make you jump through You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do So there could never be a more beautiful you There could never be a more beautiful you

BERT STERN: ORIGINAL MAD MAN

02:16
In the unconventional documentary the original mad-man photographer reveals himself for the first time. Berts meteoric career began as a mailroom-boy at Look Magazine, where he formed a close relationship with a young staff photographer, Stanley Kubrick. The launch of Sterns career and the Golden Age of Advertising would coincide; with Sterns Driest of the Dry campaign for Smirnoff. This ad would end up selling more vodka than Smirnoff dreamed, making America for the first time a vodka drinking country, and Stern a very successful photographer at the age of 25. Sought after by Madison Avenue, Hollywood, and the international fashion scene, Bert was at the heart of what George Lois would call the creative evolution. Along with Irving Penn and Richard Avedon, Stern minted the concept photographer as a star in his own right. Photographing what seemed like all of worlds most beautiful women like Jean Shrimpton, Suzie Parker, Audrey Hepburn, Bridget Bardot, Twiggy, Liz Taylor, and Marilyn Monroe, the kid from Brooklyn was living a dream. Marrying the beautiful and internationally acclaimed ballet dancer, Allegra Kent, a Balanchine protégé, it seemed Bert Stern could do no wrong. Stern pulls no punches in revealing himself, his loves, and his fall from grace. Filmmaker Shannah Laumeister uncovers not only Stern, but also their unique long-term relationship. Becoming Bert Stern is a story of self-creation: rise, fall and reinvention. It explores creativity, celebrity, and desire through the eyes of a man who got everything he wanted. Almost.
